Its hard Ingram's play was great

But that stiff arm and the importance of that play are so much greater.

This is one of my top two picks

with the other being TR against Arky.

I hate that...

this is gonna be up against Rocky Block next. I don’t think it stands much of a chance of advancing. That’s OK, Anders’ forced fumble is the lasting image, in my mind. It will advance far into this competition, I think.

I had to pick Dareus for two reasons:

1. He throttled that rookie into the ground.
2. He was so excited, he tossed the ball and drew a penalty after the touchdown. I doubt he was scolded by saban on that one!

looking at that again

it almost looks like he was tossing it to the ref, but was so juiced it goes way over his head.

never mind. He was just tossing it away. Deserved penalty.

oh

it should have been three reasons:

3. Its the championship game, right before half. I real kick in the nuts and demoralizing.

i also love eryk anders

in the dareus td video. he smacks a lineman in the mouth and points the way to the endzone in case marcell is disoriented after the ballerina spin move…

Knowing the majority would pick Marcel

I picked Ingram’s play, mainly because I think that it was around this time in the season that he started to solidify himself as a Heisman candidate. And we all know how that ended.

by bumblebeetuna on Jan 19, 2010 8:19 AM CST reply actions

I can’t believe Rocky Block is not on the other side of the bracket. In my opinion, Rocky Block and Dareus’ TD should battle it out for best moment

Although PJ’s tackle is going to get my vote as long as it lives as well

by The Beard on Jan 19, 2010 8:30 AM CST up reply actions

Wow, so round 2 will pit this play against Rocky Block

Tough seeding there. Those are probably my pick for top 2 plays of the entire season.

by RedElephant on Jan 19, 2010 8:29 AM CST reply actions

We definitely need a re-seed after each round.

Actually...

…I had planned on putting them into a more traditional looking bracket when we got to the sweet sixteen (couldn’t find any for 32 that were big enough to make the text legible and damn sure wasn’t going to draw one myself), so re-seeding is definitely a thought. It would be a shame if Rocky Stop didn’t at least make the elite eight.

So, you're saying

that next round is really the defacto national championship of national championship season plays? SECCG anyone?

"Which play made you happier?"

It depends. Are we asking which play made us happier at the time, or which one makes us happier now?

If we’re talking about which one made me happier at the time, I think Ingram’s touchdown would have to get my vote. It was at the end of what had been a scoreless first half, and brought a sense of relief and reassurance that we would be able to win the game. Dareus’ INT, on the other hand, was an exclamation point on a dominant second quarter—although it was the national championship game.

From an end-of-season perspective, though, Dareus’ TD makes me happier. Ingram’s TD was great, of course, but he had several that were more impressive. Defensive linemen don’t generally score touchdowns, and they never intercept passes. Eli said on the radio at the time, “He looked like Baryshnikov doing a pirouette at the 10!” This one would easily get my vote if we’re talking about hindsight.

They were both...

…wonderful in the moment. I don’t recall the mood in the room being widely different than that of any other ‘big’ play when Ingram scored (although I do remember a great sense of relief), but there was pandemonium when Dareus scored. What a poor decision by the Texas staff. What a wonderful moment for Alabama football. Men and women were hugging and kissing each other. Children were being thrown into the air. Dogs and cats, living together! Awesomeness.

This

is my favorite moment of the entire season I believe……not just the play…..but that moment when Gilbert thinks he is going to stop Marcel, and Marcel just plants his ass……

by p3bhambama on Jan 20, 2010 1:28 AM CST up reply actions

Dareus by a mile

Simply due to the importance of the play. We throttled an overrated Ole Miss team the whole sixty minutes, and while this was big in that it was our only venture into the end zone that day, I think we’d still have won the game without it. It’s hard to say that about the Dareus INT.

by Darby Up The Middle on Jan 19, 2010 9:02 AM CST reply actions

I want to know who these 30 people are

that, in retrospect, were happier about Ingram’s TD run than our best pass-rusher making a helluva individual effort, in the National Championship, that all-but crippled the horns?

You can't pack any more ownage

into a single play beyond what Darius managed, so I gave him my vote.

by Alakablamo on Jan 19, 2010 9:57 AM CST reply actions

Darius just stepped all over Gilbert after the INT...

I can hear Darius while he was stiff arming Gilbert….“you my Mcneal” Priceless moment in Alabama Football.

If you have the game on your DVR watch the before and after clip of Mac Brown on the sidelines. Before the pic he has his headset on and looks to be scheming a play to get Texas into hailmary/FG range, notice the color of his face (white boy white). Then after the play…no headset, his emotion is that of a lost kitty, his face has completly changed color to burnt orange. Funny stuff, at least to me.

Your temper brings dishonor to my happy mooshu palace.

by mulletover on Jan 19, 2010 11:21 AM CST reply actions

What I want to know...

…is why Gilbert wasn’t flagged for ripping his helmet off in frustration ON THE FIELD. Should’ve offset Darius’ throwing it across the endzone. I’m just saying.

In fact,

doesn’t ripping one’s helmet off give an automatic win to the other team. We shouldn’t have even had to play the second half!

Final Four will be:

Marcel Dareus TD
Ingram Wins Heisman

Ander’s Forced Fumble
Screen to Ingram

I’m almost positive Ander’s Forced Fumble will get to the finals but it’s a toss up between the other two. Champion will be Forced Fumble since that won us a national title.

by Siggy778 on Jan 19, 2010 2:36 PM CST reply actions

"won us a national title"

Not being contrarian, but without any of these plays, we don’t win a nation title (except maybe Ingram’s run against Cowbell U)…
