"And if we do that as a team...11 at the time...why, we'll be walking out of here national champions. And I tell you this...I expect nothing less."

What it means to me; a brief personal (but not unique) experience
I came to the University of Alabama in 1999 as an undergraduate student and immediately began my love affair with the Crimson Tide. I grew up in that other, far inferior fandom of the fair state of Alabama, I admit, but I have suffered for the Tide. Did I not see the lame duck last year under Mike Dubose; the treachery of Dennis Franchione; the abortion of Mike Price; the agony of the years under Mike Shula? Was I not on campus when Brodie Croyle stood in front of cameras and begged newly-minted President Robert Witt not to fire Price in-between spring practice and the season? Did I not stand in the freezing rain to watch my Tide lose a battle of FIELD GOALS to Auburn University? Was I not robbed of the chance to see my tide defeat that cow college in person through an eight year time span (undergraduate, master’s and doctoral)? Did I not see a murderer’s row of huge quarterbacks and running backs from teams like Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, and seemingly the entire rest of the SEC simply OUT MAN our poorly coached and under-sized defenses year after year. Was I not there? Did I not see it with my own eyes? Did I not DIE a little each time?
What remuneration can I have for these and MANY other offences. A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!
I WANT it, and in as much as any fan can, I have EARNED it. We ALL HAVE. And so, now, have our current group of crimson warriors. It is there in front of you, TAKE IT! Vandals clad in a hideous shade of orange once again want to snatch it from you. Don’t let them; BEAT THEM OFF; EARN IT ONCE AND FOR ALL; TAKE IT!

skilet1--well said!
You spoke what I was feeling! Ugh, that freezing rain loss to Auburn—we all almost died of hypothermia! This is our time. This is for all of us!

As a Texas fan
who has also lived for four years in the heart of Alabama, I can absolutely appreciate the history of the University of Alabama. I bowled in a league with some of the most hardcore fans I had ever seen! One guy hadnt missed attending even one Tide game in something like 7 years, INCLUDING road and bowl games. Bear Bryant’s speech is the epitome of the Alabama Crimson Tide and I appreciate that. I appreciate what you guys have as a fan base and a history. While I will be rooting for Texas, if we do lose, and I really hope it doesnt happen, but if we do, I cant imagine losing to a team other than the Tide. Good luck to your boys tomorrow and here’s to an injury free game!
HOOK ’EM!
The "Big Bang" was actually a Will Muschamp chestbump......with the Earth!

You think that’s impressive? Check out Alabama fan Dick Coffee here:
Dick Coffee of Birmingham hasn’t missed an Alabama football game since he was a freshman at UA in the fall of 1946 — a streak that now stands at 740 consecutive games and counting — but his streak began the season after Alabama last played in the Rose Bowl.
I’ve seen other full-length articles about him, but that’s the only one I could find on short notice.
