How are y'all handling the haters?

I've never been a guy to talk trash.  It's not my style.  The people around me should know this by now.  I try not to be obnoxious with my fandom.  I realize that most of my peers like other teams or don't like Alabama.  Good for them.  Jump on the popular team's bandwagon, root for the local team, root for your old college, et cetera.  It's their business.  I try to be the good guy.  We win, I show my appreciation quietly.  And I root for one team.

And yet, the moment we lose, every dickhead--sorry, but there is no other way to refer to them--I know has to walk up to me with an obnoxious grin and say, "Hey, what happened to Bama?" or "Hey, Bama lost!  Did you see it?"

No, dickhead, I had no idea.  They played Saturday?  Against who?  Why didn't you tell me sooner so I could have cancelled my assclown lessons to watch my Alma Mater?  Oh, pardon!

So, my question is directed at everyone, but especially those in God's country.  How are y'all handling the haters today?  Has anyone broken a bottle over anyone's head?  Anyone pushed someone through a window?  Vomited in someone's face?  Has anyone smiled at their obnoxious question, subtly grabbed them lovingly behind the head, and then violently smashed their nose into your knee before they could comprehend you weren't coming on to them?  In other words, how are we doing today?

FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

So far

I have only had a few come up to me and say “what happened to Bama” but when I did I politely said “they got beat” I don’t elaborate on it and I don’t make excuses for the Tide and I don’t have to defend them. Their record in their last two seasons speaks for itself. I am like you, when Bama was rolling I was glad they were winning and enjoyed the ride. I wasn’t obnoxious about it. I am married to a huge Auburn fan but she said nothing because I say nothing when Auburn gets their ass handed to them. This season isnt over and I know that we will get better and if the good lord is willing we may even get to see Alabama play SC again. It could happen….

My wife's an Auburn fan.

She went to another school; she did it just to be a rebel, since the entire family otherwise, both mine and hers, are Bama fans.

No haters encountered yet. I continue with your approach. Rock on, etc.

I found my bright side...

No more hearing the “McElroy hasn’t lost a game since 8th grade” line. It was getting old last season. Small bright spot, but it’s something. And any non-Bama fans are just jealous haters anyway… so I could care less what they say.

Right

Now all we are going to hear is, ‘Greg McElroy hadn’t lost a game until SC handed his ass to him on a platter on October 9th’. Or something to that effect anyway. I’m really looking forward to that.

Lots of haters

Even here in NC. People like seeing the best get beaten. I’ve acknowledged that the win wasn’t a fluke, that SC kicked our defense’s ass all over the field, and that their 3rd quarter drive was one of the finer demonstrations of a real competitive spirit and killer instinct outside of those shown by Bama in the past two years.

Many haters ...

I live in Louisiana so you know all my close friends, family, neighbors, people on every street are LSU fans. And I am quite an energetic fan when I watch games and I get really into football. But I do not get in anyone’s face or tell them about their team. Never.
My phone rang all Saturady night and received text messages all night. After some colorful conversations and threats, I now have a few less friends for a couple of weeks.

I just do not get ...

why people call or yell at others after a game. My friends and family know how I get so to do things like call, text, put shit on my truck from opposing teams (yeah no shit).

They know you’re pissed off and want to end your life so they do it just to either make you feel worse or to make them feel better – both are f*%ked answers.

Well Bamagrad, lets see...

First, want to say I love your posts and you have my respect.

As for the Haters…

1. AU and Tenn fans can kiss my arse and they can F off. The AU fans are a special kinda ass.

2. The Virginia Tech fans (I live in Va) are a special kind of arrogant. I just say how was that JMU game and at least we lost to a ranked SEC team and not JMU.

3. The USC fans were classy about winning. At least the ones I know.

4. The random jackass fans, showed up in my moment of darkness to kick me. My answer, our team is better than the Washington Redskins you ass.

Let’s not forget the “you take Alabama football to seriously people.” Who say its just a game and there is always next year. My answer, I live, breathe, and bleed Alabama football. No it is not just a game and this loss does matter. There is no next year, only this year, next year remains to be seen. There is a minimum of 6 games left and each game matters no matter our record. So Roll Tide and F off. Go watch lifetime you twit.

Other than that, all is well. How bout you BamaGrad?

(Disclaimer: This is The GTO Judge’s mobile posts so you are being warned of the following: The Judge can not spell and his grammar ain’t no good. Seriously on the VaTech fans

My wife works with a VaTech fan who basically said “OMG I HATE YOU B/C YOU WENT TO BAMA” and she was basically like “uh, who is VaTech and why do you guys hate us so much?”

After the JMU game my wife told the VaTech fan that the Hokies should be put on aspiration precautions since they keep choking (she works in a hospital…). That went over really, really well.

That's great

The people who really annoy me are the casual fans. I’m talking about the ones who will claim one team one week but then dump that team once it’s clear someone else is better. Today a guy with whom I work wore some Ohio State gear and I was puzzeled. He had to say, “Look who’s number one!” I would have said, “I’ve got your number one right here” and flicked him off but there were suits around.

