How is this disgusting? It seems that the recruit made a huge mistake with the sexual assault when he was younger and he has since changed his ways. I don’t think that mistake should be held over his head for the rest of his life.
I would tend to agree as a big believer in redemption. But at the same time after reading the details its hard to quibble with someone who isnt willing to grant a second chance under those circumstancess…
holly
does make a good point. particularly about running from the charges/going to school somewhere far away..
i remember that Mark Sanchez and Colt Brennan were both arrested for rape, during the college careers. so, sadly, it’s not like this is unprecidented (sp?). and in their cases, they were legally adults when their alleged crimes took place.
this was obviously just a very sick sad and tragic event. i think whats most important is that th evictims wishes are respected. and it looks like that is actually going on here, so if thats the case, then let him play….
i wouldn’t play with him though. i’d leave the damn team if i were UT player.
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...

Kids do the darndest things!
It’s amazing how this heinous crime is being called a ‘mistake’. At 13, getting caught smoking or maybe shoplifting could be considered a ’mistake. Even if he and the girl were caught messing around a little maybe.
But sexual assault with duct tape and a foreign object- a 13 year old mistake? Sounds like a psychopath to me. I’m not taking that kind of chance.
That was my first reaction as well....
I’m not one to give second chances to rapists, and I don’t care if the kid was 13 at the time, that’s still old enough to know that what you are doing is WRONG. But if the victim can find enough forgiveness in her heart to write a letter on his behalf to UT, then we should all just keep our noses in our own business on this one and have a little faith that some people actually can change.
I agree....
maybe the kid can change, but if he can do something that horrific at age 13 I just wonder what happens when he gets to college with alcohol and lots of girls. Hopefully he has changed, but if I was a college coach I don’t know that I would touch him with a 50ft. pole.

That's my worry too
My son is 18, and I’m sad to say has been sexually active for some time now (he lives with his mother, not with me). But, I can tell you for darn sure that when he was 13 he knew that duct taping his cousin to the bed and raping her with a toilet plunger was wrong! And, Hood knew what they were doing was sex because he refused to do the actual “plunging” because “she’s my cousin.”
I tell you one thing. If my daughter was old enough to go to college, even if I was a UT fan (EWWWWW!), there is no way on God’s green Earth I would let her go to UT with this kid there.
Dr. BamaFrazier is IN!
I'm gonna go with Spencer Hall on this.
Juvenile cases are kept confidential to allow the juvenile justice system to rehab the offenders and hopefully turn them into responsible, non-criminal citizens who may start over and go on to live productive adult lives — not to brand them as criminals for life….the only clear element to this is that Lane Kiffin is doing the correct thing in one sense: if you’re going to bring a player with a questionable past into the program, take every step you can to be completely transparent about it. Rather than fudge away at the details and demur, Kiffin is staking the very legitimacy of his program on his ability to judge the character of players as he sees them.
This kid screwed up big time. He has also served his time and appears to be doing his best to make amends for what he’s done. He appears to have become a model citizen to the point where even his victim is willing to vouch for him. Kiffin’s taking a risk for sure, but I don’t see this as an “all-time low”.
I cant believe this..shocked actually...
13 years old…If you can do something like this at 13, just think what he can do now?!?!!? Like others have said, this isn’t shop lifting or smoking. This is rape..This is a crime that is totally psychological… IMO the juvenile rule doesn’t apply here.
Now, Im a staunch Christian, in fact im a youth pastor and I certainly believe in forgiveness. The fact that this kid isn’t locked away in a insane asylum or worse, shows me that forgiveness has been given. But just because you are “forgiven” doesn’t mean you can go about your business as usual. There are consequences to actions and to me, allowing this kid to go to college and play football ON SCHOLARSHIP isn’t punishing him. Correct me if Im wrong but aren’t you ineligible for college admission if you are convicted of a felony in HS?Honestly though, Im not sure what the legal process was and I really don’t care. This is a sick person.
This is greater than a heinous crime. To me, rapist are the scum of the earth…lower than the dirt, that’s stuck to dung, which is stuck to the bottom of my shoe. Call it the father of a young girl in me but I say castrate him…in public…kidnap…Duct tape over 70% of her body…a foreign object used in the rape…it was his relative…Again this goes MUCH deeper than whats on the surface…This kid has major problems…
You can have him UT, he should fit in well and I hope to God he doesn’t do this to some girl while he is there…
Kiffin..i have lost the last bit of respect that i never had for you…
good day sir!

While I agree with you on some points,
I have to go with Todd and Rugman on this one. I despise rapists, but at 13 there is still time to change. It would be different if he was a bit older. Being a Christian does mean you have to believe in forgiveness and labeling him now as a sick person after a lot of people who have gotten to know him after/because of the act have vouched for him being a changed person is short sighted.
That being said, there is no way he should get a scholarship to play sports. That right should be forfeited. I have no problem with him changing and turning around his young life but he should not get rewarded to that degree.

Going to far with a girl after she
said no…being a little “over excited” is one thing (still terrible but at a young age, I can see it being a mistake)…kidnap+ duct tape + foreign object + relative shows mental instability in this person. 13 or 30..doesnt matter..
Like I said, he has been forgiven. The fact that they vouched for him shows a lot. But I agree whole heartily that he shouldn’t play sports…at least not on a scholly.

if you have a 4.0 GPA and are on FAFSA
but get nabbed for possesion of 1 gram of pot. say goodbye to your scholarship, and probably get suspended for the semester if not expelled…..
duct tape your cousin to a bed and participate in a gang rape of her, well welcome to the F-in team…..

