Tuberville spreads the fear
Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville attended the Manning Pass Academy with his son and had this to say about McElroy at the Little Rock Touchdown Club recently:
"Watching him handle himself, the way he threw the ball, listening to the other quarterbacks talk about him, I think he’s going to be a very, very good quarterback," he said.

He will surprise
people and then everyone is going to say “Oh I knew he was going to be good.”
We just need to keep him upright.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

I was the first to praise GMac! Though, none of us had much proof of how good he might be… but, my philosophy was that just about any QB would be better than JPW. next someone replies… he was undefeated in the regular season… blah, blah… that’s all nice and dandy… ty JPW… but, name a game he took on his shoulders and won tebow-esque? I can think of none. don’t think I’m downing JPW fellow fans. I was never satisfied with his play… I guess 3 years of sweating bullets every offensive down made me a little pessimistic of his ability.
so easy... even an Auburn fan can do it!
Despite the...
…‘phone call’, I thought he took the LSU game on his shoulders last year, but it was overshadowed by the play of another senior on the other side of the ball. JP’s (non)TD run, negated by a Smitty holding call, and his OT pass to Julio to set up his game-winning QB sneak were pretty solid.

And...
…I expect to see better things from GMac, too.

I...
…hated it, and the penalty it cost us, and the LSU TD it helped create. If we had lost that game, I’m not sure any of us would look back on it fondly.
I’ve never been a fan of anything that draws unnecessary attention to the individual (well, except for Billy ‘White Shoes’ Johnson’s TD dances; that cat was smooth) at the expense of the team.

Tuberville
I thought the more interesting quote was regarding McElroy and Alabama running up the score in the Iron Bowl (it is not in this article). I thought that was an odd comment considering we had taken out our starting OL and QB.
Well, we know what Nick had to say
about running up the Auburn score:
“It was a seven-yard out route to the tight end, but they were playing bump-and-run, and the read is to throw it over the top on that. We weren’t trying to run up the score. If they didn’t want us to throw it over their heads, they shouldn’t have played bump-and-run.
In sum: if the Barn’s starters are going to bump and run, then our reserves should be trying to make the read they’re coached to make…36-nil, Barn.

Running up the score
I agreee. I have always believed in the Spurrier idea, it’s their job to stop us not ours.
Well...
…Spurrier (and Meyer, for that matter) actually try to run up the score, not just get experience for their 2nd and 3rd team players. I don’t believe in that idea.

someone that everyone considers a “class act” = Tom Osborne.

Oh yes...
… he consistently ran up the score, and so did a lot of other option coaches. Those guys got away with it because they could run up the score just by basically running it straight into the line, so they avoided most of the heat from doing so.
On the other hand, when guys like Spurrier and Meyer go out there with a 35 point lead and spread the field with five receivers and start throwing it everywhere, people start reaching for the pitchforks, but in all actuality it’s the exact same thing as what someone like Osborne did.

A lot of bad stuff...
…came out of the 80s, and those NU teams, as well as some OU and Miami teams, were the first ones I remember going against what I learned about sportsmanship watching Coach Bryant’s Alabama teams.

The Bear played every single player on the team, i believe.

College football
in the 80’s was a wild time. You had the Boz, Dye’s pants stayed up, players beating their preg girlfriends and playing the next game no big deal, rampant cheating etc… it was like Scarface. Just make the rules up as you go which pretty much means there are no rules.

I
read what you’re talking about and it did sound just a tad bitter, didn’t it? If Tubby were still the coach I probably would’ve included it.

That's what I'm talking about
When you’re the understudy to Chase Daniel (then break his records) and learn how to be a tough, buy-in leader from JPW, you can’t help but be a good one.
With viable 2nd and 3rd options at WR, the murderers row of our backfield, and McElroy dishing the rock, I’m as excited about watching this offense as I am about the impending decapitations our D is going to lay on people.

i have to say this made me feel a lot better. Tubbs could have thrown him under the bus or said nothing at all. But im starting to believe in GMac for all the reasons you listed above.

Then again...
He did coach at Miami (defense admittedly), and saw some very good QBs: Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, Steve Walsh, (yes) Gino Toretta, and Vinnie Testaverde…
Just because he couldn’t recruit/coach the talent there doesn’t mean he doesn’t know a good one when he sees it. Just like I don’t have to make the two humped beast with Megan Fox to know she’s the bomb.

I wonder at the Manning camp
if the some of the parents demanded their money back if their kid ended up in the group counseled by Crompton.
Hell...
I bet Crompton was the most sought after counselor in the whole camp, especially to the parents.
Think about it, he could entitle his seminar, “How to be an extremely shitty quarterback, yet still be a five-star prospect and get firm scholarship offers from literally every school in the country.” There’s nothing Peyton Manning could ever say to any of those kids that would half as enlightening and as useful as that.
