Kiffykins: The gift that keeps giving
From the good folks over at Third Saturday in Blogtober, it appears that UT's boy is in trouble again, for another recruiting infraction.
The reaction is pretty funny:
Kiffin has an obligation to know the rules, and he even bragged to Spurrier about only missing one question on his recruiting test. (&$@!!!) Then he comes out and accuses Urban Meyer of a mythical recruiting violation while breaking the SEC code of ethics in the process, gets two secondary violations for kids on campus, and now this? I mean, I’ve been behind Lane from the beginning, but he’s really making it hard to defend him.
Ghost and I agree that we want him to just be quiet and coach football. PLEASE QUIT TALKING, CLK. Even then, is that enough? Is the guy just going to pop off and say something stupid when the season starts? He can’t exactly just keep his mouth shut forever, so I don’t know that this is a problem that will go away...So, Coach Kiffin, get your act together and get a clue. We’ve put our faith in you, and you need to start showing us that you deserve it.

BTW:
For those of you that don’t frequent it, 3SIB has some very good, serious football content and humor. Oskie and Ghost (of Neyland) are …well, if not good folks, at least you don’t want to hit ’em with a brick…too much.

Just this morning
I read the paper and told my husband how boring the paper is with no football and no color-comics during the week and that I wished Kiffin would hurry up and open up his big ole mouth again. Ta-dahhh!! Wish I had wished to win the lottery, though….

It's just simple...
… regardless of whether or not he has passed the NCAA test, the guy has either never read the rule book, or frankly just doesn’t care about any of them.

Its
funny because USA coach Joey Jones, who had never been a head coach before, has his own radio show here in Mobile and frequently gets asked about certain recruits for which he always replies “I can’t talk specifically about any recruits.” Point is, even someone as new as Jones knows these very simple rules and it appears Kiffin is the only one who doesn’t.

Actually,
I think he was the head coach at Bham Southern? Anyway, point made: Kiffin=Dufus

I
didn’t even know they had a football team.

ut fan reaction..
Kiffin’s blunders may be wearing thin on some, but he seems to be a reflection of ut’s fans- a lot of them aren’t aware of this particular rule that I thought most college football fans consider ‘common knowledge’. And some have started referring to Kiffin as a ‘kid’, apparently rationalizing these gaffes as simple immaturity.
And if Brown signs with ut, he’ll (Kiffin) be hailed as a genius, because the minor violation that they’re probably not going to be punished for will be well worth him signing with them. We shall see…
Brown's NOT going to be in the SEC...
I think with Charles Scott, he’s not going to sign with LSU (although, they are considered the frontrunner). He’s a bad fit with UF, and I think Kiffin’s mouth just ran him out of K’ville. With Belotti and Carroll sniffing around, I fully expect him to go to the PAC 10 (prolly Oregon to get on the field immediately, or, because the kid digs the media, to USC to play White to McKnight’s Bush).

