"Besides, you’d figure if there was anyone who would be comfortable with the concept of living in the past, it would be Alabama folks."

Why yes, Senator, living in the past is quite comfortable when this is the past you're living in.

I'm not against UGA

but they better hope Urban goes to ND after this season or it is going to be a while before they even get to another SEC Championship game. If they couldn’t win the East with the #1 NFL pick and an All American running back they have no hope now. Soon they will be the ones reliving the good old days of “Mark Richt the early years.” By the way, Saban is definitely starting to impact recruiting in Ga, where once Richt had his way. Plus, they get killed by GT in Johnson’s 1st year. They better look out or they could become irrelevant, see Auburn.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

I forgot...

When losing by 3 points to your rival is “getting killed”. Please enlighten me.

Seriously. They sucked in Athens and they sucked when they came to Tuscaloosa.

The worst things

about UGA fans (and I Iive in GA) are that: (1) They actually think UGA has the greatest football tradition in the South, (2) They actually think their school is the Yale of the South, (3) They are actually pretty ignorant as a group when it comes to the game of football. I mean your average UGA fan could not understand why they did not win the NC last year when they were on the cover of SI in preseason. Forget the fact that they lost their best O-lineman and the rest of their O-line was not very good (even when SI was picking them.) (4) They can be pretty obnoxious in general especially at YOUR PLACE if they win. Maybe even if they lose. (5) They assume they will land all the recruits they want because Mark Richt is such a great fellow.

I can tell you Spurrier hated them when he was at UF with just cause.

I

was really shocked when I heard about them vandalizing our championship flags at the top of BDS in ’07.

I'm sorry

If that’s true, then that’s absolutely deplorable and we as a fanbase don’t condone that kind of behavior.

Its amazing that ANY comment Saban makes . . .

ends up getting parsed and scrutinized by opposing fans and the press (and generally taken out of context). Saban is IN their heads — its like they can’t even sleep at night worrying about Saban and the Tide even in the off season. (I suppose it is true that Nick “The Chattahoochee Raider” Saban has given them a few additional things to worry about this off season since he has already plucked a few studs for next years recruiting class.)

LOL

Nick “The Chattahoochee Raider” Saban FTW!

Nice one, Wey!

“And he ‘thinks’ his players understand that? Holy Mother of Crap, I’m not believing this.”

I’m not sure I understand the outrage here. Then again, we all know that if Saban had said “I know my players understand” we’d be hearing about how he couldn’t possibly know what the players are thinking and he’s an ego-maniac to even suggest that he can.

The quality over at Blutarsky’s place has taken a serious nose-dive this off-season.

Dumb Dumb

I think he was implying that Alabama players didn’t know why Saban will be wearing an LSU shirt in the upcoming film until Saban explained it to them, as if they didn’t know he is a former LSU coach. That is self-evidently stupid.

What

great fooball past does UGA have besides 1980? Nothing spectacular jumps out in my mind other than a tradition of talented teams that underachieve.

I also

live in Georgia (lawrenceville in fact) and i actually find UGA fans to be decent. Sure they have their ignorant fans who think football in the south began with UGA but we have our fair share also. Athens is a lovely town and UGA is a good school but it isn’t any better than UA, AU, MSU, and especially not as good as Vandy.

All in all i get along with UGA fans. Perhaps its out equal hate for all things UF, UT and Auburn but i just can’t bring myself to hate them..i use to but not any more…

You must be joking...
“UGA is a good school but it isn’t any better than UA, AU, MSU, and especially not as good as Vandy.”

Not any better that AU or MSU? UGA is WORLDS better than them. And lumping those 2 with us and Vandy? What were you thinking?

I had no problem with UGA fans at the “Blackout”. I think it was because they were in such shock at how we were manhandling them. I had a few people say War Eagle to me like that was the worst they could come up with. I thought that was crazy since they hate the Barn too.

You had me at "ROLL TIDE"!!!

this is just fucking stupid...

first off – once again, saban makes a comment at a booster function directly to fans with questions about the team and it’s treated like he did it in a post game press conference. honestly, i’d be happier if they would just stop letting these events from being covered at all.

second – why the wailing and gnashing of teeth now when this point was already raised by the nattering nabobs of the blogosphpere when the movie was announced? (bama fans are dum! arp arp!!) we get it, saban coached at LSU and there’s some animosity there. but it’s not like we’re going back into time and changing it from happening in the first place while accidentally causing the destruction of planet vulcan.

build a bridge, people. we have.

lastly – wouldn’t it just be simpler for bloggers like this to write “i hate nick saban and believe all alabama fans are inbred yokels” at the end of every posts rather than wasting everyone’s time with this kind of nonsense?

A little sensitive, are we?

All my experiences with the Senator are that he uses sarcasm as a tool to make a point funny. I’m sure everyone is going to take swipes at me, but honestly to sit here and lament about how terrible UGA fans are is just hilarious. For the last time, no school’s fans has the right to accuse another one’s of being ignorant, redneck, uninformed, or stupid. EVERY SCHOOL IN THE SEC HAS THIS GROUP OF YOKELS. Yes, you ’Bama fans have your fair share of absolutely obnoxious morons that make you look terrible and yes, they do live in the past all the time. The difference between me and some of the posters here is that I will not lump all of you into that category because I acknowledge that every fanbase has its idiots.

in fairness...

…todd’s point has to do with the punditry on the blogosphere, not the fanbase as a whole.

by kleph on May 19, 2009 9:26 AM CDT up reply actions

I liked Todd's post...

…because he acknowledged that the Senator was making a sarcastic comment for humor’s sake and followed up with an equally sarcastic, humorous post. It’s not fair to draw on the Senator’s comments (which were made in jest and not serious, I assure you), as many that posted here have, and just lump in Georgia fans as arrogant, ignorant jerks when every single fanbase in the SEC has these same arrogant, ignorant jerks.

I’m trying not to come across as petty, but it just seems that there’s this paranoia around Alabama fans anytime someone makes a joke about their program that everyone just hates Alabama. And that’s not the case at all. I love the tradition and everything that ‘Bama has. What I don’t love is how insensitive its fans are to jokes and criticisms. It just reeks of Urban Meyer-esque “You’re either a Gator or you’re not a Gator”.

have you read wizard of odds lately? clay travis? mgo blog, perhaps? it’s not that any of this merry horseshit is new, it’s just seems more prevelant this year than most. and it’s not something we’re accustomed to on the senator’s site in particular.
