Texas, the best team with McCoy ?

Well,is Texas a better team than Alabama with Colt McCoy in the line-up.

I haven't posted my opinion on BON because I'm not looking for a fight. I do want to post it here because it's driving me nuts that I'm told my team is not the better team even though the scored said othrewise. Before the game the Horn's fans were bragging of the best defense in the land And their offense would put up plenty of points while shutting our offense down( granted this is only 50% of the fans I'd encountered, but 50% of Texas is a lot).

We went into the game with 85 darn good players and some of those are Great Players and we'll see them on Sunday in the future. Our QB might not have had McCoy-esque numbers in this first year of starting but most of the time found a way to win. Our offensive line lost some key guys last year but the new guys stepped up to the plate. I think Ingram only started one game last year in the absence of an injured Coffee only to be aHeisman Trophy winning back this year.

I say this to make a point. We played togeher as a team. When we lost Hitower, other players stepped up. When McElroy had a horriffic game (SC) Ingram stepped up. When Ingram had a really bad game(AU)Trent and McElroy stepped up The Tide is not a one man band. We've played through advirsity all year and survived.

On the other hand you have Texas. They have lost one game in the last two years (Before the BCSCG). Colt McCoy has been awesome over this period and is a great kid to boot. I have no issues against this team and will pull for them in the future. I do have issues with those Texas fans that say the Horns had a better team than Bama when Colt McCoy was on the field. A team , once again, has 85 players on its roster. If the Horns has one player so valuable that if he's lost your no longer the best so called Team in the nation I don't see how they can consider themselves the best Team in the nation He may even been the best player in the nation(Ingram and the voters might not agree).

If this is truely the case, and Texas has built a team totally around one man does ths mean you have poor coaching? Do you impeach someone for building a team around one player. I certainly couldn't see Saban building a Team around one player.

Sorry for the rant but I just am getting Tired of the Texas fans WHO ARE saying they had a better team than Alabama but then we knocked McCoy out of the game.

The University of Alabama has the Best Team in the nation !

keep in mind...

the game on thursday is just one measure of the “best” team in the nation. there were 118 poll voters – that would be all of them – chose to put alabama at no.1 over a texas squad which still, technically, boasts mccoy on the roster.

“What if McCoy didn’t get hurt!?” is the same thing as “What if McCoy played for Alabama?”

I'm wrong all the time.

what if Bradford had played for OK against TX

Does anyone remember that he got knocked out early? Does anyone say they had the better team?

Pointless discussion

We can never know what would have happened. We can only speculate. If I was a UT fan, I would undoubtedly think Texas would win. As an Alabama fan, I see lot of reasons to speculate that Bama would have won anyway.

Ultimately, what happened happened. We won fair and square. We earned it on the field. Alabama is the champion, end of story.

Eddie Lacey qualified…

What would be the excuses then?

What if...

they did not throw that shuttle pass…
Trent does not get loose for a 50 yard run…
Anders had been blocked…
They had not dropped that TD pass…

Man the more I think about it Texas is probably the best team of this generation, they just had some bad breaks—NOT!

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

Keep drinkin coolaid

The real question is: Was Colt McCoy’s injury a fluke accident or by design? It looked as if it could’ve been deliberate. 300+ lb lineman leading with helmet into throwing arm of Colt’s shoulder when he was already stopped. Hmmmmm. Maybe not intentional, but sure was “convenient”. Let’s face it, if McElroy got hurt bama would’ve been fine. Anybody can hand the ball off to Ingram. He’s not a passing threat. Colt was the only player (outside Jordan Shipley) that could not be lost because of the type of offense Texas runs. The teams couldn’t be more opposite. Hence, the QB in a spread offense is much more important than a classic run first offense like bama. Knowing this, and knowing that Texas had the ability to light up the scoreboard with a quick strike offense must’ve scared Saban…or at the very least, his def coordinator. If Colt had been in the game, those first two drives would’ve ended in TD’s not FG’s. Hence, Texas would’ve played with the lead the entire game…forcing bama out of their comfort zone of “run first” to start trying to throw the ball..which didn’t work so good against the Texas defense. As it turned out, we had to rely on a true freshman to come bail the team out. Colt’s inury really rattled the confidence of the team for the entire 1st half. They regrou[ed at half-time and made a game of it, but you can’t expect a true freshman to pull off a miracle. The subtraction of Colt also meant the subtraction of 70% of Texas’ offense. Bama is built for power and ball control. Texas is built for speed and quick strike. Both styles are very effective if you have the right personnel. And just FYI…Texas never said they had a great run D…that was the media quoting stats. Everybody knows that the Big 12 is not a heavy run division. BOTTOM LINE: You got your trophy, but it comes with an asterisk. Like it or not, everyone (outside the SEC) will always say, “Yeah, bama won, but…”

by Recl on Jan 12, 2010 12:51 AM CST reply actions

If Colt had been in the game, those first two drives would’ve ended in TD’s not FG’s.

First drive: 1st and goal from the 2 yard line. You don’t need a freaking all American QB to get a touchdown out of that. Blaming that goal-line stand on the absence of McCoy is ridiculous. It’s questionable whether they’d even try a pass if McCoy was the QB.

Second drive: Starting at the 30. There’s no guarantee Texas gains a single yard if McCoy was still in the game. Still, on the key 3rd down play the problem was your receiver dropping a pass that hit him in the hands. So once again, the idea that McCoy would have made the difference is VERY questionable.

Bottom line is saying the game would have been 14-0 with McCoy in the lineup is wishful thinking.

As far as the hit was concerned, you have to be joking. I’m sure you’re aware that you have to actually TACKLE people for them to be counted as down, unless their momentum is clearly stopped. Colt was just coming to a stop when the hit occurred. Bottom line is if you don’t want those 300lb lineman hitting him, then don’t use designed runs in which you forfeit the special protection rules designed to protect QB’s.

What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

At first i thought you were just joking...

then i realized your are really an idiot!

Would there be an asterisk on the game had tejas won knowing that McElroy was playing with broken ribs, or Ingram with a hurt foot or McClain not 100% playing sick …oh wait a minute, that’s the what if game again and it has been played out to its fullest.

BAMA won cry baby…GET OVER IT!

We don't have enough room left in our trophy case to put the asterik

So in all fairness, I think we should let Texas have it and put it in theirs.

that is a total win win

this way both schools have somthing from the game they can show to visiting recruits and such. also, it’ll be a treat for the texas playewrs to get to pose for pictures with the asterisk, take turns bringing it home for the weekend. they can try to drink beer out of it… it’ll be fun for them, and they do deserve some sort of reward for their effort.

we’ll be just fine with the crystal ball though.

Colt is lucky he got put out of the game...

He probably wouldnt be walking currently if he hadn’t…he is a fortunate fellow. And Texas loses either way, perhaps by more with colt in the game. BTW, Colt is a 100% class guy and I hate couldn’t play…I recommend UT fans see his post game remarks and follow his lead.

Seriously? Intentional?

You are an asshole. Even your own kind know that it was a freak injury, brought on by a poor playcall and poor execution, and that there was nothing malicious or illegal about it. Saying otherwise is the worst sort of sportsmanship, and you make every Texas fan in the world look bad in doing it. Which probably means that you’re an Aggie fan or an Auburn fan trolling. Like I said, you’re an asshole.
