Finally, college football is back. We'll have a unique game thread up later for the Alabama v. Virginia Tech game, but until then chime in with your thoughts on the rest of the games taking place here.
ed.- since the real fun is going on over at the twitter, here's a couple of widgets to follow along.

The look on...
….the Boise player’s (Hout?) face at that moment is priceless.
Roll Bama Roll - The Champagne of Bama Blogs.
Tennessee
looks physical and fast with Monte’s Cover 2. It’s such a basic defense and they’re playing it to perfection right now.
This might be the result of WKU being completely over-matched, but if the Hilltoppers can protect the LOS better and hit a few passes in the middle of the field, we’ll see what else Monte will do.
Tennessee’s offense looks good, but the Hilltoppers are 30 point dogs and they’re extremely weak up front, which shows considering UT’s O-line is pretty slight and they’re still getting a lot of push.
Still, it’s clear that Kiffin and his staff have infused a lot of enthusiasm and hustle in the Vols. They’re playing hard and dominating on defense. Their front four are whipping WKU’s line. WKU looks intimidated.
Crompton looks better, but again, it’s so hard to gauge because he has all day and his receivers are wide open.
Kiffin is still a cocky jackass.
So really, everything is going as expected.
MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--
BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.
Starting the third quarter
UT: 297 yards
WKU: 9 yards

Kiffin gambles
with a 28-0 lead, on his own side of the 50, on 4th and 4. Pass is batted down and now WKU, with 9 total yards of offense, has the ball inside of Tennessee territory.

wait till they play
real team….Vandy could bet WKU that bad….

WKU trying to work the middle of the field. On fourth and two at the Tennessee 38, the Hilltoppers run into a wall with a horrible playcall against 8+ in the box.
Andre Ware is right. WKU bunches it up and runs right at UT on 4th and 2, which is retarded considering how badly UT has dominated the line of scrimmage. WKU looks to have no confidence in their new quarterback and I can’t blame them. The kid looks like he was generated in a lab from Spencer Pennington and Brandon Avalos’s DNA.
I’ll watch one more series and then walk my dog. She has to pee and is whining. During the Bama game tonight, she will not have the luxury of pulling me away from the game.
Tennessee completes a quick hitch outside…easy yards. The young receivers don’t look bad (against WKU). Hardesty stopped after a two yard gain. Marsalis Teague comes up with a big catch down the seam. Again, the young receiver coming up big on a great throw by Crompton. Gain of 24.
WKU gets an INT on a deflection and their fans clap like people listening to a boring sermon. Time to walk the monster.
UT still playing that NFL style Over defense (SAM on the line over the TE) with a SAFETY in the box. It’s a 5-3 look and WKU keeps trying to run into it.
UK destroying Miami of Ohio and ruining my six team teaser!!! They need to give up a couple garbage TD’s.
Time to walk the dog. Screw gambling.

Thanks for the in-depth updates, they’re keeping me informed. I’m at work and RBR is not blocked, however the scoreboard on ESPN.com is. Go figure.

I am back
the monster peed and pooed. Good for her. Comfortable in her environment.
As I enter, WKU completes a drive, finding a good mix of plays against UT’s defense.
35-7 UT
Monte likes to use two three techniques occasionally, the old HUSKER D, and WKU ran right up the gut for a pretty easy score.

WTF!!
OSU…you bastards might just lose to Navy…

Ohio State...
…just threw an interception. Navy ball on Ohio State’s 33 yard line with 3:50 left to play. Ohio State is ahead 29-21.
^^ That’s the only game I can watch at the moment. But it just got much more interesting.
they need 8 to tie..
TD NAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scoring against Alabama will be like birthing a child: rare, painful, and messy. - The Ghost of Jay Cutler
UT
playing a lot of young players. Brown, Oku, NuKeese Richardson, Marsalis Teague, Myles…all the big names from their signing class last year are getting significant action.
Crompton still in the game. Bryce Brown rips through WKU for a 35 yard gain. Tennessee on the move again. Marsalis Teague is wide open and takes it to the WKU six as the third quarter ends. UT first and goal at the WKU six to start the fourth quarter. Crompton hits the 6’6 TE Stocker for the TD. WKU getting ZERO pressure on Crompton. 42-7. UT has beaten the Over/Under, which doesn’t matter.
WKU just fumbled another handoff. Now UT will definitely score close to 50.
Crompton is still in the game!!!
Next week’s Tennessee and CLA game will be interesting to watch. Chow has NFL experience and Kiffin’s Cover 2 can be beaten by a well-conceived passing offense like CLA’s. Good match-up of coaches, good test for UT. They look similar to Alabama in 2007 with some definite strengths, young talent, missing pieces, and a lack of depth behind some of their best players.

im sure UT fans
will pump their chest and try to say they will win 10 this year…play a non directional school and then you can talk…

They look very good
but it’s clearly a case that WKU has been overmatched and Kiffin is not worrying about hurting feelings because he’s throwing down field and trying to score as many points as he can.
They’re playing with a great deal of zeal, but you’re right. We’ll see how they handle a team who can makes plays stride for stride with them. The one thing that can bust the zeal and enthusiasm generated by a new coach is doubt and doubt will come the moment they are challenged. When they lose, whenever that is, that is when you’ll see the true measure of Kiffin as a coach.

