Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

How Does Bama Benefit?

Like many Bama fans, I have often debated over other games and even argued with other Bama fans as to how the outcome might affect Bama in the polls.  There is no clear cut solution to this problem because we all have our most hated teams (mine is notre Lame), that even if they were playing the Chinese we would wear our best Chicomm shirt (ie: the barners).

And this weekend is like everyone before, so lets look and see who we should be pulling for and why.

Ole Miss over SC - because we need the Rebs  to be as high in the polls as possible so when we beat them in 2 weeks, it benefits Bama

VT over Miami _ we do NOT need the media slobbering all over the canes as they breeze through the weak ACC, and the better VT does, the better for our Strength of Schedule

Iowa over Penn St - we also do not need the sympathy vote going for JoePa as it almost was last year, they are an average team at best playing in a very weak Big 10, how about some help Hawkeyes.

LSwho over MSU - once again it goes back to wanting the bayou bengals at the highest when we skin them tigers, don't think they'll have a problem this week

As for Florida and Texas, well, that goes without saying, but I doubt there is much chance this week, but here's routing for the underdog.

SC over OM in my opinion.

securing a spot in atlanta is more important than worry about our strength of schedule. If we beat them, then it won’t really matter where they are ranked. If we lose to OM or LSU, they will need 2 losses for us to get in.

What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

Agree.

I’m going for any SEC East Team playing any SEC West Team. We should not assume we will sweep through the SEC. NC is nice, but right now I just want to win the West.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

Yes I agree.

The SEC West is the goal. If Ole Miss looses to SC it helps Bama in the SEC West. The goal is for Bama to get to Atlanta and beat the SEC East Champions. Forget strength of schedule.

Florida and Texas

At this point we don’t really need for Florida or Texas to lose. If everything stays the same, we would have the chance to handle them ourselves.

yezzur...

I’m happy right here…let the Big 12 fight it out and do what they do and we’ll meet FL in the SECCG and beat ’em and go the the MNC…plain…simple…

Wish you could drive down to T-Town this weekend. Egans won’t be the same without you. I am NOT drinking any rum! Absolutely no way you can swing it?

Hey, if we hadn't been thrown out of the Houndstooth...

…we wouldn’t have had all the fun at Egans(Jeremy breaking his tooth and you doing the Electric Slide down University Blvd). Of course, that was during the rather large span of time I don’t recall, but LittleSis told me about.

Me too

I am pulling for the SEC East from here on out (except for UT). Miss can lose all their games for all I care. If we win the SEC West, then beat UF in Atl, then we play for the NC. Regardless of SOC.

I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . . DBT

What happens if we have a similar 3 way tie like the big 12 last year?

We beat ole miss, ole miss beats lsu, and lsu beats us?

SEC Tiebreaker (my understanding)

The SEC tiebreaker rules are different than those of the Big 12. Using the SEC rules last year, Texas Tech would have been eliminated from the tie due to their lower BCS ranking after being blown out by Oklahoma. At that point, it would have been a 2 way tie with Texas holding the advantage due to beating Oklahoma on the field. Therefore, using the SEC tiebreaker, Texas would have represented the Big 12 South in the Big 12 championship game.

You can find the rules here:

Thanks

I remember that now, so if this hypothetical tie breaker occured… which team do you think we would need to beat to up our chances to not be the odd man out………Ole Miss or LSU? it almost seems like hypothetically if we did have to take a loss it would be better to lose to ole miss since we would have more time to move back up in the polls and not be the odd man out……..of course we could have to pray that lsu beats olemiss…….but at least that makes me feel better than thinking the only way we get to SEC Championship is for ole miss to lose twice……..really just once to lsu …….and then we would have to beat them….and hope lsu wins out as well to ensure olemiss is the odd man out

the key is LSU playing Florida

Only way for a 1 loss 3 way tie is for LSU to beat Florida and lose to Bama or Ole Miss. If that happens, you can bet that LSU will not be the lowest ranked team out of the three. So in that scenario, it would probably be better to have our loss @ Ole Miss and win vs. LSU.

If Florida beats LSU (which is probable) then a 3 way tie is unlikely. The Ole Miss game will be a must win. If we beat them, then we can lose to LSU as long as Ole Miss beats them.

What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.