I notice this trend a lot with MLB and the NFL

A huge spike in Red Sox caps a few years back. And then I see cycles of Colts caps, Steelers gear, and now Saints gear/bumper stickers. I know there will be a lot of people around here who are already Saints fans because of the location, but I swear there are 5 times as many Saints bumper stickers around Tuscaloosa as there used to be.

As a Falcons fan in Tuscaloosa

I can’t help but notice the Saints explosion too. All the “WHO DAT”s on Facebook after the Superbowl made me pretty ill. Except for one friend who is actually from NO, none of them knew who the Saints were before then.
As this year has shown for both the Saints and Bama, one good loss knocks the bandwagon fans out of commission.

by AccioAlabama on Oct 11, 2010 9:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Definitely on the Saints...

Suddenly just about the entire southeast turns into lifelong diehard Saints fans around November of last year. About like everyone turned into lifelong diehard Braves fans circa late July of 1991.

by SRGBama on Oct 13, 2010 5:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Simple...

I’ve liked the Yankees since I was a kid. My Dad was a Yankees fan, and it passed on. I’ve always wanted to live in New York, so that was just natural. Besides, ’Bama and the Yankees are kind of one the same plane… tradition, huge fan base, passionate support, loathed by many, etc.

The Pats are a bit of a different story. The girl is a Pats fan so that helps, and honestly it’s Bill. If you like Saban as a coach, then you ought to be a Pats fan. Those two could pass for twins as similar as they are.

For bandwagons, though, if that’s the case I didn’t do a good job of picking them. Last year notwithstanding, it’s been a pretty tough decade for the Yankees, and there has been a hell of a lot more heartbreak than championships. They’ve won a lot of games in that span, but they haven’t won much in October when it counted. As for the Pats, they’ve had a great run under Belichick, but the past three or four years haven’t been exactly memorable. ’07 was the biggest bed shitting in the history of sports, and the rest of those years have basically been a bunch of 10-6 type seasons featuring questionable draft classes and an aging team.

POST FAIL.

Whoa, that was a bad one.

Can’t argue with your logic.

Baseball: Cubs fan since 1981, when we got our first cable in rural AL, and Harry Caray was on every afternoon when school got out. Yes, I know they’ve been mathematically eliminated for 2011 already…

NFL: Cowboys fan since Lee Roy Jordan and Roger Staubach. Grew up in El Paso and San Antonio. Never quit on them, in spite of the difficulty of America’s Team BS and worse yet Jerry Jones.

Alabama football runs in my family (Dad’s side all from AL, mostly still here). Dad taught ROTC at UA in 1958, while Mom finished her degree. Dad still says ‘58 may have been Bryant’s best coaching feat, turning around years of darkness so quickly.

I'm all right today, primarily because I saw this as the game that would end the streak

I get it from a variety of people because they know I take it personally even though I don’t rub in our victories. The losses do hurt no matter what kind of spin I/we try to put on it. It sucks. One of my buddies gets it and he has said only nice things because he knows. He’s a Trojan’s fan and when they lost to Texas he took two sick days and didn’t smile for almost a week.

Other people know how I am because they’ve seen me lock-in on the TV with supernatural intensity when Bama was featured. And my stress level before games shows them I take it too seriously. Frankly, I don’t care. All I need is my dog, my TV, and a goodlookin’ woman and I’ll be all right.

I already mentioned

that after the game someone sent me something that rubbed me the wrong way in a post. here on RBR. But I will tell here exactly what she did. I got a message from Facebook saying that I had been tagged in her post. I read her post and it said that her daughter’s alma mater (So. Car.) was 5 minutes away from beating Alabama. She then went on to say that she bet I was having a heart attack and linked back to my FB account with my first and last name as the link. This left me open to getting messages from all her friends and all her daughter’s friends. I quickly unlinked myself from her post and decided to sleep on it before I did anything. So I posted my little response here on RBR and linked it to my FB.

My husband thought that I was being overly sensitive. And I am sure I was. But she is just as big of a fan of her team as I am, so she should understand. Apparently not. I would never leave her open to getting a ton of messages from FB people that she didn’t even know if she lost. I would send her a private message and tell her that I was sorry she lost. Seriously, I would.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the person who did this is actually an Ohio State fan whose daughter goes to So. Car.

Unfortunately facebook encourages violation of privacy

Whenever you put in someone’s name Facebook thinks it would be cooler if you linked it! I’m certainly not trying to defend this person, because that just sucks. Really, the only people who should have been tagged in that post are fellow SC fans. Nothing wrong with making the post celebrating it, but keep it celebratory instead of taunting.

“Are you a South Carolina fan?”

To which everyone that had harrased me respond “no.”

I then said, “So you must be either an Ohio State or an Oregon fan because apart form those two schools I don’t see what it really mattered to anyone else. So tell me, are you a Duck or a Buck?”

