Sources have indicated that junior linebacker Charlie Higgenbotham has started exploring potential options at smaller programs, and former St. Paul's running back Ivan Matchett appears destined to go on medical scholarship for an undisclosed condition.

Then you haven't been reading the right stuff. ;)

Everyone whose scholarship isn’t getting renewed has known that for over two weeks.
In other words: Alabama (and all other schools) are already under the 85-scholarship limit. Under the Bylaws, the school is permitted to reconsider non-renewals and award extra scholarships going forward, but they are only allowed to cancel those scholarships for very specific reasons (all of which are outlined in 15.3.4). Those reasons include: fraud, serious misconduct, and voluntary withdrawal (but in the case of voluntary withdrawal, the scholarship cannot be given to another player).

I blame only myself for not being smart enough to get all my info straight from rollbamaroll. This will not happen again. Thanks for clearing that up.

Higgenbotham
I really thought he was already off the team. I literally was looking over the roster in my Phil Steele magazine, saw his name and thought he is no longer on the team is he?
I think I read somewhere today that the roster has to be set by August 5th when the team gets back together. It looks like there will at least be some news for the next two weeks before the roster gets set.
You may have been...
…thinking of the other LB named Charlie…Charlie Kirschman. Higgenbotham is a bigger loss than Kirschman, but just a little, since as others have already noted, we’re deep as doggie-doo at LB (which still sounds strange after last year’s “OMG, a sophomore and three new starters? What’ll we do?”).

Speaking of Phil Steele's magazine and Alabama transfers..
He has projected former Alabama QB transfer Nick Fanuzzi to be the starter for Rice this year. Their first opponent? UAB at Legion Field.

Them's...
…fighting words. So long as it doesn’t interfere with the Va. Tech game, I will be there rooting for the Blazers.

Matchett...
I really do no know what the deal with him was / is. To the best of my knowledge, he never had any serious injuries in high school, and he has not been injured to date at Alabama.
Hopefully it’s nothing overly serious with him. Sometimes these kids go on medical scholarship with some serious, non-football related injuries. Hopefully he is okay.
As for Higgenbotham, it’s no real surprise. He’s a good kid to have around, and he worked well as an inside linebacker in the 3-4, but he kept sliding further and further down the depth chart. I imagine he’s probably fourth on the inside linebacker depth chart, and he’s really not looking at any meaningful playing time. I certainly could not blame him for exploring other options.

I've gotta ask...
do you keep files on all these players, or is your memory just that good?

We keep him chained to a desk...

The rumblings...
… going around on Matchett are that it is some kind of back injury. I have no clue if that is accurate or not, but that’s the rumor right now.

I read somewhere that Matchett’s back was injured. I really hope he isn’t out for good. I’ve been looking forward to seeing him play since I saw THIS.

Matchett
I was looking forward to watching him play. Man, this is bad news. I hope he is ok. I know we aren’t thin at Running Back, but its starting to feel it. if Preyear hangs around and Lacy makes its in I will feel better about this position.
