After Gene Stallings stepped down and until the youthful Mike Shula was hired, it seemed like "overweight milksop" was a prerequesite for the head coaching job in Tuscaloosa.

They had interviews with coach Fran and I remember thinking to myself "I just can’t see this guy having any credibility in the arena of chewing ass, especially to a 6-5 300lb. lineman." Ben Pollard was the best part of that coaching staff. He was a hell of a strength coach.