I had drinks with friends last night
Old USC friends, one of which has close ties with Pete Carroll’s staff. He elucidated to me how “manipulative” and “conniving” Lame is. (get this: he said, with a straight face, “But it’s a GOOD quality, I’m not bagging on the guy.”) It was a weird topic to discuss, because I personally don’t like Lane. He acts “Hollywoood” (his persona) and, call me crazy- but I don’t respect ANYONE who curries friendships by denigrating others. That’s punk BS.
Certain things kinda “coalesced” for me last night.
A. Lane got to his OC position from being manipulative and conniving. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a helluva coach. Not consistent whatsoever though. I hated to see Coach Chow pushed out the door, and didn’t warm up to Sark or Kiff – still harbor negative feelings for the both of ‘em.
B. Lane’s a rich-boy punk, top to bottom. But, he’ll fight tooth and nail for his players and team. That, I can vouch for.
C. No wonder people hate people from L.A.? These “friends of mine” (who don’t know shit about CFB in the first place. Trojan football? Yes. CFB? Hell no) actually revel in what Lame is doing at UT. Said it was no different to what he’d done to Chow. And said they would bet big money on Lane coming out on top! That he’d beat at least ONE of the famed stable of SEC coaches- but get embarrassed just ONCE too. That he’ll beat Nick Saban if not this year, than next (I was holding back so hard at this point! I wanted to thump this crazy man), and that he’ll soon win the SEC recruiting wars????
Dumbfounded and flabbergasted. Me. Where to start? The short of the long of it: he could be right, he could be totally wrong. But seriously, why bother trying to be rational with a crazy man that’s drunk. 2-strikes already on the sorry m-fer. I pretended that I didn’t hear one insane word from the firestarter.
Just thought I’d relay some of what I heard. So I ask you fine people: Could Lane Kiffin be such rogue, nay- a knave that this whole “violations” crap and accusative mishaps are by design? To put UT on the front pages of SEC football? As in “bad publicity is still publicity”?
2 things I learned last night:
1. Lane Kiffin might be smarter than I give him credit for (at least I’m “open” to that suggestion)
2. I HATE people from LA.

I think...
…Kitten likes the bad publicity, but I don’t believe it’s all by design. Too much more bad publicity, and he may not get the chance to get his butt kicked this fall.

The only ways that Kiffykins is "smart"
include:
1. Ginning up excitement around a moribund, stagnant program. I still think that polarizing the fanbase, pissing off the big boys, getting on the NCAA’s radar, turning off recruits, etc this early is not conducive to a long-term stint. Think Franchione.
2.Second, he’s smart enough to beg the administration for money to hire actually proven, talented coaches. Because he is absolutely unproven, and what he has proven (on his merits) is a catastrophe.
And, yes, people from LA are douchy.

Can't believe you didn't say a word...
…offering tacit agreement to what the jerk was saying. What a disappointment.

You're harsh, and disappointing!
Listen bamavicki, you don’t know what else was said- stuff that I purposely left out, so lemme just tell you this. We were 5 couples eating at a 5-star (fine dining) restaurant- although at the time we were having drinks in the lounge area waiting for our other guests to arrive. The idiot in question is just recently engaged to my ex-girlfriend (we were all celebrating V-tines Day) and when he was reminded of my love for the Tide (by my ex-g/friend), that I was nuts for ’em, and a black-belt who enjoys fighting (for free)- he shut his trap.
I didn’t have to validate his drivel with intelligence, or worse- kick his ass if he didn’t see things my way. (that’s the way it usually goes when I GET A LITTLE FIRE WATER IN ME)
We enjoyed our V-Day celebrating specifically BECAUSE I took the high road and he was reminded of what it means to mess with a guy like me. NOT FOR ANY PHANTOM TACIT AGREEMENTS????

Well then maybe you should have been more clear...
I believe you said:
I pretended that I didn’t hear one insane word from the firestarter.
From one who is the epitome of verbose, that is surprising at the least. The high road cause the guy was scared of you? WOW.

There's a BIG difference
Between being verbose and having manners. Afterall, it’s just football.
Well then, maybe you should be less presumptuous? WOW (not likely)

I
think Kiffin is a prima dona punk-azz douche, and revels in the fact that everybody is talking about him. Its kinda like the slut chicks in high school, even though what people say is negative, they still love it because its attention. I think Kiffin is like that… a publicity slut.

Lame Kiffin
Will do himself in. He may not make it to the spring game if he continues on his present course. Getting publicity and painting a target on yourself are two entirely different things. Having now accussed Coach Saban of recruiting violations makes him a marked man. You may call him “Dead man Walking …… and talking”. He is following in the steps of his mentor, Pete Carroll, in his brushes with the rules and only time will tell how much the NCAA will put up with before they drop a rock on his head to get his attention.
When you're a front runner, you don't have to look at no ugly behinds.
