San Jose State on the 2010 Schedule
Officials with San Jose State University have announced that the school's football team will travel to Tuscaloosa next year to face the Crimson Tide rather than a previously scheduled contest against Stanford. According to the San Jose Mercury News, San Jose State will collect $1 million for playing Alabama - five times what they would have gotten for their game with the Cardinal which has been rescheduled for 2014.
ed- kleph beat me to this, but I wanted to note that even though we'll be opening at home against a mid-major cupcake instead of a high profile national game at a neutral site like 2008 and 2009, we do play Penn State at home in 2010 and also play at Duke.

Dick Tomey's San Jose State Spartans!
alright. this is exciting! screw penn state and georgia tech, who needs em?
a brief breakdown of the 2010 SJSU squad.
They should be breaking in a new QB after losing 2 year starter and former Cal transfer Kyle reed. Jordan La Secla looks to be the early favorite for starting QB heading into 2010, Jordan has seen game action under center in 07’ and 08 and thus far, has a 48% completion rate.
the O line should all be back as they project to have all Sophs and Jr’s starting on the O line this year.
they have a jr HT JUCO coming in this year at RB and he may be there next year.
on D, they project to have all Sr’s on the D line this year and the same goes for most of the LB corps. So they may be soft early on in the front 7 next season
the secondary this year looks like the O line, full of Soph’s and Jr’s, so the unit next season should be experienced.
Dick Tomey took over in 05, and took the team to a bowl the next year. Phil Steele is calling for a bowl this year. i’d say all in all, what looked to be like a snoozer might actually be a decent game, and one that might not hurt us too much in strength of schedule in case that winds up being important… so, if they cant all be georgia tech or penn state, i guess i’ll take the 2010 SJSU squad…
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...
I like that analysis...
It completely defeats my ignorant post below. Man, I should just go write at TET.

This is going to be reminiscent of...
Hawaii a few years back for us (No, not that far back, come back a little). A team with mediocre talent and nothing to lose is a dangerous team (Also see Duke ‘06, the same year as Hawaii). The stops will pulled, and trick plays may be plentiful, as though Houston Nutt were on the sidelines for the Spartans. Also remember that this will be the first game after a likely-to-be much hyped off season for the Tide. If the guard is low, and the 2000 attitude sets in ever so slightly (Dubose v. Saban, don’t think it’s gonna happen) we may be in for a bumpy ride (also see Oklahoma ’05)

Hawai'i didn't have any trick plays
they just ran that damn shovel pass all night long. That was so frustrating to watch.
I think
That the Duke comparison is accurate, but not Hawaii. The Rainbow Warriors had a very solid team that year, coupled with June Jones’ dangerous passing attack. I also think that Saban and these group of players won’t let that happen. Also, upsets like this tend to occur when the favored team shows little to no enthusiasm( cough Sugar Bowl cough), and since it is going to be the first game of the year I think that our team will be pumped.

Nice stuff...
… we’ll start off with a creampuff, and then we’ll have the “real” season opener the following week against Penn State. That will be the first big-time game of the 2010 season.

I
can’t wait until that game. I see us being picked by a few to contend for the NC in ’10, the stadium expansion being complete and the history of Alabama vs. Penn State. I only hope Paterno will still be coaching.

He's got the contract for it...
so only the Reaper can stop him from not being there…
(Okay, is there anyone not singing “Don’t Fear the Reaper” in their head?)

Snatched the Reaper’s scythe, then made that lanky waif bastard run stadiums all night.
