Question for those smarter than me...
We just landed an amazing recruiting class, possibly and probably better than last years. My only concern is that we just had 27, or so, guys sign LOI to play ball with Bama this coming up season, and we only have 11 sho' nuff spots open. I know there will be acedemic casualites and such, but there's gonna have to be some major shifting and moving in order to get this square peg to fit in that circle. If someone has a somewhat laid out plan for how this may work, please let me know, because it's kinda concerning at this point. I mean, we were worried about oversigning by 8 spots last year, and now we've got double that...

Don't worry
be happy. I can promise Saban has a plan. In fact I think we may have actually “let” a few go today (such as Patterson and Teague) to bring these guys in under the 85 limit. By the way- Grant is out of here now.
Now Ole Miss- that is one problem waiting to happen.
Who is 3rd?
Roy seemed to be playing his way into 2nd string status this past season prior to his injury. When he’s healthy, he’s a valuable weapon. Of course, he’s had chronic injury issues, so he may not be back at all.

It will
work out in the end.
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
maybe
but its not our job to run him off
besides trent has a way to go to pass terry on the freshman rush list
THis has been my question all week
ITs going to be interesting to see how it all works out. Just expect to get some hatters over here crying shannanigans..
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
CNS
will work it out, just like last year. He will sift through the players that he inherited and make some changes there. Soon enough he will have “his” players in place and then things will really ROLL.
When your a front runner, you don't have to look at no ugly behinds.
My best guess
Besides the blind faith talk.
Here is sort of a look at the numbers, as I know them:
-As you say we have 11 seniors
-We also have two juniors who left early for the draft (Coffee and Andre) 13 total players leaving the program
-We actually enrolled 23 players out of last year’s class, amazingly enough
-We are thus able to count 2 scholarships towards last years class (Warmack and Carpenter).
-We gave three walk-ons who are on full scholarships this year (King, Fitzgerald, and Tiffin). I have no idea how they work out as all of them will be 5th year seniors. I would assume they would stay on scholarship, but not sure.
-In this year’s recruiting class itself there are at least 3-4 guys who are potential academic casualties (Sentimore, Bowman, Lacey, and Woodson to name a few). Obviously, a few of them will not qualify, unfortunately.
-I think being relatively conservative that leaves us 9 scholarships to come up with by August. We all know there are a few players who sustained injuries and have not seen much playing time this season, a few will unfortunately be given the option of a medical scholarship, I believe we gave out about 5 last year.
-Then of course, we are going to have transfers. Some players who we thought would see more playing time, have seen none. I am not going to really speculate on who that might be, but I am sure we can all think of at least 4-5 players who might be a candidate.
Again, this is just my guess, and this does not even take into account what you might call Black Swans, like a Jimmy Johns incident (knock on wood). Obviously I am hopeful that no one will doing anything stupid this year, but as we have seen too often players can be capable of making mind numbing decisions from time-to-time.
That's pretty much what I'm looking for, thanks Kenny...
however, I was counting the 11 as the 9 seniors plus Coffee and Andre…
It’s just gonna be interesting to see how we can come up with 10+ scholarships before the check book is balanced in August. It’ll happen, and I think Saban has a plan, but I don’t think it will be pretty. COUGHGRANTCOUGH…
I mean, the writing’s on the wall. Our stable consists of… Ingram, Upchurch, Grant, Goode, Matchett, Preyear, and now Lacy, Marrow, Richardson. Someone’s gonna have to get up and out…

forgot about Griffin, too.

Hey I'm
not for running Grant off…but it may be best for him. He didn’t hardly play this year and with TR and Ingram plus we have some new backs that redshirted or grey shirted last year like Matchett and Preyear. Plus, this Jeramie Griffin kid looks pretty good too. And who knows about Upchurch. If he is able ot make a come back he will play.
I just ask you if Terry Grant knew he was going to get 25 carries all year in mop up rolls would he stay? I think not. And it is not like he is going to go to DB or WR— we are loaded there as well. He just seems to be the odd man out.
If
he isn’t going to play we kind of owe it to him to give him the opportunity now to go where he can play.
Thirty-Six to Nothing
Agree- exactly my point
The kid is a good back but he just doesn’t fit anymore and he could actually have a future somewhere else. He has 2 years left and at the right place he might even develop into a change of pace NFL back one day.
Give me a break guys. You all now have Grant behind players who were on the scout team last year. If you actually believe he has a future as an NFL change of pace back then we have to find a way to get him the ball.
Personally I wasnt as impressed with Ingram toward the end of the year. Grant may leave, I just think that he and the coaches will make that decision. Most folks were writing off Upchurch last year.
Well
if some of these backs don’t transfer they are going to have very few carries even in a 3 back system. Remember TR ran for over 400 in high school twice. I don’t think he is going to need as much a breather as Coffee. If he becomes THE BACK I look for him to have 20-25 touches a game.
But I’ll agree Ingam may be the guy that sits. He makes some good runs but also makes some 1/2 yard runs that put us in trouble. It seeemd to me that Coffee and even Upchurch were usually good for 2 1/2 or 3 yards even when there was nothing there. Ingram dances at the line too much.
