The Deal with Television Coverage in the SEC this Season.

ed. - bumped from the fanposts

I have seen a lot of people on RBR talking about where all the games are going to be and when they would be broadcast, so I decided that I would try and make it as clear as possible so that we can go ahead and put this topic to rest.

Here's the order of the Television Broadcasts

1. CBS Game of the Week- 2:30ish
2. ESPN-Primetime
3. ESPN 2-Primetime
4. FSS-Primetime
5. SEC Netwok(formerly Raycom/Lincoln Financial/Jefferson Pilot)-11:30 a.m.
6. ESPNU-Primetime
7. ESPNU-Noon
8. CSS-Afternoon
9. PPV-6ish
-Also note that CBS has two doubleheaders scheduled: 10/10-Alabama-Ole Miss and Florida-LSU and 11/28 Which has yet to be announced.
-Each team will have ONE game this season on PPV.
-ESPN has to televise all possible games.
-Most big nonconference games(Alabama-VT, UGA-OK State) will be on ABC.

FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

The SEC Game of the Week...

on CBS would be deciding 6 – 12 days prior to the air date, which leaves little time for advanced plannning. It leaves you to believe that CBS will opt to wait and broadcast the highest ranked team of that week.

Not on CBS again !!

12 and 6 rule

On the past contract, there were only two weeks a year that CBS could wait until 6 days prior to the game to choose its selection. Each other week, it had to make its pick 12 days in advance.

I think CBS would be foolish not to pick the highest ranked team in a good matchup, no?

5. SEC Netwok

So am I to assume that these games will be found on whatever regional channel that the Lincoln/Raycom games were on?

Know that my grief..

is that my reception of CBS produces a poor quality picture. It’s like watching football broadcast back in to seventies.

Not on CBS again !!

You

guys must have cable…

Actually

satellite, but due to the county I live in being on the Al. MS. line, I’m classified as MS. The MS. station does not broadcast in HD, so there I am. Therefore, ESPN is the only way I can watch in HD, and that really sucks.

by CousinEddie on Aug 4, 2009 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

That

does suck. When I had Comcrap, local channels always looked bad but as soon as I got Directv, eveything became so clear… both in TV and in life.

I have Directv,

and I love it, but they won’t budge on changing area classifications. Live in AL. watch MS. locals. How crazy is that?

by CousinEddie on Aug 4, 2009 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions

It was the same

with my cable company when I lived in Pensacola, FL. All the local’s were out of Mobile. The only difference was, that worked out great for me.

TV schedule

A great source for national TV schedules is:

http://www.lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm

I’m sure the site has made errors, but they are usually quite accurate in their predictions. They’re predicting Bama vs. Arky for CBS…which is quite disappointing to me. I’d really prefer that be a night game.

by Nico2.0 on Aug 4, 2009 9:50 AM CDT reply actions

No, not CBS for UA v. UA

That’s the only game I’m going to make this year and I really wanted another night game like 2 years ago.

Yeah I had box seats to that game.

We mooched them off my dad’s former roomate at Alabama.

I

was on the 2nd row, which is too close, really but we were on about the 35-40 yard line behind the Bama bench. When Caddel caught that pass it was crazy… will never forget it.

That

may have been the loudest I have heard BDS since my first game in the late 80’s. I hear the ’05 UF game was louder though.

by Bama_95 on Aug 4, 2009 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Tennessee...

…’07 was ridiculously loud as well. Especially for an 11:30 game. Florida ’05 was super loud on TV. I also heard the Oklahoma game was mega-loud.

by Nico2.0 on Aug 4, 2009 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions

When we played...

…UGA in 1994, I thought the walls would come a tumblin’ down.

Of course, you fellas were prolly about six years old.

by NiceLittleSaturday on Aug 4, 2009 3:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I've never heard the stadium louder

Then after Javy returned that punt against LSU in ’07. I was in that endzone and it was AWESOME. Too bad we lost.

36-0

by Bamabrave4 on Aug 4, 2009 4:19 PM CDT up reply actions

I was...

…at that game, too, and it was electric, but I seriously thought the stadium was gonna fall apart after we beat UGA in 94. Only for a minute or two, but you could feel that big old place shaking. I’ll never forget it.

by NiceLittleSaturday on Aug 4, 2009 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually,

I was a student at the game in ’94. That was a great one as well.

by Bama_95 on Aug 4, 2009 4:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Awesome game

Had seats in the endzone where the catch was made.

by Bama_95 on Aug 4, 2009 2:08 PM CDT up reply actions

I was...

…hugging strangers after the catch.

by Nico2.0 on Aug 4, 2009 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

3 SEC rivals with 2 weeks to prepare for Bama

Anyone else noticed how this seems to happen year after year. I believe Ole Miss, Tenn., and Auburn for 2009.

Arkansas has 2 weeks to prepare for UGA.
LSU has 2 weeks to prepare for AU.
UGA has 2 weeks to prepare for UF.
Bama has 2 weeks to prepare for LSU.

Only Bama has 3 SEC games with openings the week before.

by Bama_95 on Aug 4, 2009 12:15 PM CDT reply actions

even scarier is the Ole Miss game.

…we gave back to back road games at Kentucky, then at Ole Miss….that is 3 less days of practice time due to travel etc….while Ole Miss has two weeks to prepare to play us at their home. The Kentucky game is a trap game as well…

by akbrown15 on Aug 4, 2009 4:50 PM CDT up reply actions

It's not like we'll be taking a bus...

…to Kentucky. They’ll be back in Alabama by Sunday, which would be a film watching day anyway. Sunday might be a bit more pushed, but it’ll be business as usual otherwise. If it’s an early game for some reason, they’ll probably be back in Alabama that night.

by Nico2.0 on Aug 4, 2009 5:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Not to argue with you...or split hairs here...

….but travel does take away from preparation time. Period.

by akbrown15 on Aug 6, 2009 9:15 AM CDT up reply actions

Saban

can coach on the bus. Problem solved.

Sure it does...

…but it’s not going to take days of prep time away.

does anyone know if the FSS games would be shown

on ESPN360? I don’t have cable or anything now, so I’m probably going to be very reliant on it this year. I know the CBS games won’t be on there, but I was just wondering about the others.
