John Parker Wilson just agreed to a free agent deal with the Falcons

Twitter / Ian R. Rapoport

Can't find any links beyond Rapoport's tweet, but looks like Wilson is staying down south.

I like JPW

but don’t know if Falcons offer him much of a future. But like any free agent he is a long shot anyway. Maybe he can make the team as #3 QB- but it will be tough.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

No way will JPW

win against Matt Ryan.

But still, being a Falcons fan, this kinda makes me happy. But no, JPW will only be battling for backup or lower.

I actually do.

Compared to the alternatives the Falcons have to Ryan, JPW is an upgrade.

No hes not lol

not even close

Im a browns fan so I know chris redman pretty well, and he did decent for a back up against much better defenses in Pittsburgh and Baltimore at practice than youll ever see in the NFC south playing against the bucs saints and panthers

Now that I've thought about this,

I think it’s a great move. Who do the Falcons have behind Ryan? Chris Redman? I’d much rather have JPW as a #2…

why in the world?

chris redman has a career passer rating of 79.4 or something like that and a td/int ration of 17-10. Not to mention he has plenty of snaps as a starter in NFL games. He is a quality no 2 quarterback.

John Parker wont be that, I can almost promise you.

the more I look into it, the bleaker things look for our boy IMO

First of all youve got Matt Ryan, I dont need to explain why JPW wont beat him out.

Then youve got Chris Redman, Ive already explained why JPW wont beat him out.

Finally on the Falcon’s depth chart youve got DJ Shockley, our old friend from Georgia. DJ hasnt taken an NFL snap but he did beat out Joey Harrington for the roster spot and a lot of people though he was going to start for the Falcons in 07 before he got injured.

I

don’t think anybody expects JPW to beat anybody out of a starting job. If he holds a clip board for 3-5 years making the league min. thats still way more than he’ll make during that time doing anything else.

A man named Bamarulez

told me this morning that JPW will not only beat Matt Ryan for the starting job, he’ll be the NFC’s starter in the Pro Bowl for five of the next eight years.

MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--

BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.

exactly...

i’d love to see him get a few gameday snaps over the course of the next few years but i’m not expecting him to ever start. he’ll pick up a nice paycheck and probably become a practice squad leader. which should serve him well when he decides what he wants to do post-football. all-in-all not bad for a two-star recruit nobody outside tuscaloosa gave an iota of respect.

He

only had 1 other SEC offer, Ole Miss if I remember.

good for JPW

he worked his butt off while he was here and he made the most of his opportunities. i cant imagine he’ll do anything else with his new NFL opportunity as well.

According to that list that may or may not be accurate...

TE Travis McCall – Buffalo Bills
DE Bobby Greenwood – Kansas City Chiefs
OG Marlon Davis – Cleveland Browns
TE Nick Walker – Minnesota Vikings
QB John Parker Wilson – Atlanta Falcons

And so much for those "vaunted Big 12 quarterbacks".

Of the four who came out this year only Josh Freeman and Stephen McGee(!) were drafted (ridiculously). Apparently “big” is a better indicator of success than “good”. Chase Daniel and Graham Harrell both went undrafted.

Quarterbacks whom the NFL deemed better than those two Big 12 boys: Tom Brandstater (Fresno), Mike Teel (Rutgers), Keith Null (West Texas A&M), and Curtis Painter (Purdue), who was benched last year in exchange for a freshman running back.

behold!

the distain of “the spread” and those who espouse it on the part of the pros.

by kleph on Apr 27, 2009 12:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Which is probably why Tebow opted to stay for his Sr season...

As great a competitor and leader that he is, from what I’ve read (sorry, no link) he’s pretty much never taken a snap under center, and uf hired a new qb coach to teach him how and to tinker with his passing motion. Florida may be defending champs, but this season is all about preparing Tebow for the next level, because it doesn’t bode well for recruiting if you’re all-everything as a spread qb, but the pros think you’re a ‘project’. Daniel and Harrelson and any other qb in the spread system just got a huge dose of reality.

thats crazy

mike teel sucks and is cry baby no leadership having loser. i dont know much about the rest other than painter had good QB coaching while at purdue, but so did daniels and harrell. and mcgee is a fat loser. he’s not even jarred lorenzen level good, he’s just jared lorenzen level fat.

I like JPW also..

But to be honest in my opinion he may have a better shot at winning a position on the Jaguars or Titans than he will the Falcons. If he is just trying to stay close to home that is.

I

was crossing my fingers that the Jags would pick him up. Then Shula would’ve turned him into the next Kurt Warner. Awwwweee yeeeahhhh.

I told my mom JPW went to the Falcons

She asked me if our cousin Elizabeth got in to Emory. She did.

I guess my mom has notions of not only buying a JPW-Falcons jersey, she might just get out to see that guy play. She went to last year’s Iron Bowl game just to get a glimpse of him. She came back happy! (and like. . . .30 digital pics of him)
