Barrett Jones Still at RG

Jones_still_at_rg_cap_medium

According to this tweet from Gentry Estes Barrett Jones is still working with the first "administrative grouping" at RG, a fact made all the more intriguing considering he is only the latest in a long line of candidates to attempt to fill Marlon Davis's shoes. Brian Motley, Chance Warmack, John Michael Boswell, and Alfred McCullough have all worked there during spring and fall camp, yet Jones only recently started getting some real snaps there with the first unit and, more importantly, worked there during the team's first scrimmage and is now continuing to work there after the staff evaluated the footage on Sunday. This certainly speaks well for him, and hopefully we're now that much closer to finding our starting o-line.

What does...

…he weigh now? Last I checked, he was still a good 15 pounds lighter than the other RG contenders. I know it’s not the only basis for success, but the size of the guys on the line is usually pretty crucial.

What they are listed as...

…and what they actually weigh are generally two different numbers. A lot of it will have to do with what he was able to accomplish in the S&C program over the summer and exactly when their “weight” was taken for the official roster.

A little off subject but

what are the possibilities of Fluker getting worked in and at what position? Even though he’s only a freshman, he just seems too talented, too huge, and too athletic to waste any of his years of eligibility ridin pine.

He could RS...

No reason wasting that same time on playing him 2nd string also. He had only played one year of Tackle in high school. Just with the 7 footers in basketball, sometimes it takes these mammoth kids a year to get the feet moving with the rest of their body. Hopefully he RS’s and we get him for three more years..

He's been working exclusively...

…with the tackles, so unless he takes a huge leap forward over the next few weeks and can steal one of those spots, he’ll probably redshirt and take over one of the spots next year (Drew Davis graduates, and either Fluker can come in at RT or Carpenter can move over and Fluker can step up at LT).

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless
