City Stages may be terminal, but Bottletree will be Terminally Happy
Long story short, City Stages hired the Bottletree to provide food for the entertainers at this year's festival, and have since stiffed them on half the bill, making things a little dicey for one of Birmingham's best restaurants and live music venues. Here's the deal:
"The result is something called Bottletree Bailout. Andre had previously decided to call for a Terminally Happy Hour on Thursday (see Andre’s post here), though he hadn’t announced it yet. We’re also asking that you start your Independence Day weekend right by having lunch at Bottletree on Friday. So please join us for drinks or dinner on Thursday, July 2 after 4 p.m. and join us after 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3 for lunch. Bottletree has been notified of the event and can handle the crowd."
Do your part people.

Sucks City Stages was cancelled
but that guy really didn’t know how to run an event, even after so many years. They couldn’t schedule it right, ended up being too hot or rained out or both. Should move it to the fall like Big Spring Jam in Huntsville; that event is much better than CS and always packed.
Also sucks for the bottlletree. I will try to make it out Friday afternoon for a late lunch. Thanks for the info, I really like that place.

He knew how to run an event...
….like the mayor and city council know how to run a city…..stuff as much cash as you can in your own pockets and bleed the damn thing dry for as long as possible, then blame someone else.
No joke
I am glad I live in Helena now (Shelby) and out of Jefferson county, although that is my home and always will be. It is a shame what the commission, city council, and Mayor dumbass are doing to Birmingham; it’s like the Arrington days all over again, but with more incompetency. Seriously, hundreds of millions of dollars in debt over the sewer fiasco, and he is still trying to get a dome built? Good Lord.
The heartbreaking part of the state of the city/county is what Birmingham should be versus what Birmingham has become.

And
yet, Langford continues to blame white people for moving out and taking their taxes, restaurants and retail shops with them.

Yeah...
…that would never happen.

Its
happening, but the cause is blaming the symptom.

Langford,...
…‘the cause’, has only been mayor for a couple of years, while we’ve been suffering from ‘the symptom’ for roughly my entire life. I’m not throwing stones here, since I’m actually part of ‘the symptom’ now, but just because the guy is a nut doesn’t mean everything he says is false.

True
and its happening in many other cities, including Mobile. The term “cause” was meant to define Birmingham in general, more specifically the school system. I didn’t necessarily mean Langford himself.

The...
…original cause of white people moving out of Birmingham, more specifically the school system, was that many of them didn’t want their kids to go to school with (gasp) black children (yikes!). It’s the same reason so many ‘Academies’ cropped up around the South in the late 60s and early 70s.
Depleted of much of their resources, cities (and school systems) like Birmingham naturally deteriorated, which leaves our generation continuing to either flee to the suburbs, enroll our kids in private schools, or throw our kids in the deep end of the pool with heavy weights and pray they can swim to safety.
Until the entire system is restructured, education in the USA will continue to fail.

BTW I am going Friday
and bringing some guys from work. If anyone else is going, let me know.

I'm going to try and make it for lunch...
…on Friday, so I’ll let you know when I’m headed that way.
Sounds good
I was actually going to come around 4ish, but our boss just told us to take a half day Friday. I plan on being there around 1 or so.

Sucks...
…that they’re attempting this on a holiday weekend when a lot of people will be going out of town.
May be possible
that the amount they got stiffed is potentially crippling, and they need funds asap. Probably not ideal, but at the same time you have a lot of people such as myself getting off early on Friday that normally wouldn’t.
