Kiffin Awarded Game Ball

KNOXVILLE - In an emotional postgame locker room ceremony following the dramatic Orange victory over White, Tennessee team captains voted to award the game ball to Coach Lane Kiffen.  "Without him in there in the huddle telling all of us what to do, we simply couldn't have a run a single play," quarterback (sic) Jonathan Crompton said. "He really gave us confidence, and I'm glad to know he'll be standing right next to me for every play this fall."

Others gave more weight to the fiery pre-game motivational speech Kiffen delivered.  All-American safety Eric Berry, who was held out of the game which recovering from an injury said, "Seeing Coach rip his shirt off and threaten that if we didn't win Coach O would do the same was enough to really get everybody focused and committed.  The guys went out there and gave their all to prevent that."

For his part, Kitten seemed to view the game ball as a token of affection from his players, and also as a rebuttal to his critics.  "I guess all those people who said I hadn't won a game in the SEC will have to shut up now," Kiffen said.  "I think we proved today that we have what it takes to put a whipping on everybody on our schedule."  (Athletic Director Mike Hamilton later clarified Kiffen's remarks, indicating that he had meant to say "whupping" but his Californian--Tennessean translator had malfunctioned during the interview.)  "I'm planning a new series of illegal recruiting contacts and secondary violations that should scare the pants of every team we'll face...and the shirt off Coach O unless we keep playing well," Kiffen concluded.

Coach O was reached for comment, but as none of his words were recognizable as English, no quotes are provided.  He did provide a handwritten condemnation of future recruits' grandparents, but since it was legible, it quite likely was written by someone else.

This girl?

Gets me more than I care to be gotten! She has my number or something?

How you doing bamavicki? Is Florida treating you right? We got burning hotness out here in LA-LA-land, into the 80’s, clear; grey; smog-covered skies. Absolutely zero humidity, or so it seems. But, the sunsets are beauties though. Weird long strands of altocumulus clouds all dressed in a mix of Halloween-orange, Tuscan-pinkish/beige, and cinnamon-red! If it weren’t so real (the smog, sky, and subsequent coloring), it seems totally surreal. Seriously, we’ve had 5 consecutive days of this in Santa Monica/Venice. Almost like a Botticelli painting of an Armageddon-sky. I was at the Coachella Music Festival this past weekend and they tried to mimic/outright copy cat the famous Burning Man structure/effigy and. . . .judging by the legion of clueless concert-revelers, you’d think the End of Days are really upon us. A few instances of “crowd out-of-control” running in, through, around certain installation sets (artwork, performance art, cyber-cafes, modeling shows, etc) as well as concert tents with live performances going on- literally just ransacking and marauding!

The dichotomy of it all? The very same “utes” swaying and singing to that peaceful-warrior, Paul McCartney. Strange. The brain-cell activity of anyone under 25 (or lack, thereof). What’s even weirder? These people VOTE!

I’m sure Florida’s doing you right. Hope your sunsets find you smiling.

Sad

thing is those people are everywhere. And what are they so angry about? My parent’s generation had real things to protest. There was the ‘establishment’ and the whole ’don’t trust anyone over 30’ thing. But now? It seems that for the younger generation to have something to have angst over, they need to invent it. You should ask any one of them if they’ve bothered to realize that they (unfortunately) are now the establishment.

Here in Bham, all we have is the wannabe artsy fartsy crowd that live on southside and pretend they are quite in touch while the rest of us are lucky to be breathing their air. All the while listening to Dave Matthews and thinking they understand his music.
I miss the smell of the beach and long to be back in Melbourne again, where the sand is soft and the breeze is sweet. A little Jimmy Buffett music if you please, and maybe some Don Henley for good measure.

Thanks a bunch jtC

But credit must be given to where it is due: Tom Waits (wink: Nico) He has this song where he’s a narrator, and not really “singing” singing. Ok, ok- some might say that’s redundant. . .but really- there’s like Muzak going on in the background and Tom tells about a dude who gets married, buys a pooch, and starts a nuclear family: bills and ALL! Decides to come home from work early, douses his own house with gas (wife still inside) and drive away "Halloween-orange, chimney-red. . " (but the “pooch”? he has in his lap and they cruise off into fugitive-land.

I’m a plagiarizer, in this regard. But I am more than happy to introduce you to one of Tom Waits’ funniest and most succinct songs about mid-life crisis. (for the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the song????)

I do appreciate your kindness in taking the time to be complimentary, though. I truly do.

There's a fair degree of truth in that

What’s that old saying, “There hasn’t been a new story, that hasn’t already been told”. (only the names, places, and amount of riches/losses have been changed- to give victory to the conquerors)

I like your new sig, I liked the old one as a matter of fact. speaking of beaches? there’s a Will Rogers State Beach Park right smack dab off Highway 1 leading out of Santa Monica up towards Malibu in a small town called Pacific Palisades. And, inland- about 1.5 miles (that’s how much land Will Rogers owned at one time) there’s a tiny road you can take (tourists don’t know about it all that much) that will lead you to a majestic expanse of a meadow that will end in a roundabout with plenty of parking and it’s a LA city-run park. Mr. Rogers bequeathed his entire estate to the State which turned it over to the city (for maintanence purposes that has a villa (for weddings and whatnot), a sh_tload of stables for horseplay, equestrian/dressage facility, tons of variously dispersed picnic tables, and this ginormous area of meticulously-cared for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey fields. No football or baseball allowed! That’s where I play Ultimate (frisbee) every Thursday afternoon. All of it, FREE (except for the horse riding stuff, but even that- still, is nominal).

