Tailgating Recipe Challenge: "Just Say No to Jorts" Gator Tail Po’ Boy
Mr. Dennis Rowlen sent this one in, and even though alligator is a little exotic for typical tailgate fare it's definitely tasty and readily available online.
For the Gator:
1 lb - alligator cut into ½" cubes
1 cup – butter milk
¼ cup – seasoned fish fry
¼ tps – salt
¼ tps – black pepper
Cooking oil (vegetable or peanut work)
Soak the gator meat in milk for an hour, then drain and toss in plastic bag with dry ingredients and mix well to coat all sides of meat with batter. Fry in 360 degree oil until the gator chunks float then remove to newspaper until your bread is ready.
For the Po’ Boys: for each sandwich you’ll want:
10" long piece of NOLA style bread
4 tbsp – mayo
3 tbsp – Zatarain’s Creole Mustard
¾ cup – shredded lettuce
3 or 4 tomato slices
It’s best to slice the bread horizontally and leave a little bit connected on the back end for stability. Put the mayo and mustard down first, then the tomato, then gator and top with lettuce. If you put the lettuce and tomato together there is too little friction and the contents ends up on your lap. To be served with 12-15 ice cold beers of your choosing.

i had this at the SEC Champ game
and they were amazing, go great with whiskey and sweet tea, and home cut style fries or cajun rice with them. either or is really good with them.

Not a bad deal if they don’t use the teeth.

My ultimate dream...
….is to do a YouTube based cooking show blending tailgating and opponent previews. Now if only I were independently wealthy….

I've
always wondered what the term “independently wealthy” meant. Does it mean your wealth aren’t tied up in assets and is primarily liquid, or does it mean you’re unemployed?

hmmmm
I always took it to mean, you’ve got some much money that you don’t have to work, if you don’t want to.
Todd, you don’t need a bunch of money to start a YouTube cooking/highlight show. All you need is a camera, a trip to the green grocer/butcher and some highlights. I don’t know what the last part would cost, maybe nothing, if you get “Express Written Permission”.

True...
…but I also need time, which I have increasingly smaller amounts of with a job, a girlfriend, a puppy, a book deal, and a blog to maintain. If I could eliminate the job part of that equation and have my days free, this would be the awesomest Alabama blog you could ever imagine (seriously people, if one of you will pay me a competitive salary I am all over this).

And yes, independtly wealthy...
…typically means possessing sufficient wealth as to not need income from employment or financial assistance/support from someone else.
