Alabama vs Va Tech Predicition Thread

Ill be moving today and won't be near a computer until sometime Saturday. So I wanted to go ahead a throw my prediction out there....

Im thinking its going to be closer than we'd like. Our Oline just doesn't have enough game experience and GMac will probably be amp'd. It will take a few games to get everyone together.  Hopefully it will only take a few series...

Im also guessing that we won't show too much in this game. There is a whole season to play and unless we find ourselves down in the 4th, the offense/ defense will probably be somewhat dialed down.

So my prediction is:

27- 13 Bama

Damn and i almost forgot...ROLL TIDE BABY!!!

FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

I'm feeling it...

this team has unfinished business, and while there are questions on the OL, they will be fine…perhaps not as dominant as last year’s squad, but good enough to keep G-Mac upright and open holes for hard-fought upfield yards.

Key being Bama’s score divisible by 7, no FG’s

2008 fact: Red Zone scoring = 85%
                        Tiffin’s percentage = 66% (20/30)

Way too many FG attempts, Top 4 teams last year was average 13.

I think its going to be a lot closer than some of y'all are thinking.

VT’s defense gave up very few points last season, of course their offense scored very few as well. I am thinking a close low scoring game. I know…terrible prediction with no points…(my own superstition)

Don't forget about

last years defensive frenzy against Georgia. Our defense will create several scoring opportunities.

Offensive key is to protect the ball, denying VT from scoring on our offense.

Be that as it may

Clemson was ranked higher than Bama, 9th I think, and they were at full strength. The dynamic-duo was shut down accept for the return for a TD by Spiller that was inconsequential in the game.

I know it’s easier to keep your expectations in check, easing the pain if Bama has an off game, but VT is not at full strength and if the ranking powers that be knew Evans would not play this season, they would have been ranked much lower.

One more factor is that McElroy has been waiting patiently for this opportunity and he’s smart enough to realize the importance of this game. Barring a O-line breakdown, we should be better than most people believe.

i guess what confuses me is this observation...

from aqui, my italics…

Get ready for defense and more defense. Both teams are terrific on that side of the ball, but a few too many growing pains on offense will cost the Crimson Tide, who have weathered one distraction after another leading up to this game.

um… what distractions? the textbook thing was a year ago and the fishing trip was known to be nonsense from the start. it’s been clearly obvious that the hoo-rah over these issues has been on the part of rival fans and lazy journalists looking for summer filler. and the shooting this week was shocking but hardly enough to push a focused team off the rails. in fact, it’s more likely a rallying point.

i mean, look at what happened during the off-season last year and things seemed to turn out pretty good in the opener. there a lot of valid arguments about why virginia tech could win this game. this isn’t one of them.

Usually the defenses are ahead of the offense..

….early in the season. The kinks have to be worked out by both offenses. I wouldnt be surprised if this is a 9-6 type game. I would definitely bet the under…..

Close due to defenses?

I think the game could be low scoring enough to be close, and that’s how I picked it online, but I feel that Alabama could blow up in VTech’s faces as the game wears on. So I’ll say 27-6

The Wildcat Formation

Could be huge against Virginia Tech since it could nullify their movement on defense and force their smaller guys into playing the traditional big man on big man style that smaller defenses don’t normally do.

Want to impose your will on them, make them do what they don’t want to do. Don’t let them be so shifty and slanty. Go facemask to facemask with them.

WARNING !! Javier, I hope you're reading this.

VT special teams is banking on Javier Aranas going after a kick-off/punt inside the 10 or 15 yard line. Javier must resist the temptation and let the ball go rather than risk a big hit and subsequent turnover. I believe VT knows they must score some on defense and special teams is their strong suit and their golden opportunity.

You can guarantee that VT has watched the video of Alabama’s special team mis-steps against LSU and Florida. I know Javier mean well, but he must know where he is on the field and when the ball goes over his head when he’s standing on the twenty, let it go…please! Usually nothing good comes out of that situation by bad field position or God forbid, turnovers.

Breakdown

1st Quarter: 10-3
Bama starts on offense and opens with either a deep ball to Julio or a screen to Maze. The drive ends in a touchdown.
Deaderick assumes his role on the defense, Tech ends up having to punt. We get a field goal on the next drive, and so does Tech.

2nd Quarter: 17-3
We have a long, clock-eating drive to run it in for a touchdown.
Tech is held to a three-and-out, and then time runs out before we can score again.

3rd Quarter: 24-10
We let Tech go down and score a touchdown because of some half-time adjustments. But this is the last time they score.
Bama gets another touchdown thanks to Trent Richardson.

