Will Julio Add "Rushing" Yards to His Impressive Stat Line?
Don't go crazy or anything, but kleph found this in the rolltide.com photo galleries:
Yes, that is Julio taking a hand off from McElroy. Without context there's no way to really gauge what is actually going on here. For example, is Julio lining up in the backfield, or is this a Jet Sweep? Either way, it's one more way to utilize Julio and one more way to confound defenses. Love it.

Just letting this picture
out causes other teams to consider the possibility thus causing them more things they have to prepare to defend etc. So that is a good thing.
I would guess that Julio may run a flanker reverse once this year. I think the flanker screen is a much better way to get him the ball to let him run etc. We used the flanker screen some last year, we may use it more this year. Anytime we can get Julio the ball that is a good thing.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Well
i certainly hope he isn’t lining up at tailback or something like that. leave the trickeration to Houston Nutt i say.
he was injured. injured bad.
That's frightening..
… I mean if I played defense..

No gloves?
Wonder why he is not wearing his gloves?
If that is upchurch in the background he looks thicker.
I'll take a stab
It looks very unlikely that it would be a jet sweep. McElroy has his back turned to the defense, which is not something done with a jet sweep.
That doesn’t mean that Jones was lined up at tailback, as it could be an end around. In fact, that’s where I’d put my money if I had to bet.

You're right...
…with McElroy’s back turned it is more likely an end around than a sweep, unless it’s some sort of option read where the receiver motions into the backfield and the QB can either hand of to the RB going to the left (at least in this picture) or turn and give it to the receiver. End around is probably the answer though
He did last year...
… on kick-off returns.

I think Saban is missing the boat
Work on Julio’s squats and line him up in the back field. He’s already been known to carry 4-5 defenders down the field. If we can up that number to 8-10 he’ll be rattling off 40 yards a carry. Just let him pick everyone up and trot off down the field.
Rick Upchurch #5
looks like a beast in the background. I’m glad we got him from the Broncos.
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.
Again, I'd like to commend Saban and the front office
for acquiring Rick Upchurch. Not many college teams can claim to have a 1979 record breaker on their current roster. Kudos to Nick and the GM.

the other thing about this picture...
…is how julio looks to be in absolute velociraptor-level condition. i didn’t think it was possible for a human to be in better shape than he looked last year but… dayumm…
yeah compare
Julio’s arms to GMac’s…

I can't wait till...
the tennessee game when the irresistible force (julio jones) meets the immovable object (eric berry)… there could be a repeat of the big bang.
so easy... even an Auburn fan can do it!
Although anytime Julio touches the ball...
I’m expecting a TD, I kinda hope he don’t run from the backfield.. If something bad were to happen, we’d become VERY one dimensional! But, It would be VERY interesting!!
I will not question Bruce Eien
b/c that man is a brilliant coach.
However, the Fly series he shows in that video shows issues with the mesh point. You want the tailback mesh to be before the Flyback mesh, so it is almost like the QB is doing a full spin, and there are three different possible ballhandlers on the play.
As for McElroy, if he was doing a full or half-spin, which would be necessitated by a read and fake to the TB, his back would be to the defense.
