Recruiting Lockdown WHAT
Working on a recruiting piece for Yea Alabama, and just realized something:
Of the top ten recruits in the state last year, Saban signed eight of them. The other two? JUCO and Ole Miss. Guess those beautiful plains aren't that beautiful after all...

And honestly
Jamontay Pilson is way too much of an Auburn sounding name for us to sign him.

I thought the first sign of this happening...
…was when CNS showed up in 2007 and convinced a few local fellas to come to Tuscaloosa (especially the finally-on-campus Kerry Murphy). Obviously, the recruiting season was not yet over when Coach Shula was fired, but, at the time, we had only one of the state’s top players (Rolando McClain) on board to 7 or 8 for the barn. By signing day, we had 4 to their 6. I remember thinking then that, if he could make that big of a change in that short a time, the future was going to be bright.
Of course, maybe the top players in this year’s class are just smarter than those of 2007. Anything’s possible.

they are probably just as smart. a player goes where he thinks is best for his future and, logically, uses past performance to make that decision. the problem is that it’s a flawed means of measure.

Umm...
…that part was supposed to ‘sound’ sarcastic. My bad.

A Dark Cloud
Yes, but that was before they had the limo! Tremble before the power of the barn on wheels… ha.

Alas,
the days of the stretch tractor recruiting juggernaut are upon us!

I really wish I had made a note of all of the Barners running their mouths about ’Bama being dead back in ’05 and ’06, as though Auburn was destined to be on top forever. I tried to tell them, but did they listen? Noooo.

Ironic
that it happened to be Tuberville’s undoing. He got them all drunk off of beating ’Bama every year and winning in-state recruiting battles, that once things changed, they thought they were entitled to it being that way. Funny how roles reverse, and then reverse back again.

And it should be noted...
We never gave Jamontay Pilson a firm offer last year, and we never really recruited D.T. Shackelford.
We haven’t really missed on an in-state prospect we wanted some Corley / Jones / McNeil in February 2007.
