pigs fly, hell freezes over, and rbr has a baseball post
via grfx.cstv.com
i bitched about a lack of baseball coverage...todd told me if i didn't like it to contribute something...i told todd i had no interest in contributing...so here i am contributing. our boys completed the 3 game sweep of arkansas (who just happened to be ranked #11) this afternoon. the sweep brings the tide within a half game of lsu for not only the sec west lead, but the overall best record in the sec. the tide has had a few slumps this season (including getting swept by florida back in march), but with this weekend's sweep they have now won 7 in a row. all that is left before the long trip to hoover is a midweek game with jacksonville state, and a weekend series in auburn. barring a complete bed wetting in the next two weeks, the tide should no doubt be hosting a regional to start the post season. with all of the meaningful games in the near future, and all of the talented players (fyi: kent matthes is tied for the national lead with 25 dingers. not to mention austin hyatt who is 7-1 with an era around 3.00 and threw the complete game friday night), this team deserves a little bit of love around here. so let's support bama baseball, huh??
FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

I could show the BAMA baseball team...
…a little love. There is some good beefcake on the team. Are you listening Todd? I didn’t think so. Ross Wilson has recently been invited to the Team USA baseball trials. Good luck, Ross!!
You had me at "ROLL TIDE"!!!
umm...
Roll Tide?

If you haven't followed
this team this year they have made real improvement. We have real power up and down the line up and at least one real good pitcher in Hyatt. I would not be surprised if these guys made it to the CWS. If they do will RBR have any coverage?
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Thanks GD
I started the 2006-2007 season with regular updates on Bama baseball, but after what I thought was a lack of interest I stopped posting. They actually made a run that yr and lost in game 3 to UNC at the Tuscaloosa super regional (or was that 05-06?).
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .
that was 05 06
i was at that game and the UNC fans were really nice and they said they had toured the bear bryant museum and they were talking about how they thought basketball at UNC was big but that football in tuscaloosa was as big if not bigger!!!
The same things win that always won, and we just have a bunch of new excuses as to why we didnt achieve it!!! RDT
And
besides, girls dig baseball players because you can actually see their faces. Maybe we’ll get a few more female posters? A guy can dream.

Thanks Gerry
nice write up. Good to know that the team is doing well. Hope you continue to keep us informed.
I've heard
that Mtn Brook High School baseball player Judd Golsan is playin baseball next with the Tide. Has anybody heard of any other baseball recruits?
I aint never been nothin but a winner A'ight
RBR...
… if we make the CWS, I guess we’ll have a little about it, but honestly probably nothing overly major. If someone else wants to post about things, I’ll be glad to bump it to the front page so long as the quality is decent, but honestly neither myself or Todd have any real interest in, or knowledge of, college baseball, so we don’t have anything to add.
Besides, just being really honest, both of us fight real life interruptions to be able to post on the blog, and when we can really post something, I think the mutual interest is to just do it about football related stuff. I know personally I’ve got a ton of football pieces I want to get written, and any blogging time I have goes to that.

Seconded....
Seriously, after this week I should be through with everything but proofing of the final layouts on Yea Alabama, and when I get back to blogging for reals it’s straight back to the football. I just flat don’t know enough about baseball to offer any commentary on it. But if you guys wanted to pool your resources and provide quality analysis and commentary, go for it. We’re not afraid to hit “FP Add” on you.
i was in
until you said “quality.”
seriously though, i don’t know if i can keep up with rugman, but i’ll do my best to provide coverage of the important stuff over what hopefully turns out to be another month of baseball.

"Quality"...
Well, “quality” isn’t an overly demanding standard here. I’m not saying it has to be anything overly extensive, and it certainly doesn’t have to be groundbreaking work. By “quality,” I pretty much just mean it needs to hit all the basic information and have at least pretty acceptable grammar.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not necessarily against having baseball analysis here, I actually fellow MLB pretty closely, read BP daily, and find the sabermetrics side of the game very interesting. That said, I honestly don’t have the time to do it, and truthfully I’ve always found college baseball a bit boring, and frankly I just don’t know anything about it. I check the scores and the standings occasionally, and I’ll watch the CWS, but aside from that my knowledge is really limited.
It would be a pretty good idea, though, I think, to have some baseball updates in the next few weeks. Hopefully we can win enough to make for some excitement.

I think that we should on monday
have a wrap up of all the sports (gymnastics softball baseball… etc) that we played that weekend!! just a thought dont know of its a possibilty

I would not call myself an expert on
college baseball but with the metal bats I think it is actually more exciting the MLB.
For example if Matthes were playing a 162 game schedule he’d hit like 80+ HR.
Teams can make big comebacks and no lead is safe. The best high school pitchers often skip college when they are drafted so pitching does not dominate like it does in MLB. Plus if you listen on the radio Chris Stewart is a great announcer.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
I would consider myself
a pretty diehard college baseball fan. I’d be willing to do something for the baseball team. I can’t promise how good it would be though. BammerBoy, if you’ll give me some time I’ll get you some more info on the recruits for next year.
Signees
Here is a list and a write-up on all of the Fall signees. http://tidefans.com/forums/baseball/79431-diamond-notes-bama-announces-11-early-signees.html I don’t have the time to do a write-up on all 12 signees today. I can tell you that there is a good chance Trey Pilkington and Adam Windsor never step foot on campus (which has been a huge knock on Well’s recruiting classes as of late, but that’s another story/debate for another day). But, to play with the best you have to sign the best and hope they don’t get drafted too high.
