Importance of Saturday

I know most of us think this game is a sure win but I  am not so sure. I think this game may determine much about our season. First, I do not think it will be an easy win. Second, this is the first loss we have had to respond to in 2 + seasons. Third, I think the S.Carolina game proved that if our defense doesn't improve our offense is not good enough to outscore people. So if we do not see marked improvement in our defense (not perfection but noticable improvement), we may be in for a long season. If our defense doesn't improve we could be looking at an 8-4 season and if we improve we could (and should) go 11-1. Just my thoughts!

Importance of Saturday

I agree with you about the defensive improvements but, we still need to have a passing attack on offense as I and a few others thought would be the case this year. This Saturday however, Ole Miss will attempt to come out like SC and realize they aren’t. This game will serve notice that last week was a rare stumble and an attitude adjuster for us. This same instance happened to Florida in 2009 when Ole Miss punched them square in the chops. Expect to see Bama with attitude this weekend and focus from hell.

I really don't see us losing this one

I know Ole Miss has been looking better as the season has gone on, but there is just a huge difference between SC and Ole Miss. I know we shouldn’t take any games for granted, especially in the SEC, but I think we can still have the issues we’ve been having all year and beat them. The real question to me is just how definitively we can beat them. If it’s a close game, I think that’s a pretty bad sign. If we’re able to have a lot of garbage time because of a very comfortable lead, that certainly doesn’t take away from the problems the team has, but maybe it should put them in perspective. We really showed that we were NOT the #1 team in the country last week, but I think we can show that we still deserve to be up in the top 10.

Saturday fears:

Shane Falco: Quicksand.

Clifford Franklin: Aw, shit yeah. Quicksand’s a scary motha, man. I mean, first of all, it suck you right in, and even if you scream, you get all that muck in your mouth…

Shane Falco: You’re playing and you think everything is going fine. Then one thing goes wrong. And then another. And another. You try to fight back, but the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. Until you can’t move… you can’t breathe… because you’re in over your head. Like quicksand.

For all the talk about our focus and intensity, we need to come out loose and confident at the same time… Ole Miss won’t give us anything, we must take it away — RELEASE THE KRAKEN! ROLL TIDE ROLL!

I think you are right. This is not an automatic W by any means. A lot of folks on here gave me a hard time when I said our D was just not that good inspite of the scoring stats. Then they were shoked as they watched Sat.

I think to win this game we have to block and tackle a bit better than we have done this year. We probably are going to need to score 5 offensive TDs and we have not really doen that against an SEC team. Thankfully Ole Miss appears to be even weaker than us on D. Hopefully that holds true on Sat.

To be honest to get to 11-1 or even 10-2 the offense is going to need to step up. I’d say the defense needs to step up except I don’t know if we have the ability on defense to step up. That is hard for the average fan to fathom becasue Bama has been good on D the last two years and we have signed a ton of talented recruits. But the truth is some are hurt, some are young, and some may just not be what we thought they would be. I know this really ticks Saban and he will get it fixed, but it may be next year. Right now on defense everyone is waiting on a leader or two to emerge. but who can that be? I’m kinda hoping Barron will emerge because I just don’t Hightower is going to be the guy.

The last three years..

against Ole Miss, we only beat them by an average of 8.7 points., with the best game 22-3 coming last year.

Watching ESPN last night

Trevor Matich said the last team in the world he would want to be is Ole Miss playing Alabama this week. He said he wouldnt even want to be an NFL team playing Alabama this week. I try not to read too much into what these talking heads say. Well, I try not to read anything at all into it, but the man has a point. There one of two things that are going to happen following the loss, either we are going to fold for the rest of the season or we are going to respond and come out with fire and fury. Im going with the latter. I believe in this team. I, like Trevor Matich, would hate to be Ole Miss this Saturday night.

We will be fired up

and the crowd will be fired up. Hopefully on offense we can establish a painful and punishing run game.

However, we don’t have one person on front 7 on our D that looks good enough or quick enough to me to stop Masoli. All the fired up in the world is not going to make Hightower faster or Upshaw healthy. Our best chance on D is that Ole Miss miss fires and gives up a fumble or int. Otherwise we may have a shootout on our hands and not a beat down.

By the way I can promise you that based on the film they have watched the Ole Miss players are not exactly shaking in their boots. And, forget the NFL, I would not want to BE US playing Auburn or LSU right now.

Please, can the hype end.

Hey if you listened to OTS

last night his voice even sounded pessimistic. Sometimes the written word just does not express the true concern that I have.

And, I think it is critical we get ahead and make them think they are the team that lost to Jax St. not the team who has won the last two. They may now be the Black Bears, but they are still the pesky Rebels that we have really struggled to beat since 1992. Since 92 we have had no less than 11 close games with them including 2 losses. In 2008 at home we sort of lucked up when Sneed threw it away late.

And, we have not faced a qb like Masoli with this D.

just giving you a hard time

i’m having trouble coming to grips with just how beatable we have looked lately. so i’m only halfway joking when i say we need you to be even more pessimistic. it pleases the gods and they need pleasin. so by all means.

i’m gonna play ol miss on playstation and hope that masoli plays like he did vs jacksonville state to do my part.

It's not hype, it's what I believe.

Like I said, I don’t read anything into what the talking heads say. I didnt believe it when we were being tabbed the best defense in the country up until last Saturday afternoon. I could see as easily as anyone that Arkansas and Florida did as much, if not more to stop themselves as we did to stop them. We are not an elite team right now, and I realize that. However, I believe we are going to kick Ole Miss’ Ass.

You make a good point that we may not have the speed in the front 7 to stop Masoli, except for maybe Nico Johnson. Which, by the way, where the hell was he Saturday?

Good comments

There are many good points being made here. I am not down on our team and think we have the talent to run the table but we must improve drastically. We are going into game 7 and our defense is not dominating, in fact at times we are being dominated (opening drives of last 3 games). I think in the long run we may find FL was the worst of the three teams we played in this stretch. My concern is our defense stepping up and making plays, controlling the line of scrimmage and being consistent. None of which we have done lately. Someone this week said we have played 8 quarters on the road in the SEC and been outplayed in 7 of them, that is why I think Saturday is important. We must get this turned around now! We can but the time is now.

We should not lose this game ...

Sure we have our weaknesses right now but so does every team. Especially the teams all left on our schedule but let’s take it one game at a time.

This game is at home, we are 21 point favorites, the team should be fired up and wanting to play better, Ole Miss is not that good and their schedule has been very soft at best.

Some of you guys need to have a lot more confidence in this team and coaching staff.
This is a statement game for our players and we will win. Maybe not cover the spread but we will win.