Looks
like Navy’s taking the steam away from the big time OSU/USC game.
Damn, I should have bet on this game instead of the UK and Miami of Ohio game. Whatever, the stuff never goes as you expect.

Tennessee 550+ yards
WKU 79

Way to stay classy, Kiffikins.
I almost wish he’d get a starter or two injured, but I wouldn’t wish that on the players. It would serve him right, though. Thanks for the updates, btw. I’m also stuck at work.
nah
he needed to run the score up. Build confidence and get fan support….

As long as the score
doesn’t change, I’ll be happy.

UT...
63 pts, huh?
thats prob more than they scored all together last season…
impressive, but im not buying it. there was no D whatsoever to challenge the run.
UT is better than last year, but they are in for a surprise the next 2 weeks. then we will see….
Tigers Hide and rooooll that TIDE!
I honestly
believe no one outside the state of Tennessee stayed and watched the entire Tennessee scrimmage today.
Do ya'll know
who Corso picked for today’s game?

GMac plays better than Cox has…

Eh...
… if he plays as well as Cox is playing — a few nice passes, no turnovers, no big negative plays — we’ll probably be okay.
Of course I hope for better, but many have had worse debuts.

he's just been
way off on some really easy passes…

Oh I agree...
… he hasn’t looked very good, and honestly that touchdown should have been intercepted. Still, first start on the road against a top ten team, you have be pretty happy if you are an UGA fan right now.

is that game on TV?
wait…i wouldn’t watch it even if it was on…

Not that I'm aware of...
…but I’m watching the two teams flail at each other on ESPN’s gamecast. From what I can tell it’s pretty ugly so far.
I'm voting for...
… a last second scheduling change. I want to see Navy and San Jose State instead of Ohio State and USC for next week’s College Gameday on-site location.
Just kidding, really.

USC 7, SJS 3
SC just ran it in to go ahead, 10:47 left in the 2nd. Looks like SJS’s starting QB is out of the game.
i picked
Memphis just to be a dick…

Good choice...
… Memphis always plays them tough, and Ole Miss is very overrated.

I also picked...
Missouri over Illinois. At least that’s working out well so far. Now come on Georgia and LA Tech…

OSU
scores..

Well, this doesn't matter much now...
Prior to the Robinson to Bryant TD pass just now…
Zac Robinson was 4/11. Dez Bryant had been thrown to three times and dropped two. Kendall Hunter is averaging 2.9 YPC.
HUGE
play for the UGA D right here

… they are in major trouble right now.

Matt Millen
the best player Major Ogilvie ever faced in college.
Went to buy beer at halftime…just a twelve pack so I don’t go overboard…two teenagers standing outside the grocery store just asked me to buy them beer.
Notre Dame and USuCk are cruising. I love defense, but I long to see the day that Alabama has a QB who can complete bullet passes and light a defense up. We won’t have to play as many wars and get so many guys beat up.

No, I didn't buy them beer

Clausen
12-14 298 yards, 4 TDs.
What is it about blond California QB’s that makes my blood boil? Too many rules favor the offense.
UGA looking strong against the run, but they don’t seem to have enough offense to win a game like this. We’ll see.
I’m starting to think that in this day and age, you’ll need to be able to score 30+ a game to win because teams like Oklahoma State, Florida, Utah, and many others can make so much happen so quickly. Defense matters, but you need an offense with it if you’re going to win 12+ games and take home a title.
I don’t think a defense can stay on the field all day against offenses like these. 24 points used to be an unacceptable total, but against the new offenses that’s a reasonable goal for a good defense.

Agreed...
… honestly these offenses are just too good unless you can really score a lot of points in your own right. Unless you have a truly elite defense, they will get 20-24 points.

Did anyone else notice Saban in a suit and tie? Is that usual pregame attire or will we see a dressed up coach?

Looks like a rebuilding year
for UGA. Cox looked rough. Turnovers, turnovers……….
Got that winning feelin'
