Deangelo Benton
"I looked at DeAngelo and made some hard, fast decisions with him," Miles said.
It appears what everyone was saying yesterday regarding LSU pulling Benton's scholarship was true. Essentially, Miles let a recruit's father (Reuben Randle's dad) dictate who does and does not get a scholarship. I have never heard of anything this crazy. Not sure what the consequences will be, but it has the potential to be a big story. I cannot remember a player having their scholarship taken away from them that late in the process, especially who has stuck with his commitment.
A little background information for those who do not know about the decision. Reuben Randle's dad called a local Louisiana sports radio show, and was complaining about how the LSU coaches had been untruthful regarding what position Randle and Benton would play. Apparently, Miles talked with Randle's dad, and decided that in order to get Randle into LSU he would have to witdrawl the scholarship offer to Benton. This is definitely the ugly side of recruiting, and possibly one of the strangest stories I have heard.

ha ha ha.
you forgot to mention the part about how les miles spit on him, told him he was a bum and would never amount to anything, and then threw him from a moving car. that mean les miles! how dare he (supposedly) pull a scholarship offer to a guy that hasnt been able to qulaify for the past two years (and is no guarantee to qulaify this year).
Supposedly?
Miles admitted to pulling the offer in the article. It has little to do with pulling an offer, and much more to do about allowing a recruit or his family to dictate who receives, or who does not receive a scholarship.
In the end it may not amount to anything, it will depend on Benton and Randle’s careers. If Benton is never able to gain his eligibily no one will probably remember this. The fact is that it is a dangerous slope. I thnk it is reasonable to wonder what kind of effect this may have in the future. It is not about a particular player going to one school or another.
it was definitely a difficult situation, made even more difficult by the fact that the two players in question are friends from the same high school. is it possible that RR claims of depth chart concerns were for his friend and not himself? if they went to LSU together, it is a possiblity that benton’s dream of playing at LSU would have been taken away by RR. would you like to be the possible source of crushing your friends dreams? i know i wouldnt.
Big Stretch
Rueben Randle said Wednesday he chose LSU on Tuesday night once he found out Benton was Auburn-bound
I am not sure what other conclusions you could infer, but that Randle or Randle’s family, depending on how you wanted to read it, did not want Randle to compete with Benton. Also, I have seen no evidence that the two are friends. Randle was a sophmore when Benton graduated.
it is a possiblity that benton’s dream of playing at LSU would have been taken away by RR
Isn’t that what happened? Benton is not going to LSU because Miles pulled his offer so Randle would go to LSU. Again, there are really no other inferences to draw from this article. It states rather emphatically that Miles pulled the offer to ensure Randle would go to LSU. Time will tell if that was the right decision or not.
in a way
yes. however RR wasnt responsible for benton’s inability to qualify, nor was he responsible for his visit to auburn 2-3 weeks ago.
time will tell on whether any recruit was a “right decision”, but i dont see how this scenario can be painted in a negative light? take a talented recruit who has had difficulty qualifying the past two years? or take a recruit who can qualify immediately? if one’s attending hinges on the other, so be it.
Self Serving Logic Knows No Bounds
My heart bleedeth over!
Why don’t you let Benton determine if he can get playing time at LSU by not withdrawing his scholarship offer and letting him try to earn playing time. Benton obviously wasn’t bothered by RR at LSU given that it was apparent that RR was likely going to LSU throughout the recruiting season, yet Benton kept his commitment until Les took it away from him. It’s very disingenuous to say this was somehow a charitable choice by Les Miles.
no more
disingenuous than oversigning a class and forcing kids out the door. benton is going to an SEC school, can the same be said for the depth chart casualteis that will be pushed into transferring to make way for the past two calsses saban has signed?
There’s no evidence anyone’s been pushed out. If a player is down the depth chart and wishes to transfer then that’s their prerogative, but here we saw Les Miles openly sacrifice one recruit for another after having held out a scholarship offer to him for two years.
That you think this was somehow done with Benton’s best interest in mind is outlandish.
Maybe it's just me
But I’d rather focus on our players rather than players between those two second-rate tiger schools.
I hear you...

If Les
really did let a dad dictate his decisions this will have a far reaching impact. Don’ t think the players won’t figure this out. Once they know Les can be manipulated like that you will see all sorts of junk going down at LSU. Can’t wait to see if RR gets the “intern job” in the gov’s office. Soon the inmates will be running the asylum.
in one way or another
all these recruits, and their families, dictate decisions to the programs. and if he is RR is eligible for and interested in the intern’s position, i hope he gets it. if that is what it took to get him to sign at LSU then i’m all for it.
I think this is huge and a graphic illustration of Miles's
lack of character. If you are a 2010 recruit, you are now on official notice that Les Miles just might pull the rug out from under you at the last minute, depending on what another recruit might prefer.. Sound like someone you want to invest your future with? I hope the quarterbacks take notice that RR had better get the ball a lot, ad infinitum.
I remember clearly that CNS honored every single Shula scholarship, as long as thr player honored it, too. Trust is vitally important. Say what you want to try to sweep this one under the rug. Look for Finebaum to be all over it.

yeah
saban’s word is his bond. if nick saban says it, it is infallable. i can not seem to recall a single incident where nick saban has gone back on his word. not one.
Not on kids he hasn't. Miles is a d-bag.
This isn’t just playing time, or competing. It was a local kid getting the shot at an education and playing time at his local school. If you can’t see the distinction of making statements that try to focus on your present commitment, and shirking said commitment because someone better came along, then I can’t help you (or those around you).
"penis fish"…google that, and the candiru is the first thing that pops up

dont need your help
but thanks!
and the local kid still gets a shot at an education at auburn. and he had his shot the two years prior at LSU, but he couldnt qulaify. (there is no guarantee that he is qulaified now.) if anything pulling his offer while he still has time to commit elsewhere is more honest an act than leading him on in the hopes of signing him.
Idiotic
pulling his offer while he still has time to commit elsewhere is more honest an act than leading him on in the hopes of signing him.
They pulled his offer the day before signing day! Are you kidding me? They gave him time to commit else? We get the fact that LSU can do no wrong, but go tigerdroppings.com if you have nothing better than this!
talk about drinkin kool aid and wearing blinders
miles is jackass, his lack of character has already bled through to the program. it wont be long before LSU has turned in “da U” 2.0…
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...
