YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Dont'a Hightower-to-Jack discussion appears to have died down a bit as preseason camp now begins to turn toward game preperations for Virginia Tech. Hightower is still practicing with the inside linebacker. He spent at least one day on the outside earlier this preseason. Meanwhile, Eryk Anders and Courtney Upshaw reportedly saw much of the work at Jack during Saturday's scrimmage. It seems now that Anders, who tallied three sacks during that workout, is the front-runner to take on Brandon Fanney's former roll on a full-time basis.

Though I'm sure Dont'a will still likely be putting his hand down in certain passing situations, getting a wet blanket like this thrown over my lusty dreams of having that kind of beastly presence off the edge is still a little sad.

I believe I remember...
reading somewhere that CNS doesn’t want to telegraph our situation at Jack to opposing teams, particularly VT since they’re first on the list, who have no idea what to expect in the way of our improved pass rush. Is it possible that the coaches became aware of the hype surrounding the “organizational grouping” at the beginning of camp that had Dont’a practicing with the Jacks and decided to limit his work there to the closed portions of practices? Or am I just irrationally holding out hope that we’ll see him running down the QBs in every game?
If you want to restore your lusty dreams
do a Google Image Search of “Eryk Anders” and watch him demolishing Jevan Snead, Matt Stafford, and Kodi Burns. I think he is terribly underrated (hard not to be with the company he shares the field with), and I am personally very excited to see him rack up some sacks this year if he does indeed end up getting a good percentage of the playing time at Jack.
What he said...
…plus, we’ve got so much depth at LB, I say let’s move ’em around about every snap and see how the opposition craps their pants responds.

Good stuff
Spread playing time around to more play-makers. There is nothing wrong with having some guys who specialize in an edge rush of the passer, mixed in with the guys (like Hightower) who seem to be able to do anything.
