A Recruiting Tidbit & An NCAA Thought

There is some pretty big news breaking on the recruiting trails this afternoon. DeMarcus Milliner, the cornerback prospect out of Milbrook, Alabama, will be announcing his collegiate decision Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Milliner is a five-star prospect with both Rivals and Scout.com, and both recruiting services have him as the number one cornerback prospect in the country. Milliner is widely considered the top prep prospect in the state of Alabama, and his head coach is Jeff Foshee, a member of Alabama's 1992 national championship team. It is widely and almost unanimously expected that Milliner will commit to Alabama.

So, that's obviously very good news for the Tide. And, furthermore, it really says a lot (hopefully) about the NCAA situation. We all expect a ruling this week, but I wouldn't think it's going to be tomorrow with FSU's appeal results supposedly being announced then. My guess would say it happens sometime Wednesday through Friday. Anyway, at any rate, hopefully things bode well. At the very least, recruits don't seem to be worried about it, that's for sure. Obviously they are well aware of the NCAA situation, and even so we're still killing on the recruiting trails. We were doing extremely well anyway, and now we should be getting a commitment from an elite prospect almost at the same time that the sanctions will be announced. Hopefully things will go well when we get the final word from the NCAA, but one way or the other, recruits obviously think it's no big deal.

ed- some info and a youtube on young mr. milliner.

I second that amen...

and really don’t see a couple of scholly losses that big of a deal to us.

By the way Kleph, are you related to Dr. Schexnayder on the MS Gulf Coast? Just curious, he lives in my neighborhood.

you don’t have to go too far back to find that all of us schexnayder’s are related (particularly if it’s the same spelling). but i am not personally familiar with this gentleman, no.

It's the coach.

His offense (which will continue to keep getting better and better with the recruiting classes – hello Julio – and McElwain at the helm) and his defense (hardly anyone better in the business than Coach Nick Saban, with the right personnel AND depth).

I mean, if you’re from the South- you’ve gotta be:

1. totally off your rocker in the first place
2. a hater . . . or
3. not all that good in the first place

to NOT go to Alabama when Coach Saban recruits you. Penalties and sanctions be damned.

Seriously folks, if a high-school player wants to eventually play on Sundays- the way to go is through Coach Saban. He’s not only got the contacts, but he has THE VERY EAR of many scouts, GM’s, and coaches in the NFL. Something unUrban oscarMeyer, Les “The Meaux-ron” Miles, Mark “but my defense?” Richt, and Lame “have you seen my wife?” Kitten DON’T QUITE HAVE.

btw: I love the fact that young Mr. Milliner is about to choose ‘Bama. those Barners sure look like they put some “oomph” into this recruiting video. didn’t those those cattle-herders even listened to music. thought they just listened to those little voices in their head that still talk to them about 2003? who’da thunk?. . . .another btw: crunk just sucks the cowbells. is that really music? figures. it’s a barner vid.

crunk isn't music, really...

it’s just a feeling of being really excited…
for a couple years, Lil Jon and his team created music that was labeled “crunk” because when you’re in the club and have some liquor in you, it made you get…CRUNK!

enjoy...

I gotta get myself crunked then

That’s prolly the only thing I haven’t been (at least once or twice, and that’s strange ‘cause- I’ll always try something at least three times. that way, I know I really don’t like it).

No offense taken

I’ll take that as a total compliment. I’m not necessarily hyper or what not, it would definitely go against most all tenets of my profession (think: microscopes, diagnostics, chemicals, monitors, refrigerators, monitors and bigass “Lache Seastrunk” glasses! that’s me).

And I’m not always drinking. I just seem to always be. (haven’t played ye-yo in a loooooong time. shit’s bad for you, you know? ;- )

Yup yup!

(my dad wrote in my baby book that I had such cross-eyed bodunk eyes that I could sit on the front porch in my high chair and tell everyone what’s going on in the back yard. he said I had such buck-teeth that I could eat an apple between the boards of a picket fence. my pops? he thinks he’s funny. what’s so funny is back in his day- he was a Socialist. you can’t be anymore of a Reagan-Republican than my Pops right now. and that’s funny!)

Your dad

sounds a lot like me. Back in my teenage angst days, I couldn’t have been more left wing. But after much education, I realized that my angst was directed in the right places, but the “cure for the disease” was misguided.

There's a quote, I'm not sure who/where it's from

My AP History teacher in high school said it once, it goes- “A liberal is someone whose interests aren’t at stake, at the moment.”

I was never too liberal, I have some tendencies to this day. I’ve always been more of a Libertarian. You sound like someone I can hang out with bens. Love your comments over on the political thread that BRO7 had, and a few other ones that were put up by you this past Spring.

I

voted Libertarian in the last two elections and used to be somewhat active in the LP of Alabama. I was inspired by the essays of Joseph Stromberg (who ironically was a contributor on antiwar.com) who hails from the Von Mises Institute. His vast knowledge of world history, economics and government policy and how he tied it all into political thought floored me. He wrote one essay on how Che Guavera “had it right” concerning guerrilla warefare (decentralized, localized decision making) in fighting a socialist revolution. But he somehow “missed it” when it came to running the country afterwards using the socialist model of centralized, planned economies by intellectuals with a social consciense. Anyway I’m rambling… if you go to lewrockwell.com they have the Stromberg Archives, I recomend giving his writings a glance if you have the time.

Bix......you Libertarian......Ben.. you intellectual Libertarian...

Good to see both of your writings again, I have missed it while on my journey. Give me a Libertarian, and I’ll give you a man who can make a country work.
