pugnacious \puhg-NAY-shuhs\, adjective:
Inclined to fight; combative; quarrelsome.

Sabanblack_medium

I'm sure it's frustrating for the beat writers just trying to get a quote, but Saban's pugnacious attitude towards press conferences has endeared him to a fan base that (rightly or wrongly) has a deep seated mistrust of the media.

What’s so weird about: non-Tide fans/straight-up Nick-envy-punks/Saban-hate ‘HoBitches- is their inability to understand that manners and respect aren’t one-way streets? You can’t just go down one? They go together in the same direction, parallel preferred. And it’s never- you go this way, I go that!

Gimme a break over here, already! What’s NOT TO LIKE? Coach Saban is a man of class, honor, and pedigree. He’s had his ups and downs as a coach, and yeah, he’s 19 – 8 as OUR COACH. We’ll totally TAKE THAT! And oh, how ’bout this? Football is played on field, games are played on your head. Sometimes by the coaches! (psyche! nuh-uh?)

If there’s one thing Nick Saban has earned in his 30+ years of coaching football, his chops. He’s earned his “talkin’ chops”. Some folks tend to call that, CHARISMA. Others, they call it “WHAT A BASTARD?”. If you guys only knew?

Pugnacious. Voracious.
Tenacious, guilty as charged.

Ain’t it aces?

Nick Saban

All he asks is that, if you adhere to the fundamentals of respect and honor- there would be no reason to have issues or any problems with him, his staff, his players, or anybody at the University of Alabama.

For the media: if you respect and honor yourself and your employer, it will be apparent in the way you approach and interact with the people you expect to write about. If your methods are to patronize, antagonize, or otherwise condescend the people you are interviewing or wanting quotes from, you’ll be met with the harshest of responses and the resulting consequence could be damaging to the point of having no hope of repair. it isn’t a “right” of the media to have access to a public-person, and to that end be a “media darling” when access is granted. And if there’s “agenda” running through your blood in writing, discourse, or motivation, you obviously WILL NOT get along with Coach Nick Saban. Respect yourself, your job, your employer- act with respect to our Coach, players, and university, and everything will be honky-dorry. Maintain civilized manners in approach, disposition, and interaction- then my wonder! There wouldn’t and shouldn’t be any issue, concern, or angst (respectively) in developing a symbiotic relationship of Coach and journalist. (2-way street, if respect and manners are given to one another, respect is graciously and honorably reciprocated. You see, they go together and are nourished by the careful maintaining by and of each party. The ultimate sign of disrespect is patronizing questions, sanctimonious declarations, or trite opinions thrust upon “the conversation” where even the very notion of having to answer to them is almost as abhorrent as the person who has done the “thrusting”. Coach Saban has BEEN AROUND! He’s got “shenanigan-vision”, and he’s hardly ever wrong when he sees it.

So he is sometimes viewed as “pugnacious”? What-f_cking-EVER! What’s so hilarious is that we really only here about “Saban’s bad side” from THE MEDIA. Nary a coach or player around would have the same opinion of the guy. And if they did, you can be sure they crossed the line someway somehow- otherwise they would not ever be in the position to have to “feel” that way to begin with. Now I’m not saying Coach Saban is an angel. A happy, gregarious chap with smile to greet you and a knuckle-tough/hug/knuckle-touch to bid you goodbye. He’s intense, surly, and highly-motivated to make men out of boys and champions out of his players. He gets paid a wad of dough and wants to show the people who love Alabama Crimson Tide football that he deserves it.

I love Coach’s personality, charisma, and pugnaciousness. It’s a lot better than NOT having him and having a mediocre football to love with little to no expectation of things getting better in the near future. Nope. No way would I trade Coach Saban for anyone else as head coach.

Coach Saban is all about winning, not necessarily winning for glory’s sake. Winning because there’s nothing else better in life that seeing the results of the hard work, dedication, and loyalty play out in the future of the young lives he is entrusted to help teach, mold, and mentor as they study in the halls of Alabama University and don the honored football jerseys of the Crimson Tide.

There’s a lot to like about Nick Saban, the person. There’s a ton to love about Nick Saban, head football coach.
