The Snake Speaks
The Snake is headed back to Cali and the Contra Costa Times is there to give the man his proper due. The main story focuses on his connections with the Raiders in general (obviously) and his perspective on former-LSU standout Jamarcus Russell in particular. The paper also has a follow up with additional comments by the Snake on various topics including his take on the much reported DUI arrest (and aquittal) from last year.
And there's this interesting tidbit about where Stabler muses on his legacy when asked about his chances to make the NFL Hall of Fame:
"You think about it when it comes up. I've made every list you can make, down to the last dozen or eight. When you play with the teams I played with, when you play with great players around you, then you're going to make some noise, put up numbers, win games and be recognized. I'm OK with that. "
It's your world, Snake, we're just living in it.

There's not a whole lot to be proud of . . . .
. . . .in the recent tradition that is Raiders football. Raider Nation has practically hijacked my team since it moved down to LA and then back up to Oakland. They’re (the fans) are nothing close to the nation of Raider fans that I grew up with. Seriously, the tail-gaitin’ and Raider-organized off-season picnics were capital! Fun and fun-loving.
I’m so glad he’s found his home-away-from-home again. We love him to death. He IS the centerpiece of “all that is well” with Raider tradition. I love this man almost as much as I love Bear.
I’m also glad that he’s the spokesperson for the Raider 50th! And, I hear he’ll be at the Grand Marshall of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR race in June. I’m going now. (my mom lives in Napa so I’ll have a place to rest my drunken head that night)

Gotta Love the Snake
I am a huge Raider fan, as well as a loyal follower of the Tide. So Mr. Stabler is my connection to both, therefore he will always be my guy.
Got a dip in my stride, cuz you fear the tide.

That's my kinda guy!
Hey there MobileBayCityRoller! Sounds like there aren’t too many old-school Raider fans like we two. Most cats out here in the city of Lost Angels and ubiquitous un-ironic poseurs throughout the geography between us, talk about Howie Long, Rich Gannon, Marcus Allen, and Tom Flores.
I still call him Coach, John Madden. He’s got 3 football lives, to me. Coach, analyst/media celebrity, and video game freaking-titan! But then there Biletnikoff, Lester Hayes, Willie Brown, The Ghost, THendricks, Matusak, Sistrunk, Van Eeghen, Cliff Branch, and then those other badasses-Dalby, Upshaw, Rod Martin, Ray Guy, Chris Bahr, and Plunkett. My dad saw Raider games played at Kezar Stadium, which is this track & field stadium in the Upper-Haight district in San Francisco at Steiner, between Lincoln and Fulton- — and Haight St. (of Summer of Love ‘69 fame) starts at the entrance gate to Kezar. Lemme tell you, it’s not all that big. Not now at least. My dad talks about George Blanda, Jim Otto, Daryl Lamonica, Pete Banaszak, and those old Oaktown boys.
The Snake was the bombizzle to me. Those over-the-shoulder catches The Ghost caught from The Snake were sublime. Crazy lineup on both sides. And ruthless!
Coach Madden is also catchin’ the “down home” buzz in the Bay Area now that he’s officially retired from the broadcast booth. He’s settling somewhere in the burbs of the East Bay. His production company is headquartered there and apparently he’s coming into contacts with his old Raider buddies from way back. He’s publicly said he’ll be attending every single home game, Al Davis gave him his own permanent luxury suite fully catered and all. So he’s gonna keep himself busy along with Kenny up there in Northern California. Good luck and happy times to the both of ’em!
Damn, it’s good to be Coach! Hell, and you know what? It sure ain’t half-bad being Kenny Stabler either.
Kenny Stabler is in good hands in the Bay Area. He’s practically a deity. His presence in and around the Raiders again, will have people all nuts-goin’-crazy over there!
Sorry for this verbose trip down memory lane.
I’m retarded like that sometimes though.
Glad to meet you MobileBayCityRoller! (that’s quite a mouthful, if I do declare!).
I’m Bix. (and I write too much. very off-tangent too. out of sunflower seeds at the moment. losing perspective fast. . . . . . . . ?)

The Stabler Travesty
That Stabler is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a travesty.
He was a leader and a winner. He should be in Canton.
