My hair
is blond, it’s just wet in that picture. They will definitely have either red or blond hair though.

it was bizarre, but very cool
You can walk right up to it…the little musuem beside it has some very nice works by Grant Wood, and the archeao students who man it tell some droll little stories. My favorite is the fact that the entire painting was intended as a spoof, b/c the farmhouse is so small, the family so austere (and they are fictional btw) and it carries that HUGE imposing gothic window.

Yeah almost what you need to go down there. I was on a VBSS team for my ship. That was right before we went over to take control of a drug/human smuggling vessel.

My bro serves out of Mayport, Jacksonville. I don’t know which ship he’s most recently been assigned to, may still be landlocked, but he’s served on The O’Sullivans and McInerny recently.
Oh . . .
For those interested, that is Visit Board Search Seizure (VBSS).
These men do lots of inderdiction off our coasts to keep us free of the pernicious influence of drugs and to look for those who would do our nation harm. If one of these ships fires a 3 inch shot across the bow, pull the hell over becuase the next one will go wherever they want it to.

The most fun I ever had was the 3am boardings of Drug Vessels. We did our take overs in the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf. Those guys are crazy because they have been known to blow up their ship as the VBSS team makes their approach.

They;d find teh vessel crewless and teh crew floating or rowing madly away. The Latinos more laid back, I don’t recall him describing a blowing up the boat incident.
How bout that piracy issue? Proud enough of our guys so far?

made my last deployment fun. We spent 39 days off the coast doing counter ops. Doing things like that and VBSS are the things I miss the most. With the blowing up of vessels, that is mostly for the ships we take over in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. Getting an officer that looks out for the crew was the best. We only really had one Non-Mustang that looked out for us. He was out XO and he was from the west coast so they run everything with a party attitude.

He was also on Hue City for a short time but he loved The O’Sullivans the most, sparkling new beauty and great crew. He’s a mustang, up from Chief.
I have
mad respect for the Mustangs. Our last captain was one and he made the ship. Everything he did was for the crew, not for the officers.
