Saban, UA Negotiating Contract Extension
Not a lot of details but the Birmingham News is reporting via "sources familiar with the negotiations" that Coach Saban and the university have begun contract talks "centered more on increasing the length of Saban's contract than on giving him a large raise."

This is great to quell the naysayers. Does anyone know CNS’s history with contract extensions?

A contract extension is superflous as far as keeping Saban.....
because his contract does not have a buyout. Whether he would want to leave is another story.
The claim that Saban is an innate nomad is without merit. He has never made a lateral move in his career. Alabama will give him whatever he wants and he has nothing to gain by leaving for another college program.

The only thing people in that position have to gain is additional challenges.
It’s like Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid. What’s he really have to gain (besides some money)? At Manchester United he was World Footballer of the Year, won the Champions’ League, won the League title, etc. It’s just a change of scenery and a new challenge. It’s the same reason Urban Meyer could leave Florida at some point. It’s not going to get much better for him, but he’ll probably want a new challenge.

I like It!
It will go along way if he takes an extension and doesn’t ask for tons of money.

You can click
on the screen name of the individual to see what team they actually pull for. Sometimes that helps distinguish sarcasm from ill wishes. Good enthusiasm, though.

I got a kick out of the Auburn Information Minister’s whiny post today about Saban being overpaid.
The post is completely void of any sort of serious analysis (no, I’m not surprised) and ignores two key facts:
1. Alabama’s ticket prices have only increased very slightly over the course of Saban’s time here and
2. Since Saban arrived, annual Athletic Dept. revenue has increased by an amount significantly more than his salary. This leads to one inescapable fact that would really shoot down Jay’s whole article if he cared one iota about facts:
Saban, despite his high salary, was an outstanding investment for Alabama, regardless of (maybe BECAUSE of) what the rest of the economy is doing.
I’m pretty sure if tomorrow, as if by magic, Alabama and Auburn ended their rivalry became close allies, Jay would start cheering for Tennessee just so he could continue to hate Alabama. It’s kinda cute, really.
Before I go any further, this is not a Saban bashing article and I’m not solely going after Alabama.
Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
