Junior college defensive back Dequan Menzie committed to Alabama as expected last night, making the 26th expected addition to Wednesday's 2010 signing class. Menzie confirmed the news tonight to the Press-Register, saying he committed during a visit from Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.Gentry Estes: Defensive back Dequan Menzie commits to Alabama Good news on the recruiting trails tonight, as 'Bama has picked up the commitment of Dequan Menzie. The 5'11 and 200 pound JUCO cornerback is originally from Columbus, Georgia, is rated a four-star by both Scout and Rivals, and has three years left to play out his final two years of eligibility (i.e. he has a redshirt year available if needed). Menzie's addition is a fairly big one for 'Bama in 2010 because at the very least he ought to provide us a serviceable corner who gets a lot of meaningful playing time, all of which will be key given what all we lose in the defensive backfield. With all of that said, however, you can bet your life that this means that one of the current commitments will not make it. Now, I don't know exactly who will not make it. Perhaps this is the staff throwing in the towel on Keenan Allen, or perhaps this is the sign that Deion Belue will not qualify / may not sign with Alabama. Or perhaps this is a sign on Corey Grant, or perhaps some other current commitment that just comes out of nowhere. Again, I don't know exactly who this means will not make it, but I do feel that you can almost bet the bottom dollar that someone will indeed not make it. Menzie is a good addition to this class, but realistically the room just is not there unless one of the current commitments goes away.