By the way, there is this Texas fan that works at a resturant I eat at every Monday. He knows I like Alabama and I know he likes Texas and we had some good fun kidding each other last year. Anyway, when I saw the guy today, he did not say anything about Bama. I said, “Aren’t you going to give me a hard time?” He said, “Man, I’ve got too much respect for your program to do that.”

Let me tell you, I started to like Texas today.

As much as I hate Auburn I hate Tenn. that much more.

Awesome...

Like I said my USC friends were very classy about our loss. The real fans don’t hate. They just brag once in a awhile and they follow the 48 hour loss rule. You don’t talk to a fan for 48 hours after a loss.

I have another patient who is also an LSU fan and he frequently tells me that we “stole” their coach. And every time he does, I tell him that we didn’t. He “chose us over them and the NFL”!

I also have 2 patients that are Florida fans, but I don’t expect I will hear any bad mouthing from them!

I've only gotten any flack from Auburn fans.

I’ve reminded them who’s coming to the Barn next week and suggested they concern themselves more with them than with how we’re doing. One laughed and agreed, reminding me why she’s still my friend despite her fandom.

I also had an old coworker who went to Ohio State this year on my facebook say “Number one! Go Bucks!” not 10 minutes after the final. It took all my strength not to go on the attack about strength of schedule. It felt better in the long run to just ignore it.

Unfortunately, I received texts, calls, and Facebook messages from Auburn fans I haven’t spoken with in years.

I’m like the OP, I never talk trash to Auburn fans (or any fans for that matter), but unlike you, I refuse to even talk football with them because what’s the point? Talking college football with an Auburn fan is like talking Darwinism with religious kooks. It just doesn’t mix and it’ll only end bloody. Auburn is the greatest football program in existence and Alabama is the worst. Sadly, that’s their mindset, despite they don’t allow facts to get in their way.

When football is brought up around an Auburn buddy and myself, I immediately change the subject. But the average Auburn fan hates Alabama ten times more than they love Auburn and that has a lot to do with the inferiority complex of which they possess.

I’d love for it to not be this way, but unfortunately, the circumstances will never change.

Congratulations to the 2009 SEC and BCS National Champions: The Alabama Crimson Tide! Roll Tide Roll!

Worked with an Auburn fan like that.

Don’t talk college football with him or, God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster forbid, mention evolution.

The Ga. Tech electrical engineers at that workplace liked to point out, anytime the AU engineers got too excited, that Ga. Tech had more SEC titles (as of 2001) than Auburn, and had been out of the SEC for decades… That always worked.

Bama got that arse beat. It happens. I was wearing a Bama cap yesterday and this young VT fan has a slight smile as he says, “Alabama lost.” I gave him the truth and explained I had been fortunate enough to go to the VT/BSU game and I felt bad that they lost. We had a good rapport after that. But believe me, if someone wants to get crappy about it, I have enough experience in verbal fencing to hold my own. It all gets down to how nasty one want to be. Of course, with Barners, you can hardly win because you can’t get through to them with the truth. See rhYno above. And they are really starting to get on my last nerve.

Alshon Jeffrey is a stud and played out of his mind, and SC played a great game as a whole. It was an almost impossible task for Bama to beat 3 ranked teams in a row (I seriously doubt more than 1 or 2 teams has done this in the last 25 years), so it wasn’t entirely unexpected. But the schedule the rest of the way is manageable and we have a shot to win out the rest of the way.

the haters went so far as to name their team “nick saban is a hack” so i lobbied for out team to be named “haters gonna hate” but the lame ass folks on my team went with something entirely unrelated and equally as stupid. aside from the 2 major haters and my father in law (a half hearted hater. doesn’t watch football, just a hater) i have yet to deal with any of them, because i had the “team builder” thing yesterday. I’ll probably encounter a half dozen or so more “what happened to bama? what about coach Saban? he going to leave for Dallas now?” before noon PST today. for the Pac 10 and Big 12 fans i’m going to simply respond with “Bama would beat the ever living piss out of nebraska/oklahoma/oregon/arizona” and then just ignore them. hopefully that works…

Living in WI,

the “haters” are more playful than anything. The only wholesale cockmonkeys I have come across have been Michigan fans. The Notre Dame fans are quietly loyal and the Ohio State fans seem to be in a holding pattern, or are just making sure their team is for real before they appear in numbers. Even the Badger fans are laissez faire on starting a debate.

Though I grew up in Brooklyn, NY (Red Hook no less! T’was meant to be!) and then Louisiana before moving here in 1991 (he worked for MetLife), my Dad always talked to me about Alabama. He’s a Notre Dame fan, but his respect for Bama has ALWAYS run deep. He never took me to an Irish game, but we went to 2 Bama games in Baton Rouge, and the ‘86 Kick Off Classic in New Jersey against OSU. I guess I’ve been around “haters” my whole life, so I’ve always been of this attitude: bring it.
