Fans Wait in Line 3 hrs to Meet John Parker Wilson

Jpwpress_medium

Former Crimson Tide QB John Parker Wilson was met by approximately 1,500 fans - some of whom waited in line three hours - during an appearance at  the Dillard's in Decatur Mall on Saturday.  He signed autographs for $5 each with the proceeds going to the Morgan-Lawrence chapter of the American Red Cross. Wilson was back in Alabama after completing a series of OTA (organized team activities) with the Atlanta Falcons who signed him as an undrafted free agent in April.

If these fans had just played D-Line for an SEC school a few seasons ago they’d have gotten to meet him a LOT.

What the crap...

They act like this guy is David Hasselhoff or something…

And believe me, JP is no David Hasselhoff…

I think

it had more to do with the heat and the fact that the Dillards is air conditioned than anything else.

so the kid makes an effort to use what celebrity he has in order to raise funds for a local charity and you think that’s an opportunity to take cheap shots at the region and his appearance.

you stay classy, barner.

Are you serious?

someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I apologize for the rosacea comment if it offended anyone. Maybe it was a little much. I’m sure if I was a bama fan you wouldn’t have cared, but go figure. As for offending the region I don’t even know how I could have done that. It’s great he is helping charity. I hope you are feeling better tomorrow because today you are being a bit of a sensitive sally..

you come to our site and talk shit about our players trying to do something worth a damn and then act offended when someone calls you on it? impressive even by barner standards.

the red cross of Morgan-Lawrence is about $100,000 in the hole due to lagging donations. if the numbers on this event are correct, JPW raised at least $7,500 in this one event – that goes a long way for… say, a family who have lost their house in an accidental fire. so yeah, making fun of these people for being too poor to afford air conditioning and laughing at the kids completion seem pretty asinine.

or, to put it a different way. your turd of an ex-coach was a complete ass by flashing the seven-finger sign while on a tour of us bases in the middle east. and he was rightly roasted for it. but i defy you to find one person on this site that criticized him for going over there and doing a bit to help out the guys who serve our country.

so why don’t you grow a thicker skin or just head back to the kiddie table of SB Nation at TeT until you learn some manners?

by kleph on Jun 22, 2009 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

WHAT?

This is bullshit. I make a joke about JPW’s f’ing appearance and since I am an AU fan I am making fun of poor people and people who help charities? That is some crazy logic.

I know you live outside the US so let me make this clear. IT HAS BEEN HOT AS SHIT IN ALABAMA. The joke was “who the hell wants to see JPW? They must’vebeen there for the AC” No comment about them being poor. You made that inference so take a look in the mirror.

I made no comment poking fun at the charity or the idea of helping others, just JPW, so i don’t even know what your Tubs thing has to do with it.. For the record I think it is great he helped raise some cash for some folks in need.

You guys can jump all over me for this i don’t give a shit, but kleph you have your head up your ass on this one. IT WAS A JOKE. Ban me if you like, kleph.

kleph...

I am the LAST one to ever defend a Barner, but I really think you overreacted here. He was out of line with the “rosacea” bit, but you were reaching with reading “making fun of the poor” into what he said or that he was denigrating the American Red Cross.

The John Mark Stallings reference was uncalled for IMO and their former coach showing his a$$ didn’t have anything to do with this either.

my issue here isn’t so much this specific item but the fact this nonsense seems to have become prevalent in the comments of most threads. it’s less being angry over a particular comment than fed up with what seems to have become common practice.

every time we post something about a player or coach, it isn’t necessarily an invitation for ridicule. there are plenty of things worthy of mocking in the realm of sports but i have a hard time seeing how someone making a concentrated good faith effort to do some good in his home state qualifies.

i’m not a fan of the current fashion on internet fan sites that nothing is sacred and everything must be treated with scorn and derision. boasting about one’s propensity for issuing dick jokes and posting half-naked women all over the site is the opposite of classy.

i have always appreciated RBR because it never stooped to such nonsense and since being made a writer for the site i’ve tried to uphold that standard.

if barners think our players are so ridiculous that they must make fun of them for any thing they do… well, they have their own cesspool of a site to do it on.

I totally understand where you're coming from...

…and absolutely agree with all your above comments about internet fan sites. I just didn’t know the ones to Gump were actually reaction comments to a bigger problem. I’ve been to your own web site and love your writing. Don’t change a thing.

I think the joke about ...

…Bama Bangs was quite humorous. Anyone ever notice that JPW was very concerned about his hair? I never saw anyone fix their hair or push their bangs forward as much as he did….

Sometimes less than a second after removing helmet. Funny stuff.

JPW= Bama Bangs-Thumbs down! JPW=Toughness and great leader-Thumbs Up!

actually pretty envious of Bama Bangs. Wish I could grow them!

BTW

“There were SEC guys on both teams,” Tuberville told The Birmingham News at the Southeastern Conference meetings Tuesday. “They said, ‘Hold up seven fingers, coach.’ Anything to get a laugh.”

The gesture might have drawn the ire of some Crimson Tide fans, but not all of them.

“One guy said, ’I’m an Alabama guy, but go ahead and put up seven anyway. Doesn’t make any difference,”’ Tuberville said. taken from here

I

was always of the mind that if we don’t like Tubbs holding up fingers, we should do something to stop it. Like say… beating Auburn. And guess what? It worked. I haven’t heard any reports of him holding up fingers since Nov. 2008.

He just held up one around December

it was the middle one and it was pointed at Jay Jacobs on his way out.

I thought it was pretty accurate (and funny), Mr. Gumptown...

You guys can crucify me for that later.

After spending seven wondrous years in the state of Alabama, never in my life have I seen fans, who claim to be loyal to one team, spend more time AUbsessing over the other more so than they do their very own.

AS the mother of a beautiful 15 year old girl

who has a zillion beautiful teen aged girl friends, I immediately guessed that 95% of the waiters-in-line were teen aged girls. They all have his pictures on bulletin boards in their bedrooms. They argue over whether JPW or Brodie is finer.

A friend who works for UA told me that they had a cheeerleader camp of 500 cheerleader girls and they caught sight of JPW and he had a worse sacking than he ever did on the field. The kid is a good looking guy and has lots of girl fans, in addition to apparently being nice enough to spend his day raising money for charity—deal with it, Barners.
