I'm going to repeat my last post from the other thread.

I know this isn’t a big deal, but Alabama has the longest regular season winning streak in the country.

Bama – 16 games
Boise – 15 games (playing tonight)
Florida – 13 games

Gentry...

quoting Saban: “The initial prognosis is not good.”

Sounds to me like their early tests are showing some sort of structural damage and they are just waiting for the MRI to confirm it tomorrow.

Honestly...

Obviously you shouldn’t be pulling anyone early in the second quarter — you do need to get some work in — but late third in a blowout game? No way.

by outsidethesidelines on Sep 26, 2009 7:38 PM CDT reply actions

Ah...

… he looks fine to me. That’s a hard shot and probably a concussion. His head will hurt like hell for two or three days, but Florida is off next week and then they play at LSU. I’m sure he’ll be 100% by the time the Gators head down to Baton Rouge.

Certainly not...

by outsidethesidelines on Sep 26, 2009 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Honestly, it all depends on the severity of the concussion.

I know in boxing some concussions can indeed be minor enough to allow a fighter back into contact work in a few days, others, at least medically speaking, call for much longer respites (months). I haven’t seen the footage yet, but from the sounds of it this is fairly serious. Also the fact that it was from the back of the head makes it potentially more serious. Physiologically speaking our anatomy is designed to take impact from the front of the skull, somewhat from the sides, and not so much from behind. Having said all that, he’ll probably be walking on Gatorade tomorrow, because hey—he’s Tebow.

True...

And, honestly, I’m not sure this Kentucky team is as good as last year’s team.

Good grief...

… I hate to be a douche about this one, but ESPN2 is broadcasting Tebow’s parents like they were just told their son got killed in Iraq or something.

I hate injuries when they happen to anyone, but it is a part of the game that will happen to every play eventually, and this does not even look to be a particularly serious injury. It’s absurd that they are making this seemingly the biggest news story of the day simply because Tebow got nicked up a bit.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — At last, Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett can quit running.

He was trying to get away from a fierce Alabama pass-rush all game, to no avail, and the surging Crimson Tide made a strong case Saturday as the No. 1 team in the country with a 35-7 beatdown of Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

I would put my money on any of our 3 5 mods for prescient analysis over Low…We can at least put our fanboy chubby biases aside to tell it how it is, which goes thusly:
1. Offense. Real good. Don’t blitz us.
2. Defense. We’ll f’in cripple you
3. Feel free to set up the return after we score on you…it’ll keep you in the game.
4. Punt to Reamer’s side.

Injuries

This year, I’ve been holding my breath a little more than usual. We hear about an injury and say, “Oh no! Not Julio!” or “Mark Ingram’s hurt?!?!” and today the talk about Dont’a.

Then I felt a little better when I looked at Florida: a single superstar getting hurt (and we sincerely hope he recovers in time to knock him out again in the SEC championship). Instead of relying on superstar(s), we have a team that is a single unit. When one guy gets hurt, the team has to compensate and has been successfully doing so this season.

Here’s to hoping our injuries aren’t as severe as we first thought, and that all players everywhere stay injury-free, but I was wondering, how many licks and injuries will Alabama have to take before we don’t look like such a powerhouse team? Even without Julio, Ingram, or Hightower, we’re still the team to beat, and I can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy at that thought.

by squinky86 on Sep 26, 2009 9:52 PM CDT reply actions

by Mac T on Sep 26, 2009 9:56 PM CDT reply actions

I hope...

… but given my understanding of the knee structure, I don’t think an MCL injury would result from the type of hit he took. MCL injuries come from contact on the side, Hightower took the impact front on.

I hope that’s the case, but even then that’s not a good prognosis. Completely torn MCL’s can easily take two, three months (maybe more), and that would still effectively be a season-ending injury.

1) Florida
2) Texas
3) Bama
4) USC (?)
5) VA Tech

Yes, they did last week

Florida
Texas
Alabama
LSU
Boise

LSU is no good, and BSU plays in a joke conference, but they’ll move up.

so do we know...

how many unbeatens remain? Other than us, Florida, and Texas?

by Queen of the Universe on Sep 26, 2009 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Boise, LSU, Cincy, TCU, KU

Major conference?

SEC: LSU, Aubrun
Big 12: TAMU, Missouri, Kansas
Big East: Cincy, USF
Big 10: Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin
Pac 10: UCLA

Can you believe that...

… as bad as LSU has looked this year, they will be #4 in the country.

And will likely be underdogs going into Athens against UGA. Talk about rankings by default…

by outsidethesidelines on Sep 26, 2009 10:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep...

… honestly they averted complete and total disaster today.

They are nevertheless going to have to somehow get a split the next two weeks just to stay alive in the SEC West. If they lose to both Georgia and Florida, they could easily lose out on the SEC West even if they beat both Alabama and Ole Miss. I could see Alabama losing to LSU but still going 7-1 in conference play.

And honestly, if they don’t play better soon than they have so far this year, I’m not sure that the Auburn game is a guaranteed win.

by outsidethesidelines on Sep 26, 2009 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Kinda...

…as bad as they looked today…and they looked bad. The offense sucked, and the defense reminded me of what MSU’s defense was last year…a mediocre unit with one very good player (Pegues/Jones). I can’t believe they’re that bad…but they look that bad.

Yes...

I do…with that secondary, UGA can outscore them. And jesus, I know they promised that Randall would play but why move Scott to FB, make RR your leading rusher…on the road? Idiot.

They're lucky...

…they get AU at home. It does seem to matter in that game.

B/C Auburn forgot how ot play defense and

LSU forgot how to score on bad teams…I say these two teams have a co-ed pudding wrestle to determine the 4th place West team.

who would have thought

after Thursday that Ole Miss might have been a better #4 than the team holding that spot this week.

Seriously, they should just cancel the polls for the next 2 weeks.

What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

But who else do you put up there.

I think VA Tech has looked awesome, but they have a loss. None of the other undefeated teams has played anyone except for Iowa and they’re not jumping from unranked to no. 4

by rugman11 on Sep 26, 2009 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions

This sucks.

Notre Dame is now more likely to go 10-2 and sneak out a shitty BCS bid. Fuck this shit.

by rugman11 on Sep 26, 2009 10:27 PM CDT reply actions

No way...

… that a two-loss Notre Dame team makes a BCS game.

And honestly, I’m not sure they only lose two. USC will kill them, and they will choke somewhere else.
