46 Days and Counting
It's not that I'm trying to be the first, but I'm planning on going to my first A-day game and was wondering if anyone had made or was planning a tailgate get together? I'm looking forward to putting a face with many of the names that are here on RBR and getting to see the game. I know that it just the A-day game, but any chance to go to BDS and see Bama is worth it.
I am also curious about our qb situation and how Mc and Star will do now the starting job is on the line. I want to see how our offensive line and who will step up and take the RB position.
One more thing, I know that I've probably missed it, but when does spring practice begin? And when do those great spring practice threads start also, because though I don't post much I read RBR most everyday. Looking forward to 2009!

I too amn going to my first A-day game
Im taking my wife to her first Alabama event and my new baby will get to see the capstone for the first time. Its a lot cheaper then buying regular season tickets and they still get to feel a game day vibe. Any advice you guys can give us first timers?
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.

Get in the stadium early
It’s awful crowded once you get in there. I’d say an hour early should suffice, but if you want primo seats, be waiting at the gates. Take them to the Walk-of-Champions and anything on the North end early, because of the fact lots of people are coming to that, so it stays crowded…. Most of all, pick one group to focus on each play, and you’ll learn alot more than trying to watch everything at once

Why?
I wonder why coach would make it so they have 1 practice and then a 10 layoff? I know there has to be a reason behind it and am curious if anyone knows why he scheduled it like that.

I would bet...
…that this is an opportunity to remind the players that they are a part of a team and to act responsibly (for themselves, their teammates and family) while on Spring Break. It will have been a spell since these guys were focused on football.
“Spring Break” may be a college rite, but don’t forget why you have a free education.
In other words…stay out of the headlines.

Actually,
I read recently in an article that he changed it because otherwise they would’ve been practicing on Easter weekend and he wanted the players and coaches to be with family during that holiday. Though the hard-assed team-first stuff sounds good, too.

You
know thats a pretty good spot that I never would’ve thought of. Right there on the Strip. I usually set up in one of the $25 private lots around the stadium, just makes me feel like my stuff is more secure.

Notice Todd or Nico...
…have not responded to your query. Todd mentioned doing something once, but I have my doubts since nothing has been said since then. A few of us have gotten together on our own, but RBR has not organized it. I know that LittleSis and I will be there in my RV prolly hanging out with SpockJenkins and BR07 who’s getting to T-Town late.

Easier said than done...
An RBR tailgate would be nice, but I think it would be hard to get it together. I live too far away to realistically do it — it’s a pain for me just to get there in time for the games, sometimes — and Todd has a superstition about attending games.
It’d be a great thing to do, and if we got a tent and some banners done I imagine it would do wonders for traffic volume on the site, but it’s going to be hard to pull off.
by outsidethesidelines on Mar 4, 2009 2:58 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm being serious here, not just being bitchy..
Since it’s a practice, Todd’s superstition doesn’t come into play. It’s just an excuse IMO. There was a web site last year that put together a pretty awesome tailgate with former players signing autographs and food/non alcoholic drinks. They don’t have near the readership of RBR.
I believe most readers would be happy to contribute to food/mixers and bring their own liquor, but it should be sponsored and supported by RBR managers. A way to say thank you to your loyal readers and contributors who many days keep the site humming when you’re in the library studying, Todd’s sick and watching movies, and Nico is listening to bizarre music. Maybe ya’ll want to maintain anonymity and that’s fine, but if that’s the case, just say so.

Yeah, ya'll have fun with that
two years straight I have been trying to get something together, but everyone falls apart near the end. Last year, some dude was going to do banners with RBR and logo on it, I was going to bring a grill and tent, and we even talked about getting a TV. In the end, I just found it easier to hook up with vicki, comer and the gang.
If ya’ll get something together, I may stop by. But I’ve had it with the shenanigans of trying to get one together and have nearly everyone who was gungho about it in the beginning fall off the face of the earth when it’s time to pull everything together. OTS may be right, I’ll be chilling with my peeps on here special “BR07” Doesn’t Go To Jail" tailgating party…

I'm not quite sure how to take that morri...
…since I don’t remember giving you a hard time before like Todd, bammer, and comer. There were good reasons for that, though, IMO.

I just like to stand up for the guys
Nothing against you, but hey sometimes you have to suck up to administration to ever get things changed (i.e. RBR sweetheart, Todd’s Dictatortoaraship). Nothing against you at all though, just teasing

I used to wait tables at Wings in Tuscaloosa
Awesome food, none of the “behind the scene” horror stories you always hear… It was living hell, but I think thats just wait staff jobs in general.

Nah
Never got to meet Bob… I worked there for about 3 months, then I had Spring Football coming up, so I was going to be coaching, and Spring Break was coming up…. and I got an offer to umpire little league baseball, and I was gone!

To Hell with Bob...
Wings generally has great food at a decent price, but the last time we went in there it was very much sub-par, and after his comments about Saban I don’t have anything for Baumhower, so his margin of error for me is quite small and that put it over the edge.