4th Quarter: 31-10
After another clock-eating drive, McElroy throws one to the endzone on our familiar fade route to Maze because Julio has been double-teamed since the end of the first.
Tech is shutdown from here on as they run out of gas and we continue to dominate.

Roll Tide, folks!

Pretty nervous about this one....

almost as nervous as the last time we were in the Georgia Dome. I think it will be close at the beginning and we pull away at the end but we never have a comfortable lead( to me 17 points is a comfortable lead not a good lead with more than a quarter and half left).

Both Offenses struggle in the first half. We are up by 3 at half time. get behind early in the second half. Then come back and take over late in the third quarter in a squeaker.
Half Time score bama 3 vatech 0
Final score bama 20 Vatech 13

A complete unknown...well, not complete

As a complete homer, I would like to say that a fairly new O-line (that match’s up against one of the nations best defenses daily), a QB that’s never started (even though by all accounts he’s a smart fellar), a stable of RBs that had the luxury of the upcoming NFL rookie of the year softening the defenses before attacking (although it’s a stout-looking stable), only one proven WR (given that that one WR is THE MAN & we’ve heard really good things about the surrounding cast) & a completely new TE transfer (highly-touted as he is) doesn’t really matter & in the end, it may not, but it is a concern non the less, especially going against a proven defense like Bud Fosters. It could very well turn out to be Bama vs. Clemson part 2, or they may be able to get the best of our O-line & confuse the heck out of McElroy.

However it turns out, our defense & special teams play will attribute for at least 14 points with our offense putting up at least 10 more (the homer in me says the offense will gel nicely so ‘probably more’). We will shut out the VT offense but their defense may score, therefore we’re looking at a final score of something like 24-7. But considering my brain is made of grits & gravy, I really have no idea. And please remember, time flies like an arrow but fruit flies like a banana.

My take re edited for Rbr.com.

I think you’ve read what I’ve read. But this is a first game, and a lot can happen in a first game. I do not underestimate Coach Beamer’s ability to get his team up for the game. I do believe they suffered a great loss with Darren Evan’s injury. But that creates 3 hungry players looking to prove themselves. Clemson had been resting on their Laurels and I hope we are not resting on ours. Remember our poor coverage on kicks against Clemson in the opener, and this year’s opponents actually believe in Beamer Ball, which can be dangerous. Containing Tyrod Taylor will be important. Okay, so we’ll have a spy in place. We analyzed this, and we have already crowned Bama the winner, and I think we jump the gun. Let’s not make them angry with our arrogance. Let’s not be so satisfied after last season. Let us be hungry and not braggish. I hope McElroy comes through, and I have faith that James Carpenter will come through, and we have already seen how important that position is. Let’s hope that Coach Saban has them up for the game, and Let’s hope that they are not unfocused because of recent distractions. I hope that BD can play, but I hope that he will make the right decision for the team—i.e. 100%, or please rest and heal. Chances are this is a time to use the depth that we have accumulated. Let’s play with heart. God Bless you and yorn, Virginia Tech. Let’s go get ’em. UTAH! UTAH!! UTAH!! UTAH!!!

It's not happening...

The returning players from last years halfhearted effort in the Sugar Bowl and the “new guys” that watched the game in embarrassment, will not take ANY team litghly ever again! Eight months of hearing everyone talk about Alabama losing the last two games will have have the Tide motivated! The O-line & McElroy will settle any fears that anyone has of our offense! Your so-called “streak” will end in less than 20 hours! Alabama will once again show that no conference, let alone the ACC, can handle a motivated SEC defense! Alabama WINS convincingly and shows the whole nation that Alabama football is back! By the way, don’t forget that we have a healthy Julio for the first time since the beginning of last season!!

bama 31 VT 10

VT is held to under 220 total yards offense. Bama gets just over 450 yards. Bama wins the special teams battle too, by not allowing a block or big return by VT, yet getting something big from Javy.

GMAC has a prototypical Bama Qb night, 17 for 26 w 210 yards.

The RB corps combines for 240 yards on 38 carries…

also we get to see Star Jackson, not int he wildcat, but under center in the 4th quarter, getting reps during garbage time.

we also dont move up to 4th next week either, not until USC and OU have lost do we pass them, we will not be ranked 3rd until the monday after the Red River Game.

Bama Beat Down in the Dome 2

My first prediction is just to say that Bama will win by 2 touchdowns, but now that it’s game day, I’ve added a defensive shut-out also. Bama will shut them down just to prove to everyone that they can. I first thought 24 – 10 would be the score. I’ll stick with the 24 from Bama, but we’ll go with the goose egg for the Hokies. So, 24 – 0 , and yes, that is my final answer. LOL
