This is all a motivational trick
Deaderick will come marching onto the field to the astonishment of Bama fans everywhere. We will rally behind him and the kids will play their hearts out.

Yeah...
… you’ve got to go back to the old one. Confusion notwithstanding, the Rambo avatar was always the coolest one on here.

True
maybe I’ll save the “Evil Pete” avatar for the next 200+ comment-argument about Courtney Upshaw’s girlfriend.

This upcoming season I'm gonna refer to Julio Jones as "The Magic Man" and Trent Richardson as "El Diablo"

What happened to Deaderick is incredibly unfortunate. That being said, I am much more concerned with his physical and mental recovery as a person and not as a player. While Deaderick is an incredible athlete who will be missed on the field, he has two backups who will be more than serviceable replacements. IMO, Deaderick playing this Saturday shouldn’t even be an issue. You would think Chris Lowe could find something better to write about.
you think
too much of Chris Lowe…

Honestly, I don't.
I guess a better way to end the comment would have been “You would think that ‘the worldwide leader in sports’ could find a better blogger than Chris Lowe.” Then again, maybe I think too much of ESPN.

I have a few suggestions for Lowe's replacement
1. Tommy Deas
2. Tim Gayle
3. Ray Melick
4. Clyde Bolton
5. Randy Kennedy

Hope he recovers
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I also hope Alabama losses all it’s games, Nick Saban goes back to the NFL, and Alabama gives up football, but I hate to see bad things happen to good guys.
Of course, if he hadn’t had the oops of choosing Alabama he wouldn’t have been there .. ;-) — okay, sorry, sorry, had to say it. Feel free to commence “if he had been in Knoxville..” jokes.
But yeah, hope to see him have a full and healthy recovery.

Am I the only one
on this site that is mystified at just how fast the NCAA handled the Ten. and Bryce Brown case? Or, at how long it has taken them not to address ours?
From what I've heard
Tennessee’s Athletic Department is really good at working the system and cutting through Red Tape. I don’t have a clue about Bama’s AD. I wasn’t even aware that Bama had an eligibility issue (insert joke about always assuming Alabama is ineligible, I’ll pass on it so just fill in your own) but now I think I’ll have to.
Needless to say, I do think the NCAA made the right decision, and I hate seeing guys who should play unable to because of some issue. I’ll look into your all’s case sometime and get an opinion of it. Now that I think about it I think I saw a headline elsewhere I didn’t follow about Julio Jones and Ingram?
Oh, wait, yeah, the I’M ON A BOAT! thing. From what I’ve heard, that kinda sounds a bit silly, on both sides, but I don’t smell anything that fishy, no pun intended.

Here's my two cents...
Pete knows a lot about NCAA issues, and at the end of the day he’s usually right about those matters. Give the man his credit.
And he says here that the trip is a non-issue, so why in the hell beat your head against the wall worrying otherwise?
Besides, keep this in mind… Saban and company very much have an incentive to keep the Hokie coaching staff in the dark about whether or not Julio & Ingram will play. The possibility of those two missing the game — thus causing a change in our scheme, strategy, and other plays having to fill roles — forces the Virginia Tech coaching to staff to plan and prepare for things they otherwise would not have to.
And all honesty, even if Saban knew they were going to play, why would he come out and announce they would? What, to calm the nerves of some paranoid Alabama fans? To hell with that… keep the Hokies in the dark instead.

Do you think Saban
has received the ruling and he’s purposely keeping it secret? I trust Pete’s opinion because he’s the real deal, but the media is really trying to make this seem worse than it is (unless it is bad and we’re kidding ourselves, which I don’t think is the case because Pete and others have explained what’s even at stake if they do play before a ruling has been given).

I obviously don’t know for sure that is what is happened, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if it did happen.

I think that's the case
Though, I’ll be honest, I think Bama can beat VTech without their WRs. VTech’s offense just isn’t good enough, I don’t think, so as long as you guys don’t succumb to Beamer ball, should be fine.

I totally thought Ingram was a WR
I have been corrected. So, that said hmmm. I hope for ya’lls sake you have him Hope for VTech’s sake you don’t. There, that sounds much less friendly.
I still hate Alabama! — But, to make it easier, please get in major NCAA trouble soon. Whatever it was last year’s stuff doesn’t count as serious enough, I want to see major sanctions durnit!

orson's take
over at the incomparable EDSBS.
…though Brandon Deaderick is a "probably will not play" after being shot in the arm. It’s the "probably" in that sentence that gives it the whiff of being unmistakably badass, as in "Hey, if we really need him we can put in the guy who was shot this week."
