SEC Head Coaches on the hot seat
It's that time again. Last year, Fulmer and Croom were squarely on the hot seat before the season began, and both were ousted. No one could have predicted the bitter fall of Tubberville. This year, it isn't as clear from top to bottom who is on the hot seat. Rich Brooks and Les Miles could probably both keep their jobs even with another underwhelming season (comparatively speaking, of course). So, with that I ask this question: Which coach, for one reason or another will not be coaching their team this time next year?

Honestly...
…unless someone takes another job or something completely unforeseen happens (like an off the field scandal) I don’t think anyone is leaving after this season.

I think
probably the best odds are on Urban or Les leaving, or Spurrier or Brooks retiring. I have a feeling that Notre Dame job might be opening up sooner rather than later (if there’s any truth to his interest in the job).

Urban
and Les aren’t going anywhere…Brooks might just retire but he’s def not on the hot seat…

Urban...
This Season, Urban has:
*21 returning starters
*2 time Heisman Trophy QB
*Undefeated regular season, and likely an SEC and National Championship
*Weird Looking Head
Next Season, Urban will have:
*1 returning starter (barring serious injury this season)
*Weird Looking Head
Not much to come back to, IMO. If you’re going to have to rebuild, mich as well do it at his “dream job”.

Maybe...
…he should borrow Les Miles’s hat…then go to ND.

Yes, sorry...
That was foreshadowing…

I'm going with a dark horse and saying that Lane Kiffin will be gone..
Tennessee will be bad, and I have a feeling that Al Davis was more right than wrong about his character.
Richard Pittman
i don't know if i have said this lately...
but i like you…

Kiffin
may be bad…but after all the money UT has invested in him and his staff…and the headway they have made in recruiting…I dont think UT will get rid of him after just one year. Like him or not, I think he and his staff will be here (SEC) for at least 3-5 years.
ehh.
thats only if he shows improvement…if he sucks it up this year…proves that his name should be “boy blunder” during the offseason again and then sucks again next year…i could see UT pulling the trigger and promoting one of those “highly touted” coaches they supposedly have up there…
Scoring against Alabama will be like birthing a child: rare, painful, and messy
there's another young coach w/ little to nothing to show for himself, who's just started at anohter one of our rivals
and the administration has not invested heavily in him. chizik could be gone after this year. i wouldn’t be shocked if they lost 6 or 7 conference games. i wouldn’t be shocked if chikizet was fired or resigns. i would be shocked if they make it to a bowl game.
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...
I dont think they
will get rid of Chizik after this season unless he seriously implodes. Jacobs isn’t going to give him the boot cause there will be too many fingers pointing at him. He’ll cover his ass and call it a transition year. If Chizik blows it two years in a row i think he’s gone and I hope he takes Jacobs with him.

I
don’t think Chizik will be gone either namely because the expectations aren’t high. When most people think pulling out 6-6 will be considered a good year for him, then going 5-7 or 4-8 isn’t the end of the world. Disappointing sure, but not the end of the world.

It seems that...
…until AU does hire another coach, they will be content to (hopefully) nail down fifth place in the West. Seems like old times.

I dont know
about that. I just think level headed AU fans who actually know what is going on aren’t expecting much this season. New staff, unproven HC, ok talent, lots of holes in the lineup, injuries are gonna come and there’s no depth, etc. You can’t really look any further without seeing how this year goes.
As for old times I don’t know how far back you’re talking about (I’m thinking way back), but it’s funny how short some folks’ memories are are. Bama’s Back y’all.

Old times...
…for me are the 70s. But my main point is this: you’re going against Saban, Petrino, and Nutt. Miles is a dope, but LSU still has much more talent than AU. You have to pray that Mullen is a flop to stay out of the cellar for the next few years.
And your slogan is from an SI cover, not a credible source like RBR.

I’m not. Just pointing out that we all have our down years.

Well...
…duh. I’m just pointing out that, as long as CNS is Bama’s coach and Chizik is Auburn’s, our down years should only come every five to ten years, whereas yours should be abundant. Saban may leave earlier than expected, Chizik may be gone in a couple of years, but in the meantime, you’ll be ‘enjoying’ mediocrity.
I still say you should stop fighting and come to Bama. Mama’s calling.

Birdman...
add another choice..
None of the above…
Scoring against Alabama will be like birthing a child: rare, painful, and messy
Urban
may well be gone with Tebow.
Spurrier and Brooks may both retire.
Kiffin is going to be in big trouble when he goes 5-7 because he has done so many dumb things. I don’t know if UT is willing to continue to look foolish.
No way we have all 12 coaches back, no way. (If Johnson has another good year someone will grab him.)
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
I guess...
I guess it depends on what you really mean by “hot seat.” Some of the league’s coaches may very well (and likely will) retire and / or move on at the end of the season, but that’s not necessarily to say they will ever be on the hot seat, i.e. win now or you’re fired.
Anyway, as for coaches who may leave early, Brooks is on borrowed time at Kentucky, and we all know that. Retirement is not too far off for him, and honestly you could probably throw Spurrier in that group as well. I don’t think the smart money is on SOS leaving after the 2009 season, but if South Carolina struggles again this year, I don’t think it would surprise anyone. As for those leaving for other jobs, eh, I don’t really see any. Meyer is probably the best candidate, but I’d really be shocked if he left Florida. Maybe you can throw Miles-to-Michigan out there if Rich Rod tanks again in Ann Arbor, but again that’s assuming a lot of unknowns, and it’s an extreme longshot at best. Same for Saban going anywhere.
As for getting fired, I’m with Todd, I just don’t see anyone. Three coaches were fired last year and that pretty much handled the guys on the hot seat. The two closest on the hot seat are probably Kiffin and Chizik — and that really ought to tell you how bad those hires were in the first place — but even so it’s hard to see them getting axed after one year. Even if their debut campaigns are trainwrecks, it’s still hard to see it happening. In Kiffin’s case, he has an absolutely massive buyout that UT will probably never be willing to pay after just one year (and hell, maybe not ever), and honestly Chizik and company are far too in the bed with the powers that be at Auburn for them to run him out after one season, regardless of how pissed off the fan base gets. Hell, if anything, the powers at be down on the Plains are expecting a pure shit year… there’s a reason Jay Jacobs is going out publicly at every turn and telling people that it’s going to be a couple of years before they can get to where they want to go. That’s nothing but AD speak for, “We’re going to suck major ass in the next couple of years, but we’re planning on that, so don’t be calling to fire my ass after a couple of bad seasons.”

I'm with you there...
And I have to say, if I was Spurrier and had another bad season, I’d bow out before it got any worse. He has done enough damage to his legacy. I think he is best off to cut his losses and move on if SC is down again.
so chicklets is in good with Lowder then?
if so, that portends well for him. because he’s staring down the barrel of a 4-8 season. and he’ll need Lowder in his corner to make it to season # 2, and iron bowl loss # 3 in a row.
welcome to the SEC kiffykins...
