Your RBR Word of the Day: senescent
senescent \si-NES-uhnt\, adjective:
Growing old; aging.
The City of Birmingham could make Legion Field, the site of some of the greatest moments in college football history, into something more than a senescent relic but "building a dome" is a better opportunity to rob it's citizens blind with tax hikes while not actually having to accomplish anything.

But if Birmingham had a dome
it could host the 2020 Olympics.
I'm gonna come at you like a spider monkey.
I
don’t have it front of me and I’m too lazy to look but someone did a really well-researched article on the viability of private investor financed stadiums and 100% tax payer funded ones. The Wash. Nats new stadium has a huge operating deficit and its only been around 2 years. And the promises of it creating a domino effect as far as new commerce around it, so far have been unfulfilled.

I use to love
going to Legion Field, it was what big time college football was all about. And the Iron Bowl when the stadium was 50/50 was unreal. Those games can not be duplicated.
But the atmosphere in T-town blows away anything Legion Field ever was or could have hoped to be.
Still, it is really sad to see what it has become.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
There is nothing that can be done to improve Legion
short of buldozing all the surrounding Gov’t housing and starting from scratch.
Perhaps if the city were to work with B’ham Southern and give tax breaks to people who would renovate/revive some of those great old houses that are there.
The area is dire need of re-development, that’s for sure.
I'm in no condition to drive...wait! I shouldn't listen to myself, I'm drunk.
Great!
Now Birmingham can get that pro team they’ve been talking about for the last, I don’t know, 40 years. When I lived in B’ham in the early 90s, we voted down a dome provision which promised the Minnesota Vikings if we just built the dome with our tax dollars. Now that it is apparently a go, I’m looking forward to the Birmingham Vikings coming soon!

I've
never lived in Bham but what is this intense preoccupation with trying to be like Atlanta? ATL has 4-5 times the population as Bham, I don’t get it.