Will Rogers. Great American icon. A genius AND a gentleman.

Not to mention all the people, especially friends of mine, who voted for him because of the “change” – whether it was change from right to left, white to black, whatever.

I will say I have many friends – a couple on this board in fact – that voted for Obama for legitimate reasons; fundamental beliefs/thoughts/views I may or may not agree with, but at least they voted with a purpose. I think that is great. I just get pissy thinking of the overwhelming majority of people who voted for him because he gave eloquent speeches, or smiled a lot, or was black.

Reply to BR07-

I have friends that were all up W’s butt in ’00 and ’04 and now all the sudden they are Obamaiods. We seem to be living in a climate where the tug of popular sentiment rules the day, rather than who has the best ideas and policies. Like you said, I have no problem with genuine, substantive disagreements, but the level of ignorance that most people operate under is quite distressing. After interacting with some of them, you walk away thinking to yourself “the country is finished, we have no hope.” It can be very discouraging. You just have to hold out hope that the best thoughts and ideas will rise to the surface. But that’s easily said than done, especially with a media that has forgotten what its job is long ago.

History

considers him a founder due to his role in the Revolutionary War and he was certainly one of the greatest presidents in history primarily due to his success as the leader of the Continental Army. Even though he oversaw the ratifying of the Constution, I don’t think he played a part in authoring it. Nor did he sign the Delcaration of Independence.

does that have to do with anything? Just because I oppose him on his economic policies you post a link ‘veterans for obama’ like I’m supposed to have a change of heart because a few war heros support him?

Nobody...

…will have a ‘change of heart’ based on any of these pro/anti-conservative/liberal comments posted here. That’s why I prefer to keep it on football and fun.

Well, I appreciate that, Jeremy...

…because you were almost dead to me, and not over the Boom Roasted shit either. Don’t EVER generalize me in with “the problem with ALL liberals” again. The ironic thing is I’m not even that liberal, but there are a few fundamental things the conservatives are for that I’m against that I cannot get over and that is the way it is.

by bamavicki on Apr 21, 2009 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Ok, a couple of things

First, I didn’t generalize you nor anyone else in that forum. If you took it personally or took offense to it, I’m sorry. It certainly wasn’t meant to offend, however my point was made that it is seemingly ok, from my point of view and my experience with liberal-minded friends and acquaintences, that it is ok to trash Bush but not Obama. That was my point, and it PLAYED OFF YOUR POST which backed up my point. You and Bammer started the political comments, and when we interjected with our OPINIONS, people’s feelings got hurt. So now I know where the limits for conversation in this forum stand.

Secondly, why did you take the “Boom. Roasted!” thing so personally? If I recall you were the one who told me to “grow up” and I ONE TIME gave you a Boom. Roasted! Again, why in the hell would anyone take that so personally? I understand you didn’t like it – don’t read it! The board doesn’t revolve around one singular person deciding what they like and don’t like. I would never call you out like that, but you did so to me first then got upset when I joked with you. Seriously, where is the line drawn?

Finally, I feel the same about “You’re dead to me” as you must about “Boom. Roasted!”. You sling that around when you get upset, and it gets really, really old. You should know enough about me after hanging out a couple of times and all our private conversations to know I don’t take anything personally nor do I give anything in a personal manner. We love to have a good time, we all love Alabama, but fundamentally alot of us are gonna have differing opinions. Part of life! If there is a thread you don’t like, do what I do and don’t bother with it!

No hard feelings. I’m not upset, seriously no one should get upset on the Internet (unless they accidentally read TET, which is another story). I love hanging out with Vicki, we had a blast before.

A few "facts" to clear the air...

…even though YOU made the comment:

The problem with libs

is they are quick to lump everything on Bush and not let little things like facts or the truth change their perception

directly to a comment of mine.

1) I try to stay away from politics on this site since, as I stated, I don’t think it’s the place for it. There came a point, however, when I got tired of snide comments about Obama or downright bashing. There has been far more of it than Bush bashing, both before and after the election. When you said you “missed” George W, I was floored and remain so. Sorry I accused you of “being out of your freakin’ mind”, but that was my first thought. I was willing to:

We’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this one…

but a few couldn’t let it go and continued on and on and still on. I fault the mods on this site for not stepping in and stopping it. But what else is new?

2)The “Boom Roasted” thing. I never said anything about it to anyone until you put it SEVEN times in your sig. I told YOU MY opinion on it. You could do with it as you will. I did not take it personally until you said it TO ME AFTER I gave you my opinion on it.

3)The “Dead to Me” thing. Before my comment above, I had said it ONE time in January about Andre Smith. I believe somebody else said it about him as well, but that was the ONLY time I’ve said it on this board. Search it on this site and you will see. Do the same with “Boom Roasted”, and it’s quite a different story on how many times it’s been said. Don’t read a thread because it’s in it? I couldn’t GET THROUGH a thread for a while without someone saying it. Once again, I NEVER said anything except to YOU.

4)I’m going to say again that we’re just going to have to agree to disagree.

You had me at "ROLL TIDE"!!!

Oh and the comment about missing George Bush was

in response to Bammer’s posts making fun of him AND it was said in relation to our current situation. But that’s neither here nor there. On this one subject, at least, we just disagree and that’s cool…

Intentional "Error"

I only used it once to keep the piece as realistic as possible, but I had to work it in at least that one time. It’s just too perfect. Lame Kitten he is and shall remain.
