Urban Meyer To "Die" For Recruit
Apparently it's God's will for Meyer to coach 5-star DT recruit Sharrif Floyd. There is some back-and-forth about the legitimacy of the story, but if you see Meyer keel over on the sidelines this coming season, remember... It's God's work.
From Deadspin.com:
Sharrif was really confused and put a call into Coach Meyer. When they spoke Coach Meyer told him that he had a ‘dream' the night before, and that Coach Meyer saw himself on the sideline coaching Sharrif. Told him that is was a "message from God that I should come back and coach, as I guess if it's my time to die, I'd rather die on the sidelines coaching you than anywhere else in the world.
"Sharrif talked to us the next day and said Ohio State is great and all, but Coach Meyer said he would DIE for me. That's pretty intense. From that day on Sharrif mainly kept to himself. But that was the turning point in my eyes."

Dude
I strongly doubt that’s true. Deadspin (who never spoke to anyone involved in the story themselves) attributes it to a messageboard. Which, if you believe those, I guess Alabama’s going to go rouge from the SEC and win eleventy national championships in a row to take down John Wooden’s record.
Yeah
and you know Deadspin just loves running with a story like this. They are the quintessential 150lb snarky-elitist-asshole-jerksoffalot-writer blog. But they can be entertaining. But only when they mock things I don’t care for.

I do believe...
that Meyer is still recruiting/coaching and the whole charade was a publicity stunt to bring renewed interest to Florida football (Post Tebow era). The gator’s shellacing of Cinci was Tebow’s reward to Meyer for pulling it off.

a little cynical, no?
I mean, I have no doubt he’s still recruiting either, but his health problems have been pretty well-documented. My thought is he probably either a) had a change of heart, b) got pressured into staying, or some mix of the 2.

News Flash
Meyer will be coaching spring ball. He tried a leave for a day and a half and couldn’t take it anymore.
Try not to be so gullible…

I don't think it is true
but the sad thing is Urban Meyer could actually die because he won’t slow down.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Floridas doing and saying all the right things to recruits.
Florida seems to be a recruiting machine in the biggest recruiting hot bed in the nation. Their 2010 recruiting class is the best in the history of NCAA football. The bad news for them is only 11 guys get on the field at any given time. Tere’s a ton of talent in the state of Florida. Miami and Florida State can’t seem to get their asses in gear to challenge Florida for these top players. For some reason Florida, with or without coaching stability is the premier school in recruits minds.
I predict that in two years you’ll see several of these blue chip players starting to transfer due to lack of playing time.
Your temper brings dishonor to my happy mooshu palace.
Hmmm

Probably has something to do with the two national championships in the last four years combined with a bunch of ????s and non-top-to-bottom-elite talent at the other in state schools.

Hats off to the gators.........
They are taking advantage of the turmoil in seminole land with the question of what will the “new boss, same as the old boss” bring to FSU. And the Randy Shannon mediocre miami machine that can’t decide how to play. And on top of it all, who really wants to play in the ACC? It’s a conference that can’t sell hardly half the tickets to its championship game. The SEC is where your seen, and that’s what its all about today.
I don't mind bad news, and I don't mind good news, but I can't stand surprises! Coach Nick Saban
get on with it urban
for the next five days there is nothing in my heart but hate. pure, untempered, ice-cold hate. fond memories are for saturday. - Kleph
I don't think
Urban faked his heart thing. In order to do that he would have to be a great actor to fool doctors, EMT’s etc. I mean he was rushed to the hospitla a few times. There are enough reports, enough eye witnesses etc. to say that he did have a serious problem. Does he still have a problem? Only time will tell.
But don’t say he faked it unless you know for a fact he faked it because when something bad does happen to him you will feel bad.
And besides, I don’t see how faking this thing helps UF. They already had this class sowed up before the problem became public. To me it would seem wiser to cover it up to keep form scaring recruits away, etc.
Coach Bryant had several mini strokes his last few years and they were covered up to keep other teams from using it against Bama.
Personally I think Urban has a problem that would cause a wise man to back away. But, he can’t quit and so he goes on walking a tight rope, hoping nothing bad happens.

It is possible to be so stressed....
to cause chest tightness and make one think they’re having a heart attack. If you look back at Saban’s reaction to Julio not getting off the field and compare that to Meyer’s reaction to Arenas’ pick in the endzone (ah shucks!! slowly throwing his headset.), we should be more concerned about Saban’s health.
Urban Meyer is a grown man and is responsible for his decisions. If he wants the gator nation to run his life, so be it. Let him start losing and watch how fast the fans turn on him like a Salem witch hunt.

heart or heart?
The meds meter received at the hospital had absolutely nothing to do with dehydration or his heart, look up naloxone and ask yourself why there is no record of him receiving it? sounds fishy to me!
This qoute from Gator Country sums up Meyer perfectly...
Football is a two-edge sword for Meyer – one that cuts out his heart when he loses games and one that exalts him to the top of the football mountain when all is well.

Meyer is using.....
college football’s version of the “rope-a-dope”.
"There are two methods of fighting--the one by persuasion, the other by force; the first method is that of man, the second of beasts; but as the first method is often insufficient, one must have recourse to the second. It is therefore necessary for a prince to know well how to use both the beast and the man"-- Machiavelli
