Down with Kiffikins and ROT Lance Thompson
Fans who attended Tennessee's recruiting celebration early Thursday morning didn't need coffee. New UT coach Lane Kiffin and his staff provided plenty of stimulation.
Kiffin took shots at defending national champion Florida and Alabama, recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron talked about winning a national championship, and assistant coach Lance Thompson vowed that UT would "own Memphis" in recruiting.
It was that kind of morning. And the sellout crowd of almost 1,000 fans at the Knoxville Convention Center ate it up.
Their loudest applause came when Kiffin called out Florida coach Urban Meyer on an NCAA recruiting violation in the recruitment of Nu'Keese Richardson, a wide receiver from Pahoke, Fla., who committed to Florida but signed with UT.
"I'm going to turn Florida in right now in front of you," Kiffin told the crowd. "Nu'Keese was here on campus (on his recruiting visit) and his phone kept ringing.
"One of our coaches said, 'Nu'Keese, who's that?' He said, 'Urban Meyer.'
"Just so you know, when a recruit is on another campus, you can't call him. I love the fact that Urban had to cheat and still didn't get him."
Kiffin also targeted longtime rival Alabama, which was No. 1 in the country this past season before losing to Florida in the SEC championship game.
"Nick Saban (Alabama's coach) should have started his press conference (Wednesday) by saying, 'Our great class that we signed ... I'd really like to thank Lance (Thompson) because Lance signed eight of those guys.' "
Thompson was an assistant coach and star recruiter for Saban before joining Kiffin's new staff at UT. And he's about as shy as his head coach.
"He ain't getting any more of my (recruits)," Thompson said of Saban.
Thompson also compared UT's recruiting in Memphis to Alabama's recruiting in Mobile, Ala., before he arrived.
"Everybody said, 'Auburn beats us in Mobile,' " Thompson said. "Y'all beat us anymore, Eddie (referring to former Auburn assistant coach Eddie Gran, who's now on Kiffin's staff).
"Y'all say the same thing about Memphis in Tennessee. We're going to own Memphis."
Kiffin and his assistants made it clear they don't take the recruiting services' evaluations of players as gospel. That set up Thompson for another Alabama shot.
"Just for your information, Utah had no five-stars (recruits), and they kicked the lining out of our tails," said Thompson in reference to Alabama's loss to Utah in the Sugar Bowl.
The recruiting celebration didn't end as the fans filed out of the Convention Center. In fact, it was just getting started.
Kiffin and his staff were scheduled to address UT fans in Nashville and Memphis later Thursday.

Honestly...
….I’m very surprised at Thompson. Saban made him, and he acts like this? He’s a perfect fit at UT…

Wow.
What a bunch of classless pieces of sht. I kinda laughed it off when they were running off at FL, but now it’s a different story. I’m going out of my way now to hope for their demise. EVERYONE will be gunning for UT now. And the worst part about it is that teams are not going to hate them because they are a great (FL), they are going to hate because they are UT and want to send them to the hospital. That’s a bad position to be in. It never pays to run your mouth over a little success.

F these MotherF'ers
F ‘em! They’re so GD obnoxious it makes me sick.
Tennessee finished with a lower-ranked class than Fulmer and his staff had gathered prior to being fired. Yes, recruiting doesn’t mean everything, but there class is not better than ours. And what has Tennessee done lately to merit this kind of braggadocio?
Thompson is trying to play up to the crowd, but F him, too. He thinks he was the one who lured those players because he was the one Saban sent on visits. The truth is the head coach is the primary recruiter. He always will be.
I’m starting to hate Tennessee even more than I hated them before, and that’s saying something.

You know what, it feels good to really hate Tennessee again.
While Auburn was putting it on us and during the whole lawsuit fiasco, UT kind of slipped on the hated list. I’m glad they’re back. Coach Bryant would approve.
Just me and Smokey, eyeball-to-eyeball. The man in the orange pajamas, Dude. A worthy adversary.
Then again this may be premature. Last I checked, they haven’t actually won anything yet and Coach O and Lane’s last stops both resulted in epic disasters. We’ll see what happens in October.

I find it amusing....
….that Thompson is bragging about the poor coaching job he did prior to the Sugar Bowl.

Did
you catch the contradiction when, in one sentence, he’s taking credit for 1/3 of our class, then praising Utah with “no 5 star recruits” in the next. So I guess only LT 5 star recruits are legit. The rest? Hype.

Thompson is an idiot
if he’s such a great recruiter and if Bama got good prospects cause of him, then why didn’t these guys decommit? cause they committed to Coach Saban and Bama, not to a lousy LB coach. what a moron

indifferent
my hate for UcheaT doesn’t really exist anymore. it’s hard to hate a team that sucks and has been getting their heads kicked in the past couple years. sometimes i forget they’re even there. they’re just a bump in the road. same goes for AUbarn. LSwho and UF are a different story.

i said the same thing on another thread..
i didn’t know it was possible to hate them more than I use to.
Wait till Saban uses that beautiful video next year to pump the team up prior to the 3rd Saturday in October…

I seem to remember the 4th Q of the Iron Bowl. But, if you think HE’s bent, wait until the catastrophe unfolds in the Swamp on 9/19

Thompson uh, duh, you were a Bama coach when Bama played Utah—OR WERE YOU??? Were you maybe more focused on your extra-curricular activities or tyour forced to get out of T-Town job hunt? What’a really funny is that his DIVORCE trial will taake place in good ole T-Town. HA! I bet that judge is gonna be so sympathetic to you.

Assistants follow HCs lead
And in this case, It’s like the blind following the mentally challanged.
I agree with NHB, It feels great to hate Tenn again. I can’t wait to murder them in Bryant Denny this coming year.

Guys, guys, guys
you are looking at this all wrong. This GREAT news. I was worried with Fulmer gone, we’d grow complacent towards UT. This is gas on the fire and she is a blaze bigger and brighter than ever before. I can’t remember looking forward to that certain Saturday in October this much since I last heard the name Logan Young. Renewed hate for UT? Thank you Mr. Kiffin, thank you.

I can think of specific instances...
…right off the top of my head for us, LSU, UF, Auburn, and USCar to be counting down the days until they play them. Can’t wait!

Kiffin makes Fulmer
look like a nice guy. He just turned it up a notch. I don’t think he has clue what he is getting into. And, truly what has he done? Nothing. At least Spurrier waited until after he
had beaten you to call you out.
When he said he is going to own Mephis maybe he was hinting at which bowl they will go to next year. Personally I think they have a hard time making it to 6-6.

"Great Expectations"
Was a work of fiction. Expecting Kiffie to have some actual knowledge in his big, ole empty noggin is just folly. The quote from the reprimand by the SEC Commissioner:
The phone call to which Coach Kiffin referred to in his public comments is not a violation of SEC or NCAA rules. We expect our coaches to have an understanding and knowledge of conference and NCAA rules."

What Thompson meant to say was
"Utah had no five star recruits and they ran right the hell over the defense I had a large part in coaching.
Also, I am officially declaring that I am an assclown. Thank y’all."
