Your RBR Friday Random Ten

The iPod clearly senses my growing excitement at the impending Sonic Youth show at Sloss, rewarding me all week long with nuggets of noise and  capping this week's Random Ten with the most disturbingly sexy cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog ever.

Noisy, dirty, raunchy....this is why I had an unlikely crush on Kim Gordon as a 14 year old. Other unlikely objects of my youthful desire: Siouxsie Sioux and Chrissie Hynde. I was weird. Anyway, y'all know how to play. Put your iPod/Zune/whatever on shuffle and list the first ten songs that come up. No cheating to make yours look cooler, comer.

  1. Bill Monroe & His Bluegrass Boys - Shuckin' the Corn
  2. Santana - Oye Como Va
  3. The Vogues - My Special Angel
  4. Muddy Waters - I Want to Be Loved
  5. Merle Haggard - Peach Pickin' Time in Georgia
  6. Roger Miller - Husbands and Wives
  7. Led Zeppelin - The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair
  8. Johnny Cash - I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
  9. Eagles of Death Metal - The Ballad of Queen Bee and Baby Duck
  10. Sonic Youth - Freezer Burn/I Wanna Be Your Dog

kleph!

I haven’t heard Quadalcanal Diary in AGES! I don’t have ANY OF ‘EM on my iPod. Currently, I’m walking around my house, wet & wrapped up in a towel I keep trying to keep on my naked body- looking for the EP that has “Watusi Rodeo”. (isn’t it “orange-ish” with those weird looking African-mud people who look like the Burning Man dude?)

I can’t find it! I’m going MAD!

(the Doves are a pretty stellar band. Live? They’re incredible!)

That's f-ing RAD!

I loved it that the “related” links were for the Hoodoo Guru’s “Bittersweet” (we had a back and forth with this group and song a long while back, ’member?) and. . . . a video having to do with “Breastfeeding an 8 year old”. ??? FTW?

Delicious!

Nina . . . .and her . . . .

. . . . trademark “head snap”! (that crazy jerky move she’d do for no apparent reason at all?)

What was with that?

Man!

I wasn’t in on that Random 10, but your set of 10 songs (the dB’s, Replacements, Hoodoo, Quadalcanal, et al) THAT WAS AN INSANE SET!

Total blasts from the past. And some of the very best blasts at that! Shiiiiit, just incredible music.

The dB’s and Replacements are two of my favorites. I saw the Replacements at The Fillmore in SF. Needless to say. . . . .the place got thrashed!

Good luck with your car SD

I once got way-laid in Paducah, KY (fine state, Kentucky is. beautiful as all get out)- however, it was a Sunday and I ran out of Jack Daniels. Was with a girlfriend at the time, we were coming back from Athens, GA and decided to take “the long route” back home in NorCal.

Good thing: we went to Metropolis, IL to see Superman’s official home. (it sure didn’t have “Smallville”-lookin’ hotties. Matter of fact, there was like 6 churches on the way into that town. EVERYONE was in worship. We had our run of the town).

Hope Valentine is treating you kindly. Find Jack. He’s always my best friend away from home.
