Going To ATL? What Are Your Plans?
The tickets arrived. The room is booked. The trip to Atlanta will take place next Friday. My question to the community is who all is going? And maybe more importantly, what is everyone doing before the game on Saturday? Last year's Clemson game was a mix for us. We took in some of the GameDay coverage and hit random bars/restaurants around the Dome, which was a pain, considering the number of people in attendance.
Optimally, I would like to keep a low-key approach to the day. Maybe do the GameDay thing for a while, and then find some place where we can sit back, relax, drink a few (or more) beers and enjoy a day of televised games. Any recommendations?

I will be there...
Myself and 3 friends are flying in Friday and leaving the wives at home. We are going to want to party Friday, maybe somewhere with live music, downtown…any recs? Stu, Saturday sounds great as you described it, low-key bar with plenty of Flat Screens, whiskey, cigars, football all tucked away where I won’t know what time of day it is. I have been 8 months deprived and I want to engulf myself in college football all day.
Depending on how out of control Friday night gets, we would like to golf early Saturday morning, what courses would one familiar with the Atl are recommend?
Downtown is not really a good place to party. There’s very little in the way of decent bars. Getting yourself to Midtown, the Virginia Highlands, or East Atlanta is probably the best bet for partying, depending on your preferred crowd.
Friday night, though, you might consider this to kick things off: http://www.rollbamaroll.com/2009/8/12/986908/virginia-tech-pep-rally-in-atlanta
I'm wrong all the time.
As of now...
…I’m planning on getting there Friday night. I will probably be staying with friends and will hang out with them on Friday night. Gameday? No plans yet for that, though I like the just chilling idea, unless somebody’s tailgating and wants to invite me. :p
Driving Over Friday
and catching the Braves/Reds game…
Saturday, I may just sit at my friend’s place and watch GameDay (not sure) and take my time getting out so I can watch football…but if I know of a place down by the Dome I may get out earlier than expected…
I CANNOT WAIT!!! RTR!!!

A sports bar kind of place...
…that offers about a gajillion different beers as well as your normal pub food: burgers, wings, etc.
There used to be one in Southside in Birmingham, but it’s long gone.
its only the most amazing place EVER
my mother threw away my t-shirt from there when she found what kind of place it was and i (for some stupid reason) told her only the best drinkers get to wear the t-shirts, and she could see a picture of me in that T-shirt on the Taco Mac wall in Dunwoody (north ATL)…..mothers are always so proud of their sons.

just checked the link
and i will definitely be there, we all need to hook up at one of these places sat. morning
Taco Mac is the bomb
They have outstanding wings – but just get the regular hot, not the TMI (Three Mile Island) – those taste nasty, too much paparika.
There are NOT a lot of places around the Dome to watch football – and the ones there will all be packed tight. If you don’t have a tailgate to attend, you can always hang out in the CNN Center food court area – the venders there all serve beer at fairly reasonable prices. It is always packed with fans. You will lose the outdoor atmosphere though.
moving that weekend
and watching the game at a bar…
Scoring against Alabama will be like birthing a child: rare, painful, and messy. - The Ghost of Jay Cutler
Nice signature bammer!
I have a friend that rented a 12.5 foot high definition tv/projector so we will be tailgating in a backyard!
"Scoring against Ole Miss will be like the octomom birthing her kids with a quick C-section and that double-shot thingy that makes her numb from the waste down..........messy momentarily but relatively easy and a lot less painful than everyone is making it out to be"

Good place to go...
I’ll be heading in from the Ham on Friday night after I get off work. I think for Saturday we’re gonna park at the dome and then perhaps take the MARTA train out to Decatur and hang out at the Brick Store Pub. I was there before the Clemson and SEC championship games last year and it was a really great time. Tons of high quality beer, cheap but awesome food, and not a very large crowd.

Decatur?
Interesting choice. It is a very “ecletic” area of town. You may have trouble getting them to put the football games on the TVs though – they won’t want to turn off women’s golf.
I’m just sayin….
