Moving back to the Capstone
Not that anyone cares, but I was recently offered a job at UA. Of course I accepted the offer and now I am stoked to be moving back to Tuscaloosa. The university obviously means a lot to everyone at RBR and I cannot express how happy I am to have the opportunity to contribute at a place that means so much to me.
Any Tuscaloosa residents with some info on area schools would be much appreciated. I have a sense that Northport has better schools, but honestly I have no clue and as with any parent this is an important issue.

I went to old Central (east and west)
Now Bryant High. Central-East was a nice, reasonably challenging school…Central-West was a ****-hole. Hillcrest has some nice public schools; I have friends with kids out that way, and they rave about them. Avoid Holt and Tusc. Co. (unless they have both gotten appreciably better).
NB: These are public schools only. Obviously, the privates are decent (TA, esp, is quite good, if that’s your bag).

Schools
If you’re going the public school route, Hillcrest (county school – south of town) is probably the way to go.
For private, I would go the Tuscaloosa Christian or American Christian route (TA if you’re going to be an assistant coach at UA or your wife is a doctor and you want to mingle with the affluent).
My kids go to Tuscaloosa Christian (small student/teacher ratio, outstanding academics and character development).

Thanks for the advice
This actually does help a lot. I am a product of public schools, but I have become more and more interested in private schools for my kids.
To answer The Other Dave, I am an Assistant Professor.

I'm afraid to say
bc I don’t want a UA student that frequents RBR to blackmail me.
