At question is money raised for Brown and other players to attend football camps while in high school. Kiffin said Brown is currently eligible, but is uncertain if Brown will be eligible for the season-opener Sept. 5 against Western Kentucky.

According to published reports by the Knoxville News Sentinel, the NCAA is investigating Bryce Brown's eligibility. The source of the investigation, undoubtedly, involves Brown's relationship with his "handler," Brian Butler, specifically with regard to how money was raised for Brown to participate in various football camps while still in high school. He's eligible for the time being, but his eligibility is seemingly in doubt moving forward. What can you say? You had to know something like this was coming as dramatized as his recruitment was and considering the extremely shady character of a guy like Butler..

I am stunned

that eligibility might be investigated after A) pulling out of school to B) go to a different school, C) in a different state, D) where his fixer “mentor” is E) arranging commercial “camps”, and then F) even Miami pulls the plug on you.

Sounds good to me, Lane…really on the up-and-up.

This is just the sort

of thing that could completely burst Kiffin’s balloon. Obviously losing games would hurt him also, but something like this is much more detrimental in the long run. Hamilton and the suits are already watching and waiting, feeling pressure from alumni and fans on account of Kiffin’s ego. Now they have a legitimate problem that will could potentially give them the buttkicking no football team on their schedule could give.

I’ve watched footage from their practices and the thing is, the weakest link on their staff is Lane Kiffin. I can’t wait to see how it will all play out.

MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--

BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.

BEST QUOTE EVER

From the Knox News Go Vols site:

"I’m definitely disappointed, but I’m not surprised," Butler told the Wichita Eagle. "Bryce is the No. 1 player in the country. They just want to make sure everything is on the up and up. That’s not a problem."

A Possible Solution

Perhaps Lame Kitten can rat out some other school in exchange for the NCAA looking the other way on Brown…it’s not like the Viles haven’t done it before.

So

what happens if the NCAA determines that he’s not eligible? How long does he have to sit out? A game? A year?

Depends

If they are questioning his amateur status, that could be a career ender couldn’t it?

tough call...

…since it’s kind of hard to vacate wins for a player that hasn’t ever played.

by kleph on Aug 19, 2009 10:15 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

and, umm...

it’s not like UT will have very many to vacate even if this kid does play.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing.

Chris Low at ESPN had this to say…

The fact that this is an issue now, two weeks into preseason camp, suggests that another school likely provided the NCAA with some information warranting a trip to Knoxville. It was pretty obvious in reading between the lines of Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin’s comments on Tuesday that he feels Brown is being singled out.

pay back is a bitch…i kid…but really..its a bitch..