There's a difference between an adult
who commits a crime and a juvenile. If he did this at 17 or 18 (maybe even 16) he wouldn’t be playing (in fact he’d probably be in jail). At 13?
Where was your mind at when you were 13?
At 13 i knew what rape was…what too far was…what right and wrong was…if at 13 you know you how to kid nap your relative, tie her down, duct tape her, and then rape her with a foreign object …then you got problems son and they go much farther than any of us know.

I'm not excusing what he did,
but isn’t the point of our juvenile justice system to rehabilitate offenders? Would you rather he just be tossed in jail for the rest of his life? He screwed up. He’s making amends. Why not give him the chance to prove that he’s a changed person?
he got his chance by
not going to prison like the other guy (his accomplice who was 17 got 10 years). Him being able to go to college…for free isn’t getting a 2nd chance…thats called getting away with it.

i really do think castration should be a penalty for child molestation/this type of assault.
if the guy who killed jessica lunsford had nothing at all left between his legs but a cathader to pee through, she would still be alive…

the kids own uncle or aunt
should have been allowed to shoot both of the guys once they’d been convicted…

i just think...
that this is something that you don’t just say, “you know…that was wrong and I’m sorry. I’m going to be a good person from now on.” There’s something inherently wrong with this guy. And even if the cousin forgave him and vouched for him, you can’t tell me that that girl is not going to be altered or be a different person because of what happened to her. She may never (or for a long time) be able to be intimate with other people and probably will have psychological issues.
Meanwhile. . . .
. . . .11 scholarship players have left the Vol football team since Lame became head coach. 4 since their Spring game.
It’s known that I don’t dig Coach Kiffin. Not one bit. And it’s also true I hope he gets his arse handed to him this year by all those that he’s wronged. Practically each and every SEC team out there.
But. . .gotta respect the hell out him for taking on this kid. I hope it all turns out for the best: for the Vol program and this kid’s life.
To be honest? This is the very first “almost-altruistic” thing I think I’ve ever heard Lame do. And I’ve known this guy (or about him) for practically 9 years.

If you think this kid should get a shot at a 2nd chance...
you might want to read this first….
The victim testified that she tried to “fight them off” but was
unsuccessful. She stated that the defendant and Sanico held her face down on the couch and, using
duct tape, tied her wrists together behind her back.
The defendant and Sanico then carried the victim to the defendant’s bedroom. She was
placed face down on one of the beds in the room. The victim testified that both the defendant and
Sanico continued to laugh. She stated that she began to kick them, and that, in response to this
kicking, “somebodygrabbed [her] legs and held them together.” Either the defendant or Sanico then
placed a strip of duct tape across the victim’s eyes. A piece of tape was next placed over her mouth.
The victim testified that she could no longer see or speak. Her ankles were then taped together. The victim stated that she felt two hands holding her ankles together while the other individual applied
the tape to her ankles.
The victim was then turned over onto her back. Her shirt and bra were pulled up, exposing
her breasts. The majority of her upper body was then covered with duct tape. Next, the victim’s
shorts and underwear were pulled down. Tape was placed over her lower body, including her
vaginal area. The victim stated that she was nervous, and that the defendant and Sanico were still
laughing.
The victim next testified to hearing Sanico tell the defendant to get a toilet plunger and
cellophane. The defendant retrieved a plunger from the bathroom connected to his bedroom. The
victim then heard the door to the defendant’s bedroom open and shut. At this point, either the
defendant or Sanico exited the bedroom and retrieved the cellophane from the kitchen. The duct tape
that was tying her ankles together was then removed. The victim testified that she began to kick.
In the struggle, she was flipped back onto her stomach, face down. She testified that the defendant
and Sanico restrained her legs. Her legs were then pulled apart, and each ankle was taped to the side
of the bed frame.
Collins, who had finished taking her shower by this time, knocked on the door to the
defendant’s bedroom. According to the victim, some sort of cover or blanket was thrown over her
body. The defendant opened the door. Collins asked the defendant for the password to the computer
in the kitchen/living room area. The defendant told Collins the password and closed the door.
Collins testified that she did not see the victim at that time.
The cover or blanket was then taken off of the victim. Sanico inserted the handle of the
plunger, which had been wrapped in the cellophane, inside the victim’s vagina. Sanico asked the
defendant if he wanted to do it himself. The defendant answered, “No, man, that’s my cousin.”
After the plunger was taken out of the victim’s vagina, a liquid was poured onto her body.
According to the victim’s testimony, the defendant and Sanico stated that the liquid was Sanico’s
urine. Later testimony would suggest that the liquid was actually Kool Aid.
The defendant later cut the tape from the victim’s wrists. The victim immediately removed
the tape from her eyes and mouth. The victim next cut the tape that was restraining her ankles to the
bed. She testified that the defendant and Sanico began watching television as if nothing had
occurred. The victim walked out of the defendant’s bedroom with 70% of her body covered in duct
tape. She encountered Collins and asked Collins to retrieve her clothes from the defendant’s
bedroom. The victim then called a friend and asked the friend to pick her up. The friend arrived
about five minutes later and took her to the hospital.
This is a sick and twisted kid….great job Kiffin…you just put every young girl at UT in harms way…

Apart from being disrespectful, which I hope we won’t go or get to. I think you know what “right” and what’s “wrong”. We all do here.
I respect you enough to WANT TO read what you have to say. I dig your show.
Not this time.

Wow. This thread went down hill quickly
And to reconsider my thoughts from my first post on this matter, after a week of thinking of this subject and reading the full story (which I didn’t the first time, just saw rape and made my judgement) I reconsider that this guy probably shouldn’t be playing sports at a major university.
