Hate to say it
but JPW’s best chance of even making the team is if someone ahead of him gets hurt in preseason.
Can’t see him in Canada or in one of the Arena leagues but the fat QB from Ky, Lorenzen (sp) is in the Arena2 league so you never know.
If we still had NFL Europe that would be a place he could improve.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Eh...
… he’s definitely not an NFL prospect, and probably not even a CFL prospect either, but I could see him sticking in the Arena leagues.
The real question there, though, is whether or not you even want to play at that stage. A lot of those AF2 guys make only a few hundred dollars a game, and there’s no future in it whatsoever. Honestly, anyone with any decent non-football prospects would probably just go and start “real” life. I figure that’s what Wilson will do.
Truthfully, he has the communication skills and clean looks needed to do some some of football analysis. Tyler Watts is really starting to move through the ranks, and Wilson could fill some of his spots in the next few years.
Hell, truth be told, just being the former Alabama quarterback translates into big bucks on the outside. Look at guys like Barker and Watts, they’ve made hundreds of thousands, if not millions, essentially based on the fact that they used to play quarterback for ’Bama. What can you say? The job has its perks.

With
a business degree and his name recognition as a former Alabama QB, he could easily land a good job in the Bham metro area where his family lives. And not to mention, he’ll be close to Alabama football where he grew up a fan. Must be hard to transition from fan, to being a part of it, then back to fan.

I with you Ben...
Former Alabama Football player with a brain? With Alumni connections and name recognition this guy can be making big bucks out the gate. He’s better off getting back to civilian life, but it’s gotta be hard to leave the game behind.

Transition
It is indeed difficult to make that transition. I grew up a ‘Bama fan, got my undergraduate degree here, and then worked as a graduate assistant for football video operations during the franchione days. Now I’m back working in the College of Commerce and Business Administration. I don’t miss a lot of the crap work that we had to do in video ops, but I often think it would be very cool to be back “on the inside” in a different capacity. We’ll just have to see what opens up in the future…

well, all of those reasons are why pursuing the NFL as hard as he can makes sense...
…it’s an uphill battle but every bit of it adds to his value as an analyst/coach/speaker whatever. having had the success at the collegate level and made his best effort in the pros he can speak with authority about the differences between the two. a very helpful perspective for any of the career suggestions being made here.
i’m still hoping he can somehow swing a third-string job somewhere for a year or two and get his ducks in a row for all those other post-football avenues that will be out there. sure, it’s a short ride compared to what most of those first-day picks will enjoy but its still a thousand miles further than any of us will ever get along that road.
and keep this in mind. jpw is a hoover alum… one of those schools the barners pulled up in front of in the limo not to long ago. now which do you think is going to impress an on-the-fence prospect more… some goofball coach acting like it’s the prom… or a player with pretty-good-but-not-great skills that got as far as jpw?
