The RBR Friday (Not So) Random Ten...
Ladies, this week's beefcake comes via Vince Herman.
And if "bearded" is your particular cup of sexy, he's happy to oblige you there as well.
If the most dangerous thing in the world truly is a motivated hippie, then what better way to de-motivate and distract than ten songs from some of Colorado's finest. Ralphie Report's twitter feed going black in three, two, one....
And of course, a reminder to get on that Twitter and help us win this whole SBN 5K deal. That's an award we can actually be proud of.

I was in college during the jam band days. Of course WSP and Phish were the two biggies, but I also got to see a lot of great bands that never really got over the hump. I remember thinking SCI was ripping off the Leftover thing. I also remember paying about $3 to see SCI and I think they were touring in an old school bus (or was that Leftover). A friend told me he saw SCI play at Red Rocks in about 2001 and I asked who they opened for and he said, no man they were the show. Since I work at a university (soon to be UA) I have a bit of a feel for what kids listen to and jam bands are not on their radar.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

Youtube, huh?
I can run with that. Here’s a random ten culled from “Stump the Band” portion of Bruce Springsteen’s current (and some from last year’s) tour. This is where the audience challenges the E Street Band to play some obscure cover in hopes they can stump E Street (They never do).Do yourself a Favor and watch these, kiddies. (Todd if you can make these into a pretty collage like you did with yours go for it. They don’t teach us ’bout computers at the University of Memphis, though we are saving up for a Commodore 64)

Anyone remember the SCI show at Riverside Ampitheater (which I hear are now dorms) 97’ish or Leftover @ the Bama Theater in 98 or 99?
SCI at Riverside Amp.
I was there. It was 10.2.99. I recall the band ill-advisedly playing Rocky Top during the 2nd set. Great show otherwise.
I was at LoS at the Bama (99 I think)...
…North Mississippi All Stars opened for them and I remember thinking “these guys suck, they should just be a ZZ Top cover band….”
I also recall a LoS show....
….at whatever the Ivory Tusk was after it stopped being the Tusk (Varsity something?) when Karl Denson opened, not because it was all that great of a show, but because it was the first and last time I drank Rolling Rock (stuff tastes like dirty dishwater someone pissed in).
I think you're talking about the Varsity Music Hall
I attended a LOS show there on Valentine’s Day ’97. But I think the Tusk was still around then. This venue was at the end of the strip closest to downtown, previously called “College Station Theater” and before that “The Pitcher Show”.
No, this was later than 97, and it was right before the season started, not Valentine's...
I may have the name wrong, but it was definitely the Tusk under a different name.

Luckily for the band...
the Tide had beaten Florida in the Swamp earlier that day and the crowd has in good spirits.
UC students hippies?
I will admit that I am a short haired sell out of a hippie. In college (W&L), I rarely showered and lived in a country house tucked away at top of a spur ridge in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We had no air conditioning (and no water when the well froze) and used one wood burning stove to heat a 5 bedroom house. We grew our own, chopped wood after class and watched turkey, deer and fox roam through the front yard while watching the sunset over the Blue Ridge. I logged 50+ Dead/Jerry Band shows over the years.
I spent a summer living on campus at CU in boulder. I was shocked that most of the students were the complete opposite of hippies! They bathed regularly, had short hair, listened to bad music and were really “jockish.” The girls were much crunchier than the guys. We found lots of kindred spirits living in Boulder, but the CU students mostly sucked.
We did have a group of hippies who came to town for the Dead show in Denver and set up camp in the childrens playground across the street. When the Dead left, these people stayed for weekstill the cops got ’em.
Don’t dignify CU with the hippie label, found alot more of them at U of Oregon during the 1990 Dead shows on campus.
"Crunchier" ?????
Must have been all that granola.
Granola-girls are yar! Love ’dem armpits too!
