Oh Noes - Courtney Upshaw arrested for 3rd degree domestic violence.
Why Courtney, Why?!?!? After a great Tuesday, Courtney has put himself in a nasty situation. So much for Bama players staying out of trouble with the law this year.
Hopefully, this will blow over quickly, the charges will be dropped, and Courtney can get back to "popping" with Sunseri. But who know how Saban will handle this ordeal?
ed. - I'll just add this tidbit in here, but the arrest was made by UA police and a woman was also brought in facing the same charge and bond. Sounds like a case of an argument getting badly out of hand more than actual violence, but we'll just have to wait for details.

Hmm
Its disappointing for sure. Hopefully this is just an overblown situation but we’ll have to see..

Hopefully just an argument...
but if he hit a woman he probably should get kicked off the team.

If...
…the charge is harassment, then we may not want to spend too much time speculating that he hit anyone. We’ll know what we need to know soon enough, which is very little right now.

Damn
and just when we were making fun of Florida for their arrest numbers…

yeah that charge can mean alot of things
One of my friends and his girlfriend got arrested for that because she came home drunk and raising hell.He Ask her to leave she would not and so they were arguing loud and the cops showed up and took both of them to jail. She sobered up and never pressed charges and then he promptly broke up with her but that just shows you how little you have to do
My God Courtney
This is exactly what Coach is trying to tell yall. Yall are under the microscope 100% of the time and if a situation presents itself, You have to “walk away from it …period”

3rd Degree Domestic Violence
Here is a little information I found regarding what the charge is (see below). It at least reads like it is a verbal abuse, rather than actual battery. It is important to note the charge is a misdemeanor. Still, when I read the charge it definitely has a shock value to it.
Domestic violence third degree class A misdemeanor
The crime occurs when: The defendant commits a crime of assault in the third degree, reckless endangerment, criminal coercion or harassment. The defendant has a relationship described as above, with the victim.
The penalty: Second or subsequent conviction, the defendant shall serve a minimum of 48 hours in jail without consideration of reduction of time
Details are out...
According to documents filed in court around 10:30 a.m., a UAPD officer was on patrol in the parking lot of the student recreation center. He saw a Upshaw chasing a Gryzb, who turned around and yelled at him, the officer said.
“At this time, Upshaw grabbed Gryzb by the back of the neck and hair with his right hand, and pushed her downward in what appeared to be an attempt to push her to the ground,” Officer Rusty Romine wrote.
She freed herself from his grasp, the officer said, and tried to hit his face. Upshaw grabbed her by the forearm and pushed her away, the officer wrote.
Upshaw told the officer that she had slapped him because he was talking to another woman.
Both Upshaw and Gryzb, both 19, were charged with third-degere domestic violence/harrassment. Bail was set at $500.
This may not be good for him even if the charges are dropped. I don’t think Saban will enjoy the grabbing and pushing of a female. Meh.
That doesnt sound good
and if true hope he doesn’t come back to the team.
Of course, if not true I hope he doesn’t get douched down by the media, but chances of that happening are very good.
Finebaum should have a field day with this as he was butt hurt by Saban hurting the media’s feelings. Boo-freakin’-Hoo.

Finebaum
has already ran this template during Saban’s first year when we had some character issues with certain players. “ZOMG Saban running lose program!?”

Guess I'm not familiar with Saban hurting media's feelings...
Care to expound for those of us (me) who were out of the loop on that one? Thanks.

Hissy-fit
He threw a fit about media members speculating about who’s where on the depth chart and basically said that if he read in a column a member speculating about the depth chart again that he would see to it that said journalist’s credentials were revoked.

CNS...
…does not throw fits. But he did reveal his wrath over media members publishing speculation over depth charts as fact.

And
I think that was one media member in particular. Most of them are pretty careful with their wording so as to not bring about the wrath of the Nictator.

No freaking sense
I know people make mistakes, but stuff like this is inexcusable. I hope he just tried to stop her and she pushed away and fell, which could look much worse than it is. I hope he didn’t actually grab her by the neck and throw her down. A lot of people have probably had arguments with their girlfriend that got heated. Then the girl marches off and the guy runs after her to stop her. Thing is, you can calmly say, “Wait, hold up” and reach for a woman without forcibly grabbing her neck and throwing her down.
I hope, for his sake, this whole thing is just being blown out of proportion. My gut feeling is that this is as bad as we all imagine.
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.
The shame of it
is that I actually check this site repeatedly throughout the day looking for headlines like this. I don’t want to see headlines like this, but I’m cynical and realistic. I know that too many of today’s athletes are headcases who’ve been allowed to do whatever they want to do for so long that they don’t understand boundaries. It pisses me off whenever this stuff happens because seriously, what the hell was Upshaw thinking?
He probably thinks that because she slapped him he could put his hands on her. It doesn’t work that way. Not in a classy, respectful world. If he was cheating on her or trying to hook up, she is completely justified.

IF there is an upside to this
it’s that this took place at the rec center at 10:30 a.m. and NOT on the strip after midnight.
correction
10:30 a.m. sometime at the rec center
Sometimes its hard
We all have been in situations with our girlfriends and/or wives and they can call you a coward or whatever they want to call you but you have GOT to walk away from such a situation, especially if you are playing football for the U of A!!! The players have got to realize the importance of thinking before you act, or react in this case. I know the players are going to be in relationships which is normal and expected but here again you are under such scrutiny on everything you do. You can’t let your emotions get the better of you. I hope and pray things work out for Courtney, if indeed it was only a defensive move.
