Umm...

I think Rolando goes higher, Cody lower (maybe), and Arenas much lower. He’s not tall enough to be a 1st round pick. I know he’s got great return skills, but he’s not ever used on the offensive side of the ball and I don’t see the point in drafting an undersized corner who will primarily function as a return man in the first round.

“he’s got great return skills”

Once he catches the football he’s as good as anyone in college ball . . . unfortunately getting to that point has caused him a lot of problems.

He

is prone to mental mistakes. Remember when he caught the ball and stepped out of bounds in the SEC CG?

Rolando will be the #1 overall pick in 2011...

…after his senior season. No, I don’t really believe it. Yes, I do really hope so.

Ro

will go top 10. Will be suprised if Arenas goes in the 1st round. And Cody will go top 15-25.

Here to say

the same as everyone else, Rolando goes higher.

by Bobby Briggs on Apr 28, 2009 3:16 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Honestly,

SI is on crack. No way Ro goes later than the tenth pick, providing he stays healthy. Mount Cody is a solid top twenty pick, providing he stays healthy. I’m thinking Arenas will go mid-second round because of his height. No way Javy is picked before Rolando. No offense to Javy, he is still one of the best return men in the NCAA.

Cody

Cody will surely go higher than Rolando. Rolando is a stud and probably our most valuable defender, but that doesn’t always equate to draft position, just look how far Rashad Johnson slid.

Cody is a rare big talent, many teams have gone to the 3 – 4 lately, so big DEs and NTs are in high demand, and Cody is a perfect NT, I think he’s our only guy that has a chance to break into the top 10. Hell, I think I remember Kiper having Cody in his top 10 at one point.

I think the big surprise there is Javier, just to be listed that high indicates he’s no longer being seen as a just a dangerous return man.

I definately would not go on what Kiper said

because in 2004 he said the QB class would be a bust. Lets see, between the three QB’s taken in the draft in 2004; three Super Bowl wins. I do not put alot of stock in what he preaches.

I believe he said

they WOULDN’T be a bust…i could be wrong though

he said...

that one of them would be a bust… I dont really think you could call any of them busts so far, so he’s still wrong.

Cody and Rolando

both are top 10 picks.

Mike Johnson

may also be a high draft pick. A healthy Upchurch could really surprise people too.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

Why Rolando?

I hate to rain on any parades here, but exactly why would Rolando go higher? He’s a great ,run-stuffing middle linebacker, but he can really only play in the middle, and at any rate he’s a liability in pass coverage and not particularly good at rushing the passer.

Now I’ll be the first to admit that he might be the best inside linebacker in college football, but the NFL is a very pass happy league, and they do not place a very high premium on run-stuffing inside linebackers. The NFL will take linebackers high and pay them big money, but they are almost always the guys who can play on the outside against the pass, covering tight ends, and with the ability to rush the passer off the edge. Inside guys just aren’t the same. Look back at the draft this past weekends, and find where the top two inside linebacker prospects went… that’s right, early second round, despite being All-Americans and multiple-year starters on two powerhouse college football teams.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to knock on Rolando, mind you, but until he shows that he can either rush the passer or defend the pass better than he has to this point, he’ll be fortunate just to go where this guy has him.

Its

amazing though that even with all the evaluations that the NFL does, that teams are still vulnerable to hype. The SEC has a good reputation with that position, most recently with Patrick Willis. And the draft in general is a very hype-oriented process. On draft day, teams seem to go more on hype or reputation than evidence. Also I think the “we have to get him so XYZ doesn’t get him!” mentality comes out on draft day. There will be a sorry-ass team picking in the top 10 that will need a “franchise middle LB” and they will snatch him.
