Alabama will meet with keenan allen this evening.
Bo Davis will be visiting Keenan Allen in his home tonight. I fully expect that, regardless of whether or not we find out publicly right away, this meeting will resolve the Allen situation one way or the other. Either he affirms his commitment to us or he goes elsewhere, and by the end of the night our staff should know. If he chooses to go elsewhere, pay close attention to Menzie because that is who we will almost certainly turn to. If you see hints of a committing from him, you can about bet your bottom dollar that Allen is gone.
Also, as Gentry Estes posts, it looks more and more like Allen and his brother will play together at the next level, so the only way to get Allen may be to offer his brother too. Frankly, while I suppose that's possible, I would personally be shocked if Saban agreed to do that. If that happens, I suppose we'll have signed ol' Reuben Randle after all.
P.S. I have read nothing indicating that Jim McElwain would be visiting Allen as well, and I would imagine that he would tag along to get a first-hand look at his new quarterback prospect if we indeed were going to offer Maynard.

Doesn't his brother have to

I understand Allen and Maynard have a cousin who's a 5* type WR in next year's class
If that’s the case, I lean towards an offer to Maynard being worth it. He threw for 2700 yards last year, so it’s not like he’d be a bad emergency option at QB. That is, unless you’d have to go back on your word to another kid to do so, which seems likely.
I agree...
….as long as we dont go back on another kid. It looks like Maynard isn’t a half bad QB. According to his stats he lit up Pittsburgh for 400 yards and 4 TD’s.
Is it next wed. yet?
8 or 13 It's more than your school. You can call Bama's fans what you want while your thinking of the national title.
i'm really starting to develop
a “screw keenan allen” feeling over here.

Make it three
If you look at what Saban and company did with the secondary we’ve just lost. Those guys weren’t highly touted but were taught to be great defenders. We have some really talented players on our roster, we’ll be ok. Let him take his ball and go home cause we won’t play his game. And if they would use him as a reciever, to hear others tell it we don’t throw anyways. I feel it’s his loss. He is going to be very good but under Saban he could be great. But anyways, I wish him luck cause we’ll be ok.

seriously guys?
We don’t know anything at all about this kid, his motivation, his family situation, etc. Not shit. Now yall are going to sit here and pass judgement on this kid for a perceived problem with his attitude and work ethic? Way to keep it classy, fellas. I would expect that at al.com, but I love this site b/c it’s usually above that.

That statement actually reminded me that this site is a blog as well, and not a few good friends sitting around talking football respectively.
I will say . . .
“Screw Keenan Allen” when Coach Saban tells us to. Until then, I’ll just assume that he’s worth all of this trouble and attention.

Yep, I would love to have Allen
and will be disappointed if he doesn’t stick with his commit, but I can’t fault a guy for trying to help his brother out if he has the opportunity to do so. Family comes first so I can understand his motivation.
holy dramatic batman
take a deep breath. i didn’t question anything about him, other than maybe whether or not he really wants to be a part of this program. the great ben harper once said “i’d rather walk alone than chase you around,” and that’s how i feel. now here’s your offer, no we don’t want your half brother, and if that’s a deal breaker than have fun at the holiday/peach bowl.
and i’ve never commented on al.com in my life. hell i don’t even go there unless this site links to it.

I'm just tired of the
give his brother an offer if that’s what it takes to get him. Maybe I was a little qwik to say he’s takin his ball and goin home but IF that is what’s goin on I still say we’re better off without him. Sorry if thats not politically correct. If this were to happen to another team which you had no interest in you’d probably say, " Saban would never p-lay that game". Then maybe I’m totally off base !

i dunno, i'm just not too worried about this cat
I think he was just trying to help his bro out. If he were seriously considering Clemson, I think he woulda decommitted by now

OTS,
why would we take Menzie when we wouldn’t take Bolton? Thought we had a strict policy on juco guys coming in before summer? Is this just b/c we have a need in our secondary?

I think you touched on it...
… we just need cornerbacks a lot more than we need linebackers. A JUCO corner could come in over the summer and legitimately compete for a lot of playing time. A guy like Bolton, though, was at absolute best going to be a special teams contributor.

speaking of the secondary that we are losing...
….does anyone know where Kareem Jackson is being forecasted “relative” to the NFL draft? (Saban speak) Also, does anyone here beleive he would have benefitted coming back for his senior season?
FWIW
Todd McShay placed Kareem as the 2nd best cover corner in the draft behind Joe Haden and said early second rd at worst. I don’t mind McShay; hell, at least he isn’t Mel Kiper, that guy failed at life. I know Saban wanted him to stay, but I didn’t think he had much to gain by it. He was already 4 years outta high school (he spent a year at prep school) and the shelf life of an NFL db can be short since it’s all predicated on quickness. That being said, we sure coulda used him next year to lead that young talent we’ve got.

Allen
I would not write him off,and I don’t understand the dissension toward’s him by some here.A lot of these blue chippers wait until signing day to declare their school.I cannot get into the psyche of a teenage athlete with so much recruiting pressure on them.No one on here says anything when we ’’steal’’a wavering recruit from another program.Keenan Allen is a baller and would take serious heat off of Julio on the other side.
Not to mention he could be the pipeline to North Carolina recruiting.Word travels fast about a great program, and could resonate within that state.
Especially when a stud prospect like Allen commits.
as well as Alfy Hill and Phil Sims
those 3 could really open up the mid-atlantic for us to reap dividends

So far seems he’s sticking by family and his brother who I am sure he’d love to play with. I applaud that, even if it means he doesn’t come to the Capstone. I doubt our coaches would offer a schollie to a lesser player just to get a better one when we still have options. If he starts looking like a prima donna who’s trying to play games, I’m sure our coaches will back off . Until then, I’ll defer to assigning better intentions to the kid, and wish him luck, wherever he decides to go.
I predict that Allen stays with Bama . . .
but if he doesn’t, it leaves a spot open for another 5-star next year.
It’s widely known that Saban and his staff work harder at recruiting than any other coaching staff in the U.S. Allen knows everything about Bama that it is possible for him to know at this point in his life. If he decides to renege on his commitment, for whatever reason, it’s probably for the best for all concerned.
